- deadbaby, on 10/28/2007, -8/+68It's going to require a firmware update to the phone which is obviously not out yet. They probably just don't want to advertise a feature that won't be available on day one.
- eridius, on 10/29/2007, -5/+28This isn't backpedaling. The original copy said you could access your notes on the iPhone. That's completely true - any notes you have associated with an IMAP account can be accessed via MobileMail on the iPhone. The problem here is people misread that to mean they would sync with the iPhone Notes application, which isn't true. Apple's simply removing misleading copy.
- mavantix, on 10/27/2007, -3/+19The next iPhone firmware update is probably just delayed. I expect big things by late February, hopefully they will address more than just the 3rd party apps with updates between now and then. Multiple SMS recipients is high on my wish list too.
- Gabberwok, on 10/27/2007, -4/+13They've been scrambling for the past year to get first the iPhone and now Leopard out on time. I doubt it was high on their list of priorities.
- inactive, on 10/26/2007, -3/+11That's pretty much it, deadbaby. It really astounds me how many people just love to complain--and will find any reason, no matter how trivial or stupid to do so.
Besides, if you're going to run out and plunk down cash for leopard tonight at 6pm and then run home as fast as you can and install it (if you can resist bringing your macbook with you and doing it on the sidewalk outside the store, then you are what they call an "early adopter", and will have more than sufficient chance to complain about slightly more pertinent (but still just as dumb) things like how much hard drive space Time Machine is going to need to keep your porn safe. - Kelmon, on 10/26/2007, -2/+8I think we can all be certain that this is coming and that a delay in the software prevents this from being available on Day #1, for whatever reason. The Air Disk/Time Machine issue is much more annoying but at the present time I can understand why it isn't being allowed since Air Disk remains highly unreliable except for short backups. This is annoying because I bought a new Airport Extreme and an Iomega MiniMax specifically for this purpose, although the longer wireless range is damned useful too in an apartment full of concrete floors.
- KSUdesigner, on 10/26/2007, -3/+9Probably true, but you'd think that they'd make a firmware update available the day they release Leopard. It's not like they just thought up the feature yesterday, they've had plenty of time to prepare a firmware update as well.
- moisie, on 10/26/2007, -0/+6I think they meant that Time Machine on an AirDisk was cut, not the individual features themselves.
- mexretroshore, on 10/26/2007, -1/+6This is jumping the gun - can't we wait till tonight and someone can tell us what they find?
- enicholas, on 10/30/2007, -3/+7Yes, because the (almost certainly temporary) inability to sync notes with a phone is exactly the same as Vista losing its much-hyped next-generation object-oriented filesystem.
- eternal, on 10/27/2007, -0/+4Hey, if this is the only thing I don't have live with on my new OS then thats fine. Heck, remember WinFS? That was a whole new file system that Windows promised and never delivered and here we are complaining about syncing notes to your iPhone.
- bigsteve, on 10/26/2007, -2/+6Dear deadbaby,
Knock off the rational thought. This is digg.
Signed,
Steve - Avian00, on 10/26/2007, -3/+6Even if that's true, it doesn't change the fact that Apple's "silent treatment" behavior is unacceptable. It's irresponsible to advertise features and then remove them without even a hint of a reasonable explanation. They can't just erase something and pretend they never said it. They could at least say something to the affect, "this feature has been postponed until it is ready."

- NJank, on 10/26/2007, -3/+5it's a first-post. Applicability need not apply.
- natedouglas, on 10/26/2007, -0/+2Yep, same here. There's a workaround, but really I just want Apple to Fix the ***** AirDisk right now.
- HoldenDapen0r, on 10/26/2007, -0/+2It was just a trim really.
- mingistech, on 10/26/2007, -0/+2Um no... Neither the iPhone OS or Leopard is opensource. Way to pull some BS outta ur ass.
- jakem1, on 10/30/2007, -1/+3How hard is it to implement note syncing? Certainly not as hard as creating a new file system.
And while we're at it, what happened to the new file system that Apple was talking up for Leopard a year ago. They didn't even have to create it and they still ended up stripping it from the final product. - thejokell, on 10/26/2007, -0/+2Official release is today (10/26) at 6:00 EDT.
- daeggman, on 10/26/2007, -1/+3He wasn't quoting Judge Dredd. He was quoting the "Chef Aid" episode of South Park. The record executive who sued Chef would always say that after he would be told something was against the law. And then he'd squirt hair gel on his hair.
Though really, the quote doesn't apply here at all. - mingistech, on 10/26/2007, -0/+1This was never listed as a Leopard feature so... i'm not sure how this is considered Leopard Backpedaling.
Now that Mail.app in Leopard has a notes option i'm sure we'll see an iPhone update that supports syncing. I'm expecting an iTunes/iPhone update to add these features. - pixelmatrix, on 10/26/2007, -0/+1I'm glad they pulled it because it obviously wasn't ready yet. They needed to update the iPhone to allow such functionality. Let's give them time huh?
- inactive, on 10/26/2007, -1/+2No note syncing? That's it, where's my razor blade?
- deadbaby, on 10/26/2007, -0/+1What are you talking about? Apple has sold over a million iPhones already. They're generating something like $10M _a month_ from AT&T profit sharing alone. That's $120M a year (and going up for every phone sold) Customer satisfaction surveys show the iPhone is leaps and bounds ahead of other phones with consumers. They announced a third party SDK as well. The iPhone has been a huge success for Apple.
- insomniac8400, on 10/26/2007, -0/+1Did you miss everything about bricked phones?
- Gabberwok, on 10/26/2007, -0/+1They really need to fix that TIFF exploit. It's just a matter of time before someone uses it to put a virus on the phone. I know people like being able to put their own programs on it, but I don't want to worry that if I navigate to the wrong website someone can hijack my phone.
- tucsonwc, on 10/26/2007, -0/+1This isn't crossfire. Or a political ad. Enough with the "backpedaling" BS. The feature will require an update to the iPhone software.
Don't get your panties all twisted up.
Buried as lame. - cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -0/+1Yeah that, or they just want to give you a new reason to brick your iPhone and upgrade. You know, leave small features for new firmware to ensure everyone upgrades, and re-locks their iPhone..
- deadbaby, on 10/26/2007, -2/+3I think it's very unlikely such a simple feature would be stripped. The support is already built into Mail. It would only take a developer a few hours to write and test the sync code. It's not like we're talking about some hugely complex thing like WinFS here. Leopard launches today... let's give them 48 hours to see what happens re: firmware update for the iPhone.
- antitab, on 10/27/2007, -0/+1Unlike WinFS, ZFS is actually coming. Read is in the final, and beta write is already out.
- briguymaine, on 10/26/2007, -1/+2Maybe they want to give people a chance to unbrick their iphones from the last update before they do it again.
- cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -1/+1Why isn't Leopard out? Says it is at www.apple.com.au
- diggSJaustin, on 10/26/2007, -4/+4I haven't been this crushed since Microsoft cut WinFS from Longhorn...
- dogearedboy, on 10/26/2007, -2/+2Exactly! Leopard isn't even officially out yet. Give the boys in Cupertino a chance!

MIRROR: http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/3303/imageuploadi ... - briguymaine, on 10/26/2007, -2/+2ok that makes more sense!
- captaincoconut, on 10/26/2007, -1/+1This shouldn't be a problem since someone will probably implement it without too much trouble. One great thing about the iPhone and Leopard is that the source code is available for anyone to modify.
- blkpoetx, on 10/26/2007, -0/+0this feature only works if you have push email ... .mac .. it adds note to the inbox of on your computer. so if yo have push email it will show up in your email on your phone. its easier to make feature less known.. than to tell customer you need push email to use it i suppose
- inactive, on 10/26/2007, -0/+0Blah blah blah blah blah. I love my iPhone. Best phone I have ever owned aside from the Nokia 8290.
- InsaneMachine, on 10/28/2007, -6/+5I'm so hardcore I don't run ANY software on my hardware! Not even a BIOS.
- Kelmon, on 10/26/2007, -2/+1At this moment it is not clear that there is a problem except with the Air Disk for Time Machine. Clearly both the OS and iPhone needs to support this feature at the same time and it seems most likely that the firmware update to the iPhone has not been released yet. In this respect I don't believe that this is a "problem" - for all we know the update might be released tonight. For the Air Disk, however, someone needs a good arse kicking and no mistake.
- pyrates, on 10/29/2007, -2/+1Yay, another firmware update that I will have to wait to apply so that it doesn't brick my iPhone.
- NeoRicen, on 10/26/2007, -6/+4Sure it's not supposed to come in an iPhone update?
- Drexus, on 10/26/2007, -5/+3I don't know why people worry so much about such a noted function... come on, we're talking software here.
- jakem1, on 10/27/2007, -2/+0Remember ZFS? Remember Time Machine working across wireless networks?
- t5un4m1, on 10/27/2007, -4/+2Firmware update this, firmware update that...give me a break! They released a half a$$ product, now I have to wait for firmware updates for basic crap? Aaaah yeess...the all-wise Apple! Apple knows best what features you should or shouldn't have on your expensive iPhone. Custom ring tones you say? Ha! OBEX over bluetooth? Ha! Oh you want to take a video clip?! Ha ha! What's that? Send or recieve an MMS?! Ha ha ha! Shall I go on? Is anyone surprised that Apple isn't delivering on iPhone promises? The best cell phone platform you say? A $50 Razr POS can do all of the aforementioned tasks. For everyone's that ever complained about cell phones being crippled from doing this or that (like dial-up over bluetooth) this device is the ultimate cripple!
- natedouglas, on 10/26/2007, -4/+1I stopped reading at "half a$$." Are you twelve? Say ASS. Or ***** ***** PISS ***** ***** *****.
- Jeffler, on 10/26/2007, -5/+2Buried for not being about the iPh....damnit.
- tucsonalama, on 10/26/2007, -4/+0Just got done reading and commenting on the "Hilarious Leapord Easter Egg" 2k+ diggs... I'll leave it at that.
