- MrPhultz, on 10/28/2007, -10/+283This should not be in the Apple category.
- TGMD, on 10/28/2007, -66/+285Okay I own a Brown Zune, anyone who has actually seen and handled a Zune will fall in love with it.
The UI is beautiful, far better than the iPod.
The double shot effect makes it really cool and the skin doesn't scratch.
I own both an iPod G5 and a Zune V1, I prefer the Zune as it's much better.
Now digg me down fanboys - SonicRush, on 10/28/2007, -16/+162Why not? Nobody pays more attention to Zune news than Apple fanboys.
- Phyltre, on 10/15/2007, -10/+91I love how trees, chocolate, and all sorts of natural things are just fine in brown but when Microsoft makes a brown mp3 player, suddenly brown is a hideous color exclusive to excrement.
- PhoneJack, on 10/16/2007, -6/+83This is a PCworld article... just on MSN. Title is inaccurate
- MillionsLivio, on 10/14/2007, -14/+77I'll being honest, I actually like the Zune. I do not own one, but it seems to be going in the right direction. Everyone really seems to look at the Zune with a sense of bias before they even see it. The Mac fan boys saying "why do they even try?" really need to quiet down. Competition is a good thing; I'm really getting sick of all the immature whining.

- WiZZLa, on 10/14/2007, -0/+36This is actually a PC World article that MSN picked up, like they do with many other articles on different subjects; just go to MSN.com and see all the articles, most of which are linked to or taken from other blogs or websites.

- daok, on 10/28/2007, -3/+27In the same top 10 article , we have a Ugly MAC too... Apple do some ugly stuff too........ http://tech.msn.com/products/slideshow.aspx?cp-doc ...
- pak314, on 10/15/2007, -4/+26Maybe whoever stole it needed a case for their ipod.
- gamche, on 10/14/2007, -3/+25Good chance if it wasn't in the Apple category it would have been dugg far fewer times.
- djh816, on 10/14/2007, -2/+23Here's the link: http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,137988-page,10-c ...
MSN just posted the article on there site. It's not their opinion. - hsoj, on 10/28/2007, -5/+22Also, if Apple came out with "iPod Chocolate" or an "Expresso Brown iPod Nano," everyone would talk about how cool and retro they looked and the things would sell like.. well, like chocolate or expresso shots.
- ThinkFr33ly, on 10/14/2007, -5/+21I've played extensively with one of my friend's Zune's, and while it's bulkier and less elegant (externally) than the iPods, the UI is far better imo. But I still can't pull the trigger as far as buying one.
Zune 2 on the other hand looks like what I want. If they added a wireless all-you-can-eat subscription based music feature, it would be a no brainer.
Honestly, that's the real reason why I don't own an iPod. I don't want to pay $.99 a song. I want to pay $15/month and have all the music I want. The Marketplace offers a Zune-Pass that does just that. I can access the content on up to 5 PCs.
So that means I have unlimited music on my Zune, on my laptop at home, on my desktop at home, and on my work machine... and I still can access it at a buddies house if I want to. Even better, I can "deauthorize" computers at any time... so if I get a new lappy, no problem. The restriction only applies to "active" licenses... and it doesn't seem to affect simultaneous streams, so I can play music on several computers at once if I want.
Seems like a pretty damn awesome deal for $15/month.
If Apple offered that, I consider getting an iPod. Until then, it's gotta be a Zune or a Sansa or whatever. - madhouseradio, on 10/28/2007, -5/+20I'm so high...I wasted 3 angry minutes trying to click "next" on the image.
- Shpigford, on 09/02/2009, -51/+66We're not talking about a UI here...we're talking about the fact that, on the surface, the Zune looks like a crap-cake.
- seventoes, on 10/15/2007, -0/+15Different capitalization in each post.. Its called Edit.
- wush, on 10/14/2007, -5/+20ololol, a chocolate bar is brown. like poop!!!
- GawtMilk, on 10/28/2007, -4/+18The first thing I do when I want to know the time is grab my iPod.
- wageslaven, on 10/14/2007, -3/+16I dont know about that. Zune has gotten some seriously positive press with the Zune 2 refresh (and backporting the firmware to Zune 1). I think people are going to compare the functionality of the two, and people who buy them for the ipod fashion are going to get called out on it. The Zune is frankly a superior product.
Further, Apple has taken some *bad* press by not providing credit of recompiling the purchased games. They also dropped compatibility to all existing 3rd party devices by changing their port and mandating a proprietary licensed hardware be incorporated into accessories (no doubt at the direction of the RIAA/MPAA (which Jobs sits on the board of the most zealous MPAA/RIAA firm; Disney Corporation))
I imagine that chipset is to extend the scope of the DRM protection.
Zune _does_ have the largest non-ipod marketshare in the HD-based DAP market. I suspect that Apple isnt taking this threat lightly. - romistrub, on 10/14/2007, -2/+14His whining isn't immature.
- RadiatedAnt, on 10/14/2007, -24/+36Leave it up to the Apple fan boys in their skirts screaming "omglolzwtfstupidZune"
- MrDo, on 10/14/2007, -2/+14nah, not really.
- Invalice, on 10/14/2007, -2/+14this article can only be an opinion.
- Luigi239, on 10/15/2007, -11/+23The original brown Zune did look horrible, but the black, and especially the white one are not bad looking at all. Good to see that Microsoft can poke fun at themselves.
- mehss, on 10/14/2007, -5/+16I own one, it certainly is not buggy, it works exactly like an Ipod, except with radio/pointless wireless.
- apologeticus, on 10/14/2007, -3/+14are we supposed to be impressed?
- inactive, on 10/28/2007, -3/+14mac takes it too

- Phyltre, on 10/14/2007, -5/+16iTunes can't even monitor folders properly, it's got a fair measure of suck as well.
- edicius, on 10/15/2007, -2/+12Yes it is. http://tech.msn.com/products/slideshow.aspx?cp-doc ...
Microsoft Windows 1.0
The first Macintosh operating system popularized the concept of graphical user interfaces when it was launched in 1984, and a year later Microsoft responded with the first version of Windows--and no GUI has been as blocky or garish since. To be fair, the first Windows wasn't so much an operating system as an add-on to MS-DOS, which meant living with design groaners like ALL-CAPITAL file names and the still-very-DOS-like graphics standard. Though more than a few people would contend that Microsoft has been playing catch-up with Apple's design sense ever since, the ugly duckling did eventually turn into a swan with Windows Vista. And, as we understand it, Windows has done kind of okay in the marketplace. - Konstantino, on 10/14/2007, -6/+16No, it's not.
- catfud, on 10/14/2007, -4/+13but true
- TheWorm, on 10/14/2007, -0/+9I have never actually seen anyone using a zune in real life. Not saying that the Zune is bad, but where are these people who own them?
- saifatlast, on 10/14/2007, -0/+9I like a good your mom comment, but in order to be effective, it needs to be carefully and artfully constructed. It's best if it's unexpected and unnecessary, leaving the insultee shocked and offended. I'm sorry, but your your mom comment just didn't meet the standard of excellence required.
- Cloudime, on 10/14/2007, -4/+12I own a brown Zune and I love it... It doesn't look or feel 'ugly' to me..
Anyone agree? It seems all the commenters on here(which I'll just write off as Apple fanboys 'cause I can) seem to agree with the story.. - pyrates, on 10/15/2007, -3/+11Exactly. Anything that pokes fun at Microsoft for something that competes with Apple will get lots of diggs from the Apple Fan Boys.
- Maltby, on 10/14/2007, -9/+17blog spam
- pyrates, on 10/14/2007, -1/+9I agree. If the surface is very hard to scratch, then I'll take it as slightly less pretty. The problem with Apple is that anything they make, they make asthetics more important then practicality.
- modifiedbears, on 10/14/2007, -2/+9Of course people still won't mark it inaccurate though because they get to make a Zune poo poo joke and giggle at themselves.
- inactive, on 10/15/2007, -5/+12espresso
- romistrub, on 10/14/2007, -1/+8*That's why I dugg this article... Apple fanboys surely love giving the Zune a beating.
/English teacher - hsoj, on 10/14/2007, -13/+20Am I the only one who likes the brown zune? I love mine.. Why would I want to have it white or black like everyone else's mp3 player? If you've never seen one in person, they just look sexy.
- inactive, on 10/14/2007, -3/+10The New Zunes Looks Pretty Hot.
- kman316, on 10/14/2007, -5/+12I've owned several players in the past and to be honest, my Zune is the one that sticks with me. It's not the best and there are some nuances, but the same can be said about the iPod, ZEN, or any other mp3 player.
It's funny how people judge a product based on the company only and not he company merits. The Zune is not as sleek or elegant as an iPod, but provides the robust functionality that I need - I stress the I.
To each their own, that's the value of choice in our markets. Brown is not the most appealing to me, but there are some that absolutely love the color, great!
I agree with MillionsLivio, competition fosters more choices. The hard part is freeing peoples minds from company stereotypes and judging a product on it's merits, at least that's what some people try to do... -
