  • jtcalhoun, on 12/29/2007, -3/+30I agree. Here in 2008, MMS is a redundant and aging technology. All of its functionality can be accomplished by email. If anything, we should be pushing for the further adoption of email across mobile devices.

    If all phones had the capability to send and receive email, cellular subscribers would no longer be required to pay for separate services to send MMS to phones and email to computers (and other devices).

    Frankly, SMS could also be eliminated in favor of threaded email conversations, but consumers apparently enjoy paying for three services when a simple data plan (or even free wifi) should be able to do the same thing.

  • Dtopler, on 12/29/2007, -1/+22It's about time we can send text messages to multiple contacts. Now we need some form of copy/paste, or the ability to resend/forward a text message, and I'd be happy in the SMS department.
    I wonder how well the cell phone triangulation works for GPS use. I know someone put together a 3rd-party iPhone hack that used it, but I never tried it out. Anyone know how accurate it is, and if it's a suitable GPS-substitute?

  • lookoutforchris, on 12/29/2007, -0/+16One of the simple things I want is a damn to do list. In iCal you can add to do items, why the hell can' t those be synced to the iPhone calendar and then vibrate/alarm when I'm supposed to have done something? Still the new firmware looks good.

I'd much rather send an email with pic attachment (that would happen in exactly the same way as sending the pic via MMS) to phonenumber@vtext.com or whatever it is for the carrier and not waste fifty cents a message. If it were smart enough to do this automatically by using your contact's phone number and doing some sort of carrier lookup, so much the better, but I quite like not having to pay some insane rate to send 100k or so of data.

    it's the only thing phones like the sidekick have one up on the iphone..(aim support)
    with the addition of ichat and mms though.. the iphone can't be touched.

  • Firehed, on 12/29/2007, -0/+6That's awful. When I was playing around with Navizon on my iPhone, it would be accurate to at least what building I was in. Certainly not to the foot like a proper GPS, but at least close enough that I could easily figure out where I was on the map or find a street to reference. Well, at least in areas with decent coverage. At my house, it couldn't find me at all.

    Of course, Navizon does use both WiFi APs and cell towers; given the uniqueness of the APs and their range, you can really hone in.

    Cell triangulation isn't very accurate.
  • diggumjonez, on 12/29/2007, -1/+6Having worked in software development for mature and brand new products, there is no way to get every feature every person wants into a first release. People are always "amazed" that their pet feature was left out when, generally, the actual demand for that feature is fairly low.

    Was "drag & drop" icons on the home screen that amazing a feature to leave out when, at launch, there were only a few icons to begin with? were bookmarks littering your home screen that big a deal?
