- HalBSure, on 10/12/2007, -3/+74Wait a sec. So Leopard is going to be released in the time frame Apple announced nearly a year ago? Around the time that anyone with half a brain believed it was going to be released? Unpossible!
- rattboi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+25"meh, iLife shmyLife. Who cares about that bundle..."
Any non-pro with a life. My girlfriend uses her digital camera all the time, so she uses iPhoto. Sure, there's Aperture, but she doesn't need that. She prefers the simplicity of iPhoto. My other friend makes little movies, and uses iMovie and Garageband for them. He could be using FCP, but he's not shelling out the $1000 when the iLife tools come with the computer. - Boondoggle, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25 by kibibytebrain 5 minutes ago
+ 1 digg
"Well, first of all its late."
-------------------------------------------------
Well, you're just wrong. The first day of spring is March 21. The last day of spring is on or about June 20 or 21. I'd like to see a reference where Apple claimed it would be released before "Spring 2007". - dkellogg, on 10/12/2007, -6/+26I can't speak to the current leopard builds do to ADC rules, but this sounds about right to me. It would be hard for Apple not to equal or surpass Vista. I've been using Vista since before it went gold for Enterprise, I still think MS should have waited a little longer to release it. It gets in your face way too much (Mac add hit it on the nose), and where as it's a big step forward for MS, I liked it better the first time when it was called OSX, when it did not crash, and it wasn't slow :)
- chewy5000, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Well it is 'Late January' They're delivering what they said, when they said.
- fluidfoundation, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Christ, who pissed in your cornflakes?
- Boondoggle, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14For some of us, part of the pleasure in technology is getting to use and learn about new products. It has very little to do with what the current products may lack.
- thekronz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8About June is when they said it would be released... a long time ago... when they gave the sneak peak. Digg is where they changed the dates continuously.
- pathetik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I predict that I will FART today
THIS FROM A RELIABLE SOURCE !!! - nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7@audiowizard (#5964025) said: "meh, iLife shmyLife. Who cares about that bundle..."
The millions of people who use digital cameras, camcorders, and music players.
Podcasters.
There are others... - ThankTheCheese, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8"...there is a reasonable chance that Apple will drop its yearly naming convention for the software suites entirely, sources report, suggesting "'07" could be replaced with "Leopard Edition"..."
it was at that point I threw up a little in my mouth and vowed never to read another BS Think Secret article. - thekronz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7http://developer.apple.com/wwdc/
Why the leopard skin on the main logo? Weird, it's like their gonna talk about a shipping date or some crazy ***** like that. - SteveHiggs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Sure we're all excited, but honestly we all knew it would be June... and this digg post isn't exactly a guess, or insider information or anything either... Go look at the WWDC web site, it is covered in leopard skin graphics. I'm excited to watch the keynote, but my only issue is having to wait almost 3 months before I buy my new Mac... :S
- udahlen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6It has been said publicly by Jobs that Leopard will include everything (Front Row, iLife etc), so that comes as no surprise. The reason iLife is "delayed" is probably to take advantage of Core Animation and other innovations in Leopard.
- cquinnd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Well, there is also a remote possibility that a new (or upgraded) Mac model might be introduced at the same time.
If he is already willing to wait, it might be beneficial to see what else comes on the heels of the expected announcement. In case there are other deals that can be taken advantage of. - theuserdylan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I would also note that Leopard is not all you should be thinking about when considering what timeframe to buy a Macbook. There should also be a hardware upgrade this spring. While you never know with Apple, Intel is due to launch a new mobile platform called Santa Rosa this April. Basically it's a faster CPU, faster bus, nand memory, but probably the biggest improvement is the new graphics card since the GMA950 is really dated. Of course you never know when Apple is going to implement this new chipset, but my guess is they'll have a new Macbook ready to roll out for Leopard and the school buying season. Speaking of school, if you're a student Apple usually runs a special where you get a free iPod nano with purchase of a mac around the start of June. My advice is to wait. I mean it's only two months and you'll be much better software and likely better hardware and if you're a student an iPod also.
- Koski, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Can't wait for a better Safari!
- MrMighty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Hmmm... you're right! And there's more: they even have hands-on Leopard sessions during the WWDC! OMG! I think we're on to something here... ;-)
- danielwsmithee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Apple does this all the time. They say it will ship in February and they plan February 28th. They say spring it ships the last day of spring. I'm use to it by now.
- Pfhreak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think Jobs meant "Spring [Quarter] 2007", which means anytime up to June 30th. The Worldwide Developers Conference is June 11--15, so I wouldn't be surprised to see a demonstration of the finalized version as part of the keynote, with Leopard hitting shelves that week.
- nick2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I can't wait for this. I am holding off on buying my MacBook and possibly an iMac until Leopard is released. Also, you never know if they come out with new Macs then, too!
- uptown, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I think you're talking out of your ass...
- superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3All of this is pretty obvious stuff. Who did not think the iPhone would leverage some unique aspect of Leopard as well? And iLife/iWork are due for updates, again it only makes sense to release them with Leopard to take advantage of new features.
- m4v1s, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3If you're a student, check out the ADC Student Membership. Its 99 bucks but you get a one time developer hardware discount, which is better than the education discount, plus a hard copy of OS X, Xcode tools and a year of ADC DVDs. Defiantly what I'm doing when leopard is released.
- adc89, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I thought this was common knowledge since the dates of WWDC were released.
- Gameflyer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What I really want to know is, when is the next-gen MBP coming?
- Rice, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Depends... do you need a computer right now? If so, buy a macbook. If you can afford to wait at all, I would.
(Very happy C2D MacBook Pro owner.) - bluechips23, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I am waiting for Apple to release its new model and also the new OS. The last time I bought an iMac was just 2 months before they released the new iMac models with intel processors. So I know what it feels like to buy a new product which becomes obsolete in matter of just weeks. But then again, almost 2 years back, I wasn't on Digg.
- nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It looks really cool. With the JS debugger and other Safari add-ons it might be able to steal me from Firefox again. I used Safari on my G4 mini because Firefox was dog slow on it, but now I'm back to Fx. They're both great browsers, but extensions are awesome.
- foolonthehill, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I want a MacBook Pro but I'm trying to buy one after Leopard, the new iLife suite and the Santa Rosa platform come out, but before I leave uni (on the 30th of June) and lose my Higher Education discount. It's going to be close...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -10/+11What's the hurry? Is your OS X Tiger not functioning well enough?
- Deegraww, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2So is it worth it to get a Macbook now and just update the software when it comes out or wait till the software is release to pick up a Macbook?
- bushmonkey01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i was gonna get a mac computer this month but i think im definately going to wait until leopard is released :D only 2 months really :)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Aside from this, i would wait a few months before buying any apple computer , so that way you can get leopard and not be stuck with tiger. (like me i always buy an apple product only for them to upgrade/change something within a month) *powerpc!*
- danielwsmithee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I don't think they will change the name. They will just bundle the new version with Leopard. Which judging from how Vista includes a lot of this stuff now (photos, Movies etc) it is probably a good idea. I know I won't complain. Next release they will go back to iLife '08 or '09.
- zioxide, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2We've known that it was going to be released at WWDC since they announced the dates of WWDC. All of the articles that have been saying otherwise were just for impatient fanboys.
- MrMighty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"THIS FROM A RELIABLE SOURCE !!!"
Your girlfriend? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1
hahahaha Windows worshipers; too late to start your photocopiers
NAB shall be fun - dasluvaluva, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Same here. Just got out of college, so I don't get that sexy discount anymore. And it seems that we're ripe for some upgraded hardware, so I'm hoping for a revised Macbook Pro along w/ Leopard.
- kungming2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Steve Jobs didn't say iLife as part of the "Complete Package." Specifically, he meant Photo Booth, Boot Camp, and Front Row. However, it'd be nice to see iLife and maybe iWork included as well.
- hidesertmlb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Leopard by summer. Awesome!
- kungming2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The problem with ThinkSecret is, that their posts generally state what the Mac rumors community have been stating for the past few weeks. Either that, or they're dead wrong. For example, they predicted that there would be movie rentals and a new iPod at WWDC last year - definitely wrong. Look at their archives, and it's hard to find something they got right since the prediction of the Mac mini and the iPod shuffle. It's a good site, but it's not nearly as fresh or accurate.
- nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1hint: student #s are not verified.
- ideo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Quite strange Nothing particular, but still interesting for me.
- the6thReplicant, on 10/12/2007, -7/+6nice troll, but we're mostly waiting to see what's in, more than when it's going to be released, since that's what we do know (late spring = June 30th)
- etandrib, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Me too…
- SuperJimmyJimbo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1make sure to be curious and activate the reality distortion field
- Boondoggle, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5So you're going to wait 3 months to save $129?
That works out to 25 cents an hour. at 40/hours per week. My guess is you spend more on coffee. - SVPirate, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4Upon the release of OS X 10.2 (Jag-wire) Steve Jobs once commented that typically when Apple say 'late September' (as was the case for Jaguar) everyone assumed they meant 'September 32nd'. I thought that was quite witty, in a 'It's funny because it's true
... and I'm still sticking with somewhere around end of May. Spring may end in June technically but notionally it's March -> May. I'll admit I'm wrong on June 1st if it hasn't shipped by then, happily. - spargett, on 10/12/2007, -10/+7Right... just like March, no wait. April for sure wait... ummm how bout June?
