- wpholmes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Hopefully a freeware app will come along soon.
All of these remote apps are shareware so far... - neonsign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4UPDATE: GRRRR- The trial only lets you have 3 menu options (out of the 20 or so that come stock) active at the same time- bastards.
- drakino, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Very nice looking, seems easier to use then the past products along this line. Just got done testing it on the MacBook, I'm putting it on the Mini in the entertainment center right now.
- macman81, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Try iRed lite
http://www.filewell.com/iRedLite/ - kwojniak, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Also check out Remote Buddy, which does the same thing

- enclaved, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you have a bluetooth phone, or an older mac without the Apple Remote; Salling Clicker ( http://www.salling.com ) might be something worth looking into, if you like the idea of remotely controlling your mac (or windows machine)
- TheCheeks, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3i was wondering when the remote would be taken advantage of. this could be really useful, downloading the trial thing...
- angelp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@Bioshocker - He wasn't complaining that the software wasn't free. He was complaining that the trial version wasn't a full version. There's a difference.
- addiggt, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1It worked fine for me.
- tbeseda, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I agree. Where is the open source?!
- al102785, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1same problem
- jeromeerome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wish the new Democracy Player supported keyboard commands so I could easily navigate it with the Apple Remote and this custom setting software.
- stepnet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Or a palm - most of the newer phones will even display info on the screen... I love the simplistic idea of the apple remote (and associated software) - but nothing beats the coolness of seeing your currently playing song's art on your mobile phone screen!
- ThankTheCheese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1cheers for that -- I found Remote Buddy _much_ more powerful than mira.
- ThankTheCheese, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Works great, but I can't help but notice the absence of the Finder on the list of controllable applications. Seems a little silly that you would still have to use the keyboard/mouse to get to the files you want to control.
- hexix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This seems really stupid. I was excited at first until I tried it and realized that the remote is not nearly enough to actually use any of the applications.
So I can scroll up and down a webpage in safari -- however I still need to have a keyboard to actually visit any websites. So.... I guess I'll just use my bluetooth keyboard.
The apple remote is way too customized for front row. An app like this ends up just frustrating me more than being useful. - mkrn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://mark-s.blogspot.com/2006/09/browse-web-with-apple-remote-and.html Here's how you can use it to browse web
- Coder0000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I believe the idea is that the launcher can be used for this purpose, so you don't have to search on your desktop for the app you want to control. Simply add the item to the launcher list and you have instant access to whatever app you want from an easy to navigate menu.
- neonsign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've tried out a few of these apps for my beloved pearly white macbook- Sofa Control (http://caseapps.com/sofacontrol.html) I'd heard about first, and moved on after a day or two, when I found Remote Buddy (http://www.iospirit.com/)- Remote Buddy is pretty nice and comes with a behavior creation wiard to customize it to your hearts content (though it may be a little tricky for novices to understand, and fiUrthermore I couldn't get it to recognize VirtueDesktops for the life of me- seems to have something to do with the lack of an installer on Virtue's part).. The license for this mira app is a few bucks more than Remote Buddy, I'm certainly willing to give it a try as I've yet to purchase a license for an app of this sort.
- Coder0000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Did you try the uninstall option that's built right into the program?
- zzttrooper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They've updated to fix the uninstall and increase the number of applications you can control and display in the menu for the trial version.
I didn't have any issues with the previous version after I registered, so this update is mostly for people who are still evaluating it. - zzttrooper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A cell phone isn't a remote though. Not to mention the Apple Remote's range is over 30 feet and most Bluetooth phones are lucky to get much more than 3 feet. That said, Salling Clicker is very nice software. It's just not the same thing.
- zzttrooper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Contact the support email address and I'm sure you'll get to the bottom of why you can't uninstall it.
- Nova79, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0im having a problem unistalling it too......i can't reset my computer or log out or anything why? NEED help pls!
- Bioshocker, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2"UPDATE: GRRRR- The trial only lets you have 3 menu options (out of the 20 or so that come stock) active at the same time- bastards."
I know how you feel - I'm always really angry when I think I've got something for nothing, but find out that's not the case. It's outrageous that the people who made this think they have the right to expect payment for their work. /sarcasm - GerryDaman, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1How would this compare to the Logitech Harmony remotes? Competition would you say?
