- TenebrousX, on 10/12/2007, -3/+50Linux Torvalds reads raw binary and compiles it in his head in real time
- TruthElixirX, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29Funny. Linus didn't go to MIT. :)
- SamsLembas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25"brand new refurbished battery"
- justinjacobs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25My guess is Linux. But what do I know?
- swaggadocio, on 08/20/2008, -2/+23Ermm… No they are not. They are on the case under clear plastic.
- monkeymad2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+18Oooo, so that's what a squashed e-penis looks like...
- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -6/+24"800Ghz processor"
Gee, Apple ditched IBM over an 800 GHz processor? - Aldrenean, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Yep. Linus, being a real man, uses straight linux. Just the kernel. Nothing else. Distros are for pussies. Hell, he doesn't even use a shell. Bash? What bash?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14OOO 800Ghz processor. Nice!
- rickbauls, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13My Dad was actually pretty good friends with Linus, they went to University of Helsinki together. Back in the day, they used to laugh about what if we called it Unus instead of Linux. I sure do miss Dad since he passed away. Just thought I'd relate.
- drlha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Linus is unimpressed by almost everything, its in his nature.
- masterc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12I think your dad lied to you...
- dragazis, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11I meant computer wise. And wtf, why am I being dugg down?
- SamsLembas, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10I really hope that was a joke.... But I fear it was not.
- akira117, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"Torvalds attended the University of Helsinki from 1988 to 1996, graduating with a master's degree in computer science."
From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linus_Torvalds - astrosmash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4He uses Apple hardware because he prefers the PPC architecture, so apparently he's not too happy with Apple's switch to Intel
http://www.osnews.com/story.php?news_id=16132
Apparently he's not too impressed with EFI either (Intel's BIOS replacement that Apple and IA-64 PCs use)

- TheG2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I gotta agree...Linux really has turned into a religion, complete with Zealots.
I'm considering starting the Church of MSPAINT.exe - wounded625, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3quote from the auction:
"Autographs are covered in a clear adhesive with some minor peeling at the corners of a couple of the names.
Autographs are signed directly on to the case of the laptop with a black marker. The reflection in the photographs is the clear adhesive covering the signatures reflecting the light back." - coldphoenix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Its funny how you never state how exactly you know this "fact".
- coldphoenix, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6It looks very sloppily signed, like what's with the rectangles around each signature. But no matter who the hell signed it, I wouldn't want their ugly handwriting all over my macbook.
- astrosmash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I very much prefer Gnome over KDE, too (because KDE just makes my blood boil) and I very much appreciate the new direction they took starting with Gnome 2.0 to focus on sophistication and usability, back in 2001 or whenever it was.
But Linus requested a feature that was completely reasonable (configuring mouse buttons) and for the Gnome guys to use usability as an argument against that feature is just naive and wrong, especially considering that both Microsoft and Apple have offered the same feature for quite some time.
The goal of the Gnome project is to create a sophisticated user interface. I don't think their intent is wrong, but it's really a question of whether they have the technical ability to achieve their goal, and, 5 years in to Gnome 2, I'm not so sure they've demonstrated that they have the ability. Clearly they did not demonstrate adequate ability during this dispute with Linus. - malliemcg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is the real deal. I was there when that laptop was won. Was a fund raising raffle $1au/entry. Kinda disappointing to see it up for auction tbh. Although I do kinda remember it being re-auctioned at the dinner for charity. I must admit that night is now kinda hazy :D
M - astrosmash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What's this? Ballmer used to be relevant at some point?
- Gatesophile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2actually, it just shows that different people have different preferences. I prefer GNOME, but KDE is fine too. I wont go calling people names, but then again I'm not Linus, and I wouldn't have the right to. :P
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1someones greatly over estimating the value of peoples signatures
- Cherubim, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Umm, why is this news ? Torvalds is full of it. Calling the Gnome team "interface nazis" just shows how out of touch with reality this self-appointed "pope of linux" is.
- BigglesPiP, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Spotted that, that thing must really fly!
Although IBM do hold the record right now, at slightly over 100Ghz. Silicone Germanium FTW! - Gatesophile, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@theg2
I'll join. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Lmao, I dont own a mac you *****.
- instinct71, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3and you are his personal secretary?
- TheElectricMonk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i first read that as "lord torvalds" and thought "geez, another classical metal band"
- astrosmash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why else would he buy an Intel Mac mini?
http://www.osnews.com/story.php?news_id=16132 - CBanga, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Me too Theg2!
Can I be an admiral? - TheYellowMole, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hear he sleeps with nunchucks.
- astrosmash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You are *so* blocked.
- Fluidity, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Marked as lame because the excitement in the "hope it's linux" comment at the end. Seriously. Do you really care? If it isn't already you can install it yourself if you're crazy enough to want to bid to win it.
- karamba_kid, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4@coldphoenix
Yeah he said he knows first hand which means inkhead is Linux Torvalds! - fiendskull9, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3ROFL is all i have to say

- ericdano, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Is it me, or would getting a Linus autographed laptop be like getting a Steve Ballmer autographed laptop? Both really aren't relevant anymore.
- ASkillz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Yes, it's autographed. But will it blend?
- jbham184, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0"Hope its running Linux"
it says its got mac os x 10.4 you retards - Gatesophile, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1@truthelixirx
i meant to digg you up, sorry. damn small up and down buttons... - wdfmor, on 10/12/2007, -10/+7"An apple a day keeps bill gates away" John "maddog" Hall.
Quote of the day. - astrosmash, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Or, more likely, it shows just how out of touch the Gnome guys are with real Linux users.
- Mclaren1444, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1I seriously would never spend a dime on that crap. In fact to me that decreases the value of the beautiful powerbook. I just got a macbook pro. I don't even let relatives touch the keyboard and I definitely wouldn't want some people signing my $3,000 laptop.
- inkhead, on 10/12/2007, -7/+3Just for the record if your curious what Linus Torvalds 'actually' uses day to day, it's a Mac, and Mac OS X. Even though he never will admit in public to using it as his main OS, it is what he uses more so than Linux (And I know you're thinking this is a Mac fanboy talking) but this is somebody who actually knows first hand. I was pretty shocked.
- sicapitan, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1fair call, not everyone are nerds, even though nerds like to think go
- BobaFettTDG, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Well, the sigs aren't on paper. But they ARE on duct tape...
