- eltrev, on 07/03/2008, -9/+43Now that Jobs is no longer an underdog, people seem to be realizing that he's a tyrant and a dick. Soon Apple will need PR for Job's image more than PR for products.
- DotNetWill, on 07/03/2008, -13/+40Yet more proof what a bell end Steve Jobs is. I don't get peoples obsession with this guy, if he had Apple in the same position as MS, he would be a lot worse than Gates has ever been.
- blastek, on 07/04/2008, -13/+32Steve Jobs will NOT be remembered over Bill Gates. His stupid marketing abilities promote things that have existed for years. Steve Jobs cancelled all of his charities while Bill Gates has created the most wealthy charity in the history of the world. Bill Gates is a great man and Steve Jobs is just a douche
- KMartSheriff, on 07/04/2008, -6/+16Ok, I'm a bit confused. Weren't they accused of backdating once before and it turned out they were clean?
- MavRevMatt, on 07/04/2008, -7/+17People who don't use Apple products have always known/thought he was a dick. And while that may be he is no doubt a genius and saved the company. The only problem is he's rebuilt it so it's all centered around him. So what happens when he leaves?
- batmanz, on 07/04/2008, -5/+11Whaaat? Steve lied? It can't be!
- UntoTheBreach, on 07/04/2008, -1/+7Um... take some English courses. "Gates' charity" is the correct use of the apostrophe for names based on pluralized nouns.
- Mediaright, on 07/04/2008, -2/+7True, Jobs is a dick, but those "stupid marketing abilities" saved Apple and are driving them to this day.
- NerveBand, on 07/04/2008, -2/+7Wow, Mac Fanboys must be in full season now out digging down comments that criticize Steve Jobs :)
- toxicityj, on 07/04/2008, -1/+6the same thing that happened when he got fired. Apple goes to crap again.
- kelly, on 07/05/2008, -0/+4No, backdating isn't illegal... its how they were backdated that was in question. Apple was found to be **not guilty** if doing it the improper way
- RG13, on 07/04/2008, -7/+116) Jobs fanboys are stuck so far up their own asses they can smell their own esophagi.
Oh wait. - DotNetWill, on 07/05/2008, -1/+4Please tell me you meant that sarcastically, if not go and read up on the history of Apple and Jobs then come back and say that
- mrBitch, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3RE: "Recap: Let's see, so Bill Gates's main contribution to society is an operating system that was a bad copy of the Mac OS and a suite of Office apps which were also rans of VisiCalc, WordPerfact and Lotus Notes 1-2-3. In other words, his legacy is based largely on being a copycat and the guy who killed Netscape. "
Actually, that is all true & correct.
You know your computer history. - KMartSheriff, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3^ Ok, fair enough.
- DeathRay2K, on 07/04/2008, -5/+8Don't be a douche. Everyone knows and admits Steve Jobs is an *****, and that doesn't mean he isn't good at what he does. Besides that, Bill Gates' charity is what he will be remembered for, and that trumps anything Jobs has done or likely will do.
- MacParrot, on 07/05/2008, -1/+4As long as Apple doesn't allow other companies to make Macs they will never have the same market share or amount of power that Microsoft has. Stop worrying about it.
- KibibyteBrain, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3Actually, I think throwing out MacOS and building on NeXT saved Apple. Which was actually a success of Steve Jobs' ability to supervise smaller teams of engineers. Steve Jobs really isn't good at marketing, but now keeps people close to him that are. Remember, it was largely his idea to cripple the Mac to market the more expensive Lisas, which was a really frankly bad idea. Perhaps learning form a mistake that caused what should have been one of the biggest victories for Apple into a quagmire has made him so effective.
- martyFREEDOM, on 07/04/2008, -5/+8"...and put scores of people out of work in his lifetime."
This is ridiculous. Gates has created more jobs than he has ever destroyed. Scores more. - DotNetWill, on 07/05/2008, -1/+3yeah, lets just igore the 100 of millions in stock options and dividends he gets ::rolleyes::
- sherbertbones, on 07/05/2008, -1/+3The level of brown-nosing you have performed over some moronic CEO is quite astounding, and quite pathetic.
- mrBitch, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2RE : "no one cares that the first web server was a computer built by a defunct company, quite honestly."
You idiot.
NOT a Web Server, it was the first WEB BROWSER that was developed on a NeXT computer running NeXT OS (which OSX is built on).
This started off the internet as we know it.
Up until this point, the internet was just a bunch of FTP sites and a collection of .alt newsgroups. - Mediaright, on 07/04/2008, -2/+4...why?
- sims5487, on 07/04/2008, -7/+8I'm a fan of the Apple products (primarily my iPod), and I know (and have known) that Jobs is a big dick. My iPod is still awesome.
- KMartSheriff, on 07/04/2008, -4/+5Why am I getting buried for asking a legit question?
- kevinkitching, on 07/05/2008, -1/+2"When you work in an industry with programmers and engineers with an average IQ of 150, you have to yell at people sometimes..."
What a load of unmitigated *****! You've clearly never supervised or managed before. Yelling and screaming at people is what my 4 year old does, not a grown up.
The best 2 bosses I ever had never, ever, ever yelled. I knew one manager, who was lateral to me at one place, who used to speak really quietly when he was giving instructions or corrections. He figured that if he did that, all of his guys would have to shut up and listen to hear him. I'm guessing it worked, because he had almost zero employee churn.
I don't yell at people who work for me, mostly because I make it clear that I'm not running a democracy, but an iron-fisted dictatorship. That, and I remind people who are screwing up that Del Taco is always hiring. - Aidje, on 07/04/2008, -5/+6'cause Diggers love to hate
- petard, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1Steve Jobs would do it, he seems like such an *****.
- sporg, on 07/05/2008, -1/+1Executives committing crimes. No Way! Really?
- kevinkitching, on 07/05/2008, -2/+2Who?
(*chuckle*) - batmanz, on 07/05/2008, -3/+2My understanding is that they found that Apple was in fact guilty of backdating options, but that Steve Jobs did not directly gain from it, and so he stayed on.
- inactive, on 07/04/2008, -3/+2say what?
- ferrariman60, on 07/04/2008, -4/+3Who's that? It's not Jobs, he's pretty much unrepentant. It's not Gates either, since he's been pouring billions into his foundation since 2000 when he founded it. And the guy who gives away billions of his own is way less an ***** in my book.
- punkcat, on 07/05/2008, -2/+1a number of times this happened but just as long as the lawyers are paid they are happy to file cases for you.
again because no harm to stock can be found it will of course not go through once more. - Aidje, on 07/05/2008, -2/+1^ case in point :-)
- HonoredMule, on 07/05/2008, -2/+1Hey, it's the accidental hero.
That's still better than an intentional douchebag. - punkcat, on 07/05/2008, -2/+1yeah, the crime was backdating behind people's back or without the rest of the board knowing.
- macmangb, on 07/05/2008, -3/+2Wow looking at all the comments, it seems that the Microsofty brigade is out in force tonight. Despite this FUD, people think Steve is great, because he is a tireless worker who gives everything back to the company (he is on a $1 a year salary).
MS and Bill Gates on the other hand continues to spread FUD about Apple while continuing to copy from them in the background. Gates retired because he knew he could never compete on the same level as Jobs, and now that Apple is getting rapid increases marketshare people will see that for what it is. - NerveBand, on 07/04/2008, -6/+5You know, if I go around asking people who Bill Gates is, most people actually know the guy. When I ask people who Steve Jobs is, they give me a confused face at times. Bill Gates is more iconic than Steve Jobs is. That is the reality.
Suck it up and move on with your life.
P.S. Go post your ***** on a crappy blog so that all you Apple Fans can cream in your pants together. - CaptainShaun, on 07/04/2008, -4/+1Either is acceptable
- ferrariman60, on 07/04/2008, -5/+2Um, no one is going to remember Jobs for NeXT. NeXT is a footnote, and while it did do some important things in its time, (OS X is based on NeXTStep, if I'm not mistaken? Memory is a bit shady on that front), no one today cares. People are going to remember Jobs because of his charisma. It's that simple- and no one cares that the first web server was a computer built by a defunct company, quite honestly.
- macmangb, on 07/05/2008, -7/+3Steve is an inventor, innovator, an ethical businessman and an allround nice guy.
Gates is a thief and all his success has been stolen from other companies. - KMartSheriff, on 07/04/2008, -7/+1Where did they say he would be??
- shinon, on 07/04/2008, -9/+3I think your comment is stupid and no one cares what you think anyway. You have 8 bucks in your wallet so shut up.
- geezshock, on 07/04/2008, -8/+2why so serious ??
- smurf22, on 07/04/2008, -11/+4While everyone is screaming about Bill Gates and Steve jobs I will say this.
Linus Torvalds - howdareyou, on 07/04/2008, -10/+1Gates's, Gates isn't plural for Gate.
- digiguy, on 07/04/2008, -10/+1Then why is Windows OS $400? and Windows 7 $400
