- Ireland, on 10/10/2007, -8/+123Why does every new product have to kill the last. So everyone on the planet buys only one brand phone? Give me a break. Whatever happened to good old competition.
- virtualball, on 10/10/2007, -3/+87How can this kill the iPhone? It still runs the Verizon OS....
- rrbaker, on 01/15/2009, -12/+75I personally left Verizon for AT&T -- didn't want to but the iPhone won out in the end. This... would not have changed my mind. It's about on par with their half-assed attempt to keep me as a customer by reminding me that "if you use lotion, the iPhone won't work as well." Seriously.
- noahhoward, on 10/10/2007, -9/+67What's this? No one bitching about how LG is locking Voyager customers into contracts with Verizon?
- CAB1989, on 10/10/2007, -13/+66I highly doubt that it will get anywhere close to killing the iphone. This is the next Zune.
- MrPhultz, on 10/10/2007, -15/+64After using the iPhone, I could never go back. The amount of features I actually use on a day to day basis on the iPhone increased drastically from before. I stopped having to go to my recent calls just to find phone numbers for christ's sake.
- pooper, on 10/10/2007, -4/+39iphone killer = sledge hammer
- radzack, on 12/02/2008, -13/+44This will kill the iPhone like the zune killed the iPod...
and like how Vista pwned OS X
They will sell 10's of 100's!! - ozid, on 10/10/2007, -3/+28I played with one of these today, actually. My friend is a rep for Verizon in the Inland Empire and he has been playing with one for a week now. It's actually a really great phone. The problem is people compare it to the iPhone in the first place. Thats when you will be disappointed. This is not an iPhone, nor is it an iPhone killer. It's not even a smartphone. It's a enV with a full touchscreen and an full HTML browser.
And a really comfortable qwerty keyboard.
That said, if you're going to compare it to the iPhone, you're not going to be happy. - virtualball, on 10/10/2007, -6/+30Yup, when mine broke, it felt weird not having mail and the internet at hand 24/7, I could never go back to a standard phone, especially one that uses Verizon's ***** OS....
- iofthestorm, on 10/10/2007, -10/+33Really? That's probably one of the things that turns a lot of people off from touchscreen-only phones.
- djpants428, on 10/10/2007, -4/+24Is it just me, or does every time they market something as a "___-Killer" it ends up not being the case?
- moocow1452, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20Does the warranty cover, "Being whisked off to the Delta Quadrant?"
- superbad, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16it places the lotion in the basket
- heifetz, on 10/10/2007, -5/+21I would love to see some competition, but from past experience, other products are really cheap imitations of apple products.
- Hoov, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15Unless the phone can be unlocked like my old E815, I'll pass. Verizon cripples their phones so bad it's not even funny.
- f4nt0m4s, on 10/10/2007, -2/+17it's still comparing apples to oranges (no pun intended)...the Voyager might be more ripe with typical Cell Phone features the iPhone left out, but the iPhone still has some kick ass features that I doubt this phone will be able to top
PS, "iPhone" and "iPhone killer" are buzzwords/phrases, 10 dollars says Verizon pulled that out of their ass to help get media attention. Oh noez they challenged teh iPhone, omgzorz - clclark33, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13Yeah, the Verizon OS... Verizon insists on having their interface installed on most of their "affordable" phones. This enables them to lock out anything that may cut into their bottom line. I currently have a Moto e815 with Verizon. Fortunately, when my phone's backlight died, they replaced it as a "one time courtesy" under warranty, however the replacement was locked down. I had hacked the other phone just so I could use features that Motorola advertised the phone to have but Verizon locked down (i.e. transfer of pictures, ringtones, etc from the phone to a computer and vice versa).
- fuzzmeister, on 10/10/2007, -9/+22You make an iPhone killer, and you call it..... "Voyager"?
- ShrimpCrackers, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15Plus the Verizon VX10000 (LG Voyager) has 3G (with capability for Rev A so you can get "3.5G"), GPS, a 2 megapixel camera, Streaming TV, a flip out keypad, speakerphone, and takes SD micro. Even though I own an iPhone and am happy with it, I have to admit the Voyager has a bunch going for it.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12you mean like the same collective, trendy brain of the people that bash iPhone users or Apple users in general?
- theghoul, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14FTA
"We think it'll be the best phone ... this year. It will kill the iPhone," Verizon Wireless Chief marketing officer Mike Lanman said in an interview.
This is a placeholder so we can laugh at this idiot later..
Why do they have to advertise a iXXXXX killer? Just make a better product dumbasses. - moocow1452, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13I would have dugg you up, but it wasn't that funny. Sorry.
- chyya, on 10/10/2007, -7/+19left verizon for at&t? wow thats the worst move you can make. if you thought verizon cst service was bad you havnt seen nothing yet. at&t is hands down the worst in customer service compared to any of the providers. even worse than cricket.
- ABombbmoBA, on 10/10/2007, -5/+16They aren't. That's the difference. New/Upgrading customers will actually get a subsidy/discount on Voyager for a 2 year contract. Those existing VZW customers who wish to buy the phone for full price can perform an ESN swap for free.... WITHOUT signing a new contract.
- Hamletlere, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10You know, there is more to a product than the feature list alone. It might be that the ease of use provided by the iPod is so valuable to people that it becomes a must-have feature in and of itself. It might also be size or weight, or other physical characteristics like color availability.
Not having a Zune, I couldn't say whether or not its ease-of-use was worse than, equal to, or better than the iPod's. But comparing feature lists alone is kind of like having blinders on. - kenvsryu, on 10/10/2007, -4/+14apple update = sledge hammer.
- dgh1973, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9cloning != killing
- Ireland, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10Yeah, they should say "____- competitor"
- miles01110, on 10/10/2007, -5/+14If you like LEDs, buy a Mooninite.
- iofthestorm, on 10/10/2007, -5/+14Well, I think Vista is still selling much much more than OS X in its little niche market, simply because of the sheer volume of PC sales compared to Mac sales. And I'm pretty sure Vista is selling as well as or better than XP did in the same period of its lifespan, which is actually quite an achievement considering how crappy Windows previous to XP was and how little of a stability/features difference Vista offers compared to XP from 98/2k/Me.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -15/+24this phone has mechanical buttons...hence not an iPhone killer
- beatmix01, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Give me any phone from Verizon that does not have VZW's crippled OS. VZW's OS is one of the worst things they have ever done. Stop thinking all your users are morons. Although being in IT I do see where they are coming from. (which is what kills me the most)
- bluechips23, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9You know sir, you wrote what was in my mind. When I first read this title and saw the picture, I was wondering why the hell companies are making a dozen iPhone look-alike cell phones and calling them "iPhone Killer", instead of making a cell phone that actually looks different and better than iPhone with even more features? I mean, every dick and harry can do copy and paste.. what about innovation and thinking out of the box?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9What does it have to do with pods?
- atbnet, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8I doubt it will kill the iPhone by any means, but it's a pretty nice option for us Verizon users not willing or able to switch for the iPhone.
- Hipple, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7You seem unnecessarily bitter...
- natedouglas, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8And here again you reveal yourself to be a shameless hypocrite, using precisely the same language and questionable logic to condemn iPhone-purchasers as everyone else does. What a terrible shame that I agree with you so often on political threads and find you to be an unrepentant stifler of free choice when it comes to a goddamned phone. Color me disillusioned.
- TennisElbow, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Sexy like a pocket protector.
- ayeroxor, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7In how many senses can one be owed money?
- johnpaul191, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7as a verizon customer i can tell you they have charged up to $2.99 for crappy midi ringtones, and these days the ringtones "expire". you have to keep rebuying them. they also charge you $4 or $5 a month to "rent" the application so you can check email. cripple the hell out of the phones. fortunately the LG phones are pretty hackable.
anyway, the Verizon nonsense makes all the AT&T/iPhone nonsense seem relatively tolerable. - UtopiaInTheSky, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Why is this in Apple news?
- zengonzo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I particularly enjoyed dealing with AT&T customer service when I wasn't even their customer. They sent me a bill for a collect call received around Christmas, when I was eight hundred miles away in another part of the state for a week surrounding the date.
I had to talk to abusive customer service for hours cumulatively and they wouldn't cancel the bill until the Attorney General brought the hammer down.
They are gangsters. - TennisElbow, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Actually, Vista adoption has been far, far slower than XP adoption was following its release. Even Microsoft admits that.
- Bamborzled, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7What does the Macintosh have to do with McIntosh apples?
What does Digg have to do with digging? - relaxeder, on 04/17/2009, -2/+8Wow, the web browser and calender icons look NOTHING like the ones on the iPhone... Nope.
- dan00b, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7This submission is an example of what's killing Digg. Crappy description, and in the wrong category.
- edru, on 10/10/2007, -7/+13iPhone killer? Please...
Has this been hyped up for about 2+ years now - hitting front pages with rumors months before release with mock ups and *****...
i think not. - virtualball, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10Actually, people buy iPods for *gasp* brand recognition. You're telling me that everyone buys iPods for their love of Apple? Hah! People really need to think in the form of average consumers. People don't buy the Zune as much because it isn't an iPod and thus won't make them look as cool as saying "Look I got the iPod touch!"
It's stupid, but what you're saying is the 14 year old girls hate Microsoft and love Apple. They don't care, they just love their pink nanos. - intense321, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Haven't you heard? VerizonOS is much more powerful than MacOS-X. The developers have been working on it for over 20 years.
