- dayquil, on 10/12/2007, -2/+36Digg doesn't need credibility. It doesn't report news. The users do. And the users vote on what's worth it. The reality is that you just don't like the userbase.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23Dude, you had ONE word to spell right. One.
- bubs, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21"where is the Microsoft section?"
I guess there should be a category to put all of the "Vista delayed" posts.. ;) - 16x9, on 10/12/2007, -7/+22> gronne wrote: "The best thing that will have happened to Apple in a long time will be Windows."
Don't be so hard on gronne. He is actually correct! Without the existence of Windows, Mac users wouldn't have as much to compare their platform choice against and as such know just how just how kludgy things could be. ;) - shinynew, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16you can always set it so when you tap the trackpad it rightclicks. or atleast my old powerbook could.
- the_snitch, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14Like i say lower down, download iScroll2. You CAN do this, and for free.
http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/17240 - elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Innovative? Now, forgive me if I'm wrong, but emulating right clicking ( poorly, I might add ) is NOT innovative.
- qingshuo, on 10/12/2007, -10/+17I got a better idea, put in a 2nd mouse button.
- locu543, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11I still just want two buttons, Thats the one thing that would probably keep me from buying a macbook(pro), Its just the same as using a mouse that doesn't have a scroll wheel and you always are looking for that damned wheel. Or driving nothing but a stick shift for years and then get back into an automatic and you stomp on the brake looking for the clutch. I scared the ***** out of a few people doing that once.....good times...good times
- mindstyle1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I have a MacBook Pro 15". It works fine for me and has since it came out of the box. If I click and hold for a second that does it, I can also click and touch the pad.
- philodox1, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8I recently switched from Windows to Macbook Pro. I've found that I've rarely had to right click in programs because they software UI is designed much better than most programs in windows.
It seems as if Apple software developers are much better about putting only the buttons and menu items that you need based upon what your current task is... context sensitive menus, if you will. Most Windows software tries to cram as much as possible into the right click context menus in order to give the user access to more options... if they had designed it right the first time, you wouldn't need to right click as much.
BTW I used to hate Macs for the 12 years that I used Windows, and I used to hate on the fact that they did not have 2 button mice. Then I switched, used OSX for about 2 days, then realized why I was wrong. - inkhead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You idiot, look a the bottom right corner next to the spacebar. is the "ENTER" KEY it's been on every mac portable since the damn of the first one. and NO i'm not talking about the return key. AND ENTER KEY it's right there. look closer...
- nxusername, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9I'm a pro Windows, pro Linux, and pro Mac user (although I have to say that Mac and Linux are more exciting to me) and what I want to know is where is the Microsoft section? It only seems fair.
- streak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Forget trackpads and hand acrobatics. Use a TrackPoint with 3 honest-to-goodness buttons at your thumbtip. (e.g., IBM ThinkPlus USB Travel keyboard)
- mateo60, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7I bought a Macbook yesterday. I love it. The right click on the trackpad thing is really handy.
BUT I didn't think it was worth posting it on damn digg. Very Lame. - streak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Actually, IBM/Lenovo's trackpoints are red nubs. If you've used other colors, they're not IBM/Lenovo and they're not the same high quality. Trackpoints are far faster and more efficient than trackpads, mice or trackballs. Only for *fancy* artwork do they suck, in which case a digitablet is probably called for. I expect the trouble is, trackpoints weren't invented at Apple and, after the G5 situation, Apple is not of a mind to pay IBM any more royalties than it has to. But fortunately as independent consumers, we can buy trackpoint keyboards on our own.
- errer, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10Wow, what amazing new technology! Way better than just putting a second button there!
...NOT - ttkgeek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6The 17" MacBook Pro has this.
- JonnyJ, on 10/12/2007, -7/+10wow I never new that was possible
although I've never owned a mac before the macbookpro i've done alot of work with mac desktops at school
this is why I love apple so much...every day I learn a new feature thats so simple, so basic, yet so innovative - riverside71, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7for the love of everything holy ... stop with this insane Apple flooding.
- Jeebugorn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4right-clicking huh? that's innovation for ya!
- ttkgeek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The 12" iBook G4 does not have the right-click feature but does have the scrolling trackpad.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I have hated every trackpad with two mouse buttons. Reason being, it's much easier to use a trackpad when you can move the pointer around by placing your pointing finger on the pad and your thumb over the large button and simply sliding your entire hand around. When you need to click, all you need to do is thumb the button that is always right under your thumb. Because of this, It's only with Apple laptops where I don't feel the need to always have an external mouse attached. If I need to right-click my left hand is always close enough to the ctrl key on the keyboard to simulate a right-click.
- Skettalee, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Hopefully they do an upgrade to the powerbooks to do that as well...
- diecastbeatdown, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7here's a little secret for all you windows users: most mac people use a two button mouse - ssshhhhh....
- Firemeboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Now see, this is why a Mac is so much better than a PC. When you want to right click on an Mac, you come together as a community, you discuss the various different tricks and tips that allow you to work around the fact that the mouse only has one button, and then you virtually hold hands and right click off into the sunset.
On a PC when you want to right click, you just... right click. - kimonostereo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Sorry folks... please use mirror?
http://www.duggmirror.com/apple/MacBook_Allows_Right-Click_Using_Trackpad/ - aeiou, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5@ Michalpin:
I think you misunderstand what is happening here. iBooks cannot do this (yes, I have one- the last generation bought new last september). iBooks will scroll with 2 fingers, which is great, but the macbook brings something new to the table in that it will right click with two fingers on the pad. I think this is a great idea. Much better than having a second mouse button on the pad like pc laptops- they tend to get in the way and are not very good. this meathod is great, imho. - Miniman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They wont, Apple is the New dell, Spread the word.
- aeiou, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I would agree with you for pc laptops. The pc laptop trackpads I have used are awefull. They feel bad, their buttons are easy to miss-click, and are just terrible to use in general. My ibook's apd, though, is really good. I'm not sure what it is, besides its button which doesn't lend itself to accidental pushes. I have been very happy with it. The little I have used trackpoints, though, they seem good, although they don't leave a good first impression- you have to get used to them to like them I think. I think that may be true for both sides, although I think that trackpads (esp. mac trackpads) are easier to get used to.
- stephenrs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1maybe i'm weird, but on every PC laptop i've had in the last 8 years, the *only* time i ever hit *any* mouse button is when i have to right click. i use one finger on the trackpad for everything - single tap to left click - double tap and drag for drag and drop. i'm really used to it and for me is the most efficient way to work - one finger - easy.
i'm about to buy a new laptop and am thinking about a dual boot MBP, but i neeeed right click functionality for my windows apps. so, i'm wondering if it's possible to configure the single button on the MBP for right click only? i'd keep doing what i've been doing for left click.
it actually seems a bit odd to me that more people don't configure their trackpads to deal with left clicks - it's much less movement than having to click a button, and no hand gymnastics to do drag and drop. talk about simple. - randyest, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2In other news Ford released a new car model with doors that open from the inside as well as out. Film at 11.
- JonGretar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Since you stole the mouse idea from mac mabey? Shortly before the window system was stolen.
- vagrantradio, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4OMG! right click! wow.
- deepsub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And this alone makes 'PC's' superior. Yeah right...
Too bad Windows sucks balls compared to OS X. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Cool...I didn't know you could report a story as 'OK, this is lame' before today...
- deepsub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can scroll both axes and right click on my PBG4 12"'s trackpad, in addition to programming a number of different gestures on each quadrant of the trackpad.
You can too!
http://www.ragingmenace.com/software/sidetrack/ - PathDaemon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Let's put it this way. For a while, I used a ten button mouse with my iMac. Then I got a PowerBook. I'm living quite well without the other nine.
- fliped, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Well the reason there are no right clicks on Macs is to make it easier for stupid people.. it may surprise you but some people wouldnt be able to know what you mean wen you say "rightclick" and "leftclick"... so with only on click it solves that issue
- streak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just as an aside, the one-button mouse was invented a few years before 1984, for the Apple Lisa, which went on the market in early 1983.
- ucg1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Have you actually used a Trackpoint on a Thinkpad? I use one now (doesn't even have a touchpad, only trackpoint) and it kicks the ***** out of my old laptop that only has a touchpad. It's way more accurate than any touchpad could ever be. What's more accurate, your index finger or you thumb? Or do you take your hand off the keyboard to use a touchpad? Touchpads also are prone to accidental touches. I see most people disable their touchpads because they suck so bad and just use a regular (usually wireless) mouse.
- Miniman, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6OMG RIGHTCLICK ON A MAC!
Its nothing new.
What the hell is up with all this Mac news that isnt even news?
It needs to stop, Digg has become insanly Biasd. - gbeirne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The little X in the corner of your browser window is far, far more hygienic.
- errer, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Party on, Garth!
- etherbob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@the_snitch: Mind you, iScroll 2 only works on older G4's that didn't already have the built in scrolling functionality. That said, it works awesome on those G4's, but as far as I know not on newer G4's and not on the Intel Mac laptops. Different hardware needs a different driver. See the iScroll 2 page for more info on what it does and doesn't support: http://www-users.kawo2.rwth-aachen.de/~razzfazz/iscroll2/
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3About. *****. Time.
- wernst, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1whoops. dupe. sorry.
- Miniman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Apple = The New dell.
- Killerah, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Oh, so now they're stealing right-clicking from PCs too? When will they ever stop?
- SmeRndmGy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32 mouse buttons??????? AMAZING!!!! It's like the 1980s are here today!!!!! Thank you apple, for finally making a half-assed attempt to duplicate what every other computer company has been doing for decades.
