- omgroffles, on 10/10/2007, -3/+56Dugg for the article description that describes the article.
- reallydigginit, on 10/10/2007, -6/+40Yeah, right. they're "ripping off" consumers by constantly coming out with better stuff. Total rip off. Better stuff sucks.
They should do like Microsoft and just stop making good stuff. I mean, seriously, what's wrong with Windows 95?
Good stuf sucks. - affanjam, on 10/10/2007, -9/+41Please release it in Canada!!!
- FunkyWitDaSysTm, on 10/10/2007, -1/+27it's interesting that he openly mentioned their product development roadmap at all.
- RST1123, on 10/10/2007, -1/+22It's the opposite of a double negative; it's a double positive, thus being "redundant."
- cozinator, on 10/10/2007, -4/+21"4 large" would be $4000 - the iPhone never cost that much.
- backache, on 10/10/2007, -0/+16Is this a parenthetical citation from Jobs' statement?? I read the same interview and didn't come away with '3g next year'.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -6/+20Are people like you going to say this every time a iphone price drop or upgrade comes out?
"Whoa, that ipod touch must hurt those people who bought a 1G...The touch has 6 more GB for the same price! And look at all the other features!" - lukee, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13First, make Rogers come to their senses and charge reasonable data rates. THEN, bring the iPhone to Canada.
- Firehed, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Isn't it funny how this is probably the one time where "title says it all" would have about sufficed?
Well, technically it did, seeing that the description is just the title rephrased twice. - stonedgeek, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9And Australia. If the google phone gets here first I'm buying that. The race is on Jobs
- digitalgopher, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11I still digg. I just don't submit as much.
- aliguana, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10he just said "we're working on new iPhones" and that they'll release a 3G model when they work out the battery life. That DOES NOT equal "Apple will release a 3G iPhone in 2008". That's just inferred speculation.
- Moose_Head, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9Sweet, I can use 3G speeds on Rogers in Canada, as long as I don't transfer more than 25mb of data!
It is like having a Ferrari when the speed limit is 40 kph and the wheels fall off when you travel more than 25km. - tobsterius, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10So that means AT&T is going to roll out their 3g network across the nation... soon, then... right?
- alex1015, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10Redundant description is a bit repetitive
- bawpcwpn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Just to save time and cut out the repeated comments such as "Bring the iPhone to Canada", why don't we just say, "Bring the iPhone to the rest of the world!"
- superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7The headline is quite a stretch, at the event Jobs said he THOUGHT chipsets with enough power efficency would be ready later next year - but if they are not, no 3G iPhone until they are out. I think he's right to expect a solid days use out of a phone, any shorter than that and you have to start deciding if you really want to browse or not.
- norcalscan, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Wait - he's promising 3G next year? He already did that and we never got it. All we got was 2.5G, and then barely 2.7G. Oh G eneration, not G Hz?
/Typed on my dual 2.5GHz - MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Title says it all...TWICE!
- jasondefaoite, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5UK price drop in 3 ...2 ... 1...
- BossKey, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7I'm so upset about this. I never imagined that Apple would add major features to a device over the next 12 months. I mean, what about the technology industry would ever lead us to expect this?
- playaj20008, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5"We are working on the next iPhone already, the one after that and the one after that"
This makes my mouth water - beerbarron, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Whoever said battery life was less important than having 3G is a fool, can you imagine being in a phone conversation with a client and boom the battery goes, because you only have 2 hours worth of battery? No thanks...
- mrdeeds2324, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7i havent seen digital gopher in awhile, i thought you quit digg.
- SouthsideIrish, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4About the time I will get a new phone. Perfect!
- Firehed, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Even more interesting that nobody else seemed to report this. Not that I really care for Engadget or Gizmodo, but I'm doubting the credibility of this article until one of them has it (or a reasonably trusted Apple rumors site, or Apple.com). I'm sure it'll happen in time, but this does seem a bit suspicious.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4What does Black Sabbath have to do with anything?
- ShrimpCrackers, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The Food Guy is obviously sarcastic... as if the smiley face at the end doesn't give it away, his quote is downright obvious.
- Radian, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5In this case, I'm pretty sure Jobs will say "go f*** yourself" if anyone cries about being entitled to a 3G upgrade. To be honest, I wish he'd have grown a pair and slapped the early adopters with the full $200 idiot/nerd/geek/hipster tax.
Some ***** in our office left his precious iPhone in the crapper (yes, he's that much of a ***** that he brought it into the crapper, AND weird enough to have had it out, and STUPID enough to have forgotten it).... he didn't know where he left it & started calling everyone in his group, even at home, asking if they knew where it was. Assclowns like that should be forced to pay the full tax, NO $100 REFUND FOR YOU! - MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3And I'm sure we all know just where you had it implanted.
- Gameflyer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Can someone explain the difference between 2G and 3G?
- Moose_Head, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Not going to happen anytime soon. They are in bed with Bell and Tellus. The only unlimited data plan was from Fido which Rogers bought then removed the plan.
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It IS your choice. Don't buy something that doesn't fit your needs. Apple makes the iPhone. It will ALWAYS have the features that Apple wants to put in it, not your wish list
- tinygibbles, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3"Incrementally", just like how technology evolves. Apple is just doing it quickly, just like how technology evolves. But daddy, I want tomorrow's technology noooooooowwwwwwww!
- frogpelt, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Mum is no longer the word.
- Tenoq, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Waste of time unless it's HSDPA. I reckon the iPhone is an awesome idea and well-executed: except for the fact it's basically a mobile internet browser with piss-poor speeds outside wifi areas. Get HSDPA - get serious mobile browser.
- swiecki, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5I'm gonna digg you down. You're an ***** to all the early adopters of a product, you can't spell, and worse, you make old and bad jokes.
Fie on you sir. - Phatt138, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I know, I know, I'm not trying to be a grammar nazi, but when did "would of" become the latest mass error online?
"Would of" is a bastardization of 'would've', which means 'would have.' 'Would of' doesn't mean anything. - Tippis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_wireless_data_standards#Throughput
GSM is 2-2.5G, CDMA and UMTS is 3G-3.5G, - tony.pitale, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Buried for inaccurate and spam. Pocketlint just quoted the lines from the presentation that anyone could have read on Engadget:
http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/18/live-from-apples-mum-is-no-longer-the-word-event-in-london/
On top of that, I don't see where he said that 3G is coming next year. I see where he says "we're working on the next one and the next one" but, anyone could have guessed that Apple would not have been resting on their laurels. Of course they're working on the next one. - Me1000, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4How is that bad for early adopters?
it is over a year away!
God knows what kind of technology advances will be made by then, - Spuy767, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2NOt to mention that my friend's blackberry on at&t required his 76$ / mo service making his blackberry over two years more expensive than the iPhone.
- Spuy767, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I'm typing this on a dual 3G right now, it just took hijm a little longer than e expected to get it here.
- mateo60, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2you made me laugh hard.
- Kappa00, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2/sarcasm
- YoctoYotta, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Four c-notes would also be acceptable, but I digress.
- jasondefaoite, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Will you get a day out of it currently if you do all your browsing via WiFi? 3G (or 3.5G) can be turned off if needed to conserve power. Saying this is purely a power consumption problem is Jobs spin on this. Check out his response to the question about the camera on the iPhone when launched in the UK. THAT was funny
- dagamer34, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5So when the 3G 16GB iPhone is announced, previous iPhone owners are going to scream "we've been cheated!" all over again and expect some type of upgrade program or yet another $100 rebate. This is why companies don't do this stuff in the first place. You buy well knowing that it will be outdated sooner or later. It happens with game consoles, TVs, laptops, video cards, and ESPECIALLY cell phones. The RAZR that was the rage 3 years ago is totally unimpressive today. Time shouldn't factor into your purchase if you knew it had extra value worth buying at the time, otherwise, you'll waste your life waiting for Steve Jobs' "One more thing...."
- CLShortFuse, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2What it means for you (assuming you're on AT&T). With AT&T's EDGE, you'll get around 20KBps downloads. With AT&T's HSDPA (3.5G) it's peaked (by means of a download cap) at 200KBps which will be common if you have full signal. If not, you'll average at 120KBps (lowest of 60KBps). So it's like a 1.5mbps (T1) download connection for your phone at full reception.
