WTF? The user interface is a feat of engineering with a feel for what non-techie people want (which does not come from Marketing, Microsoft is a marketing driven company). And it still takes very good (actually better) engineering to get at that point.
If Apple didn't have a good product, all the marketing in the world wouldn't bring in business. Look at the Apple of the 90s with its inferior, outdated OS for an example of that. - viruz, on 07/05/2008, -0/+6When Jobs left Apple before, the company nearly collapsed because they forcibly got rid of him and his vision along with that.
If he takes the time to groom someone, I expect the company to continue thriving after he leaves.
The Guy's got brains, he knows that when he leaves, he will leave it in very very capable hands. - thredden, on 07/05/2008, -0/+6I am looking for a print link on every article I submit now. I hope everyone else will follow suit. Well done young man or woman.
- misxn, on 07/05/2008, -0/+5Nah I bet it's the guy who does all the iPhone guided tours.
- AboveandBeyond, on 07/04/2008, -4/+8two girls and one cup
- kipmartin, on 07/05/2008, -2/+6the only thing worse than a fanboy is an anti-fanboy. especially one who starts whining before any of the fanboys posted. dont you have a Service Pak to download?
- pixelperfect, on 07/05/2008, -0/+4You went to the trouble to not be sexist? - but not ageist?
- ExSlashdotter, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3Uhh, sorry, but he's an artist, not a CEO. He'll still be in charge of the design aspect after steve is gone.
- inactive, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3forbes is one of the most poorly designed major websites on the internet. i work in the online ad industry and wouldn't ever put a brand in that environment if i had anything to do with it.
- TheAbsintheHare, on 07/05/2008, -1/+4Jonathan Ives. Duh. He completely understand the "True to Itself" vision of Apple design.... Mostly because he's responsible for it :]
- sandbird, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3It's like anywhere else - you don't want to be the guy that follows the legend. you want to be the guy who follows the guy who followed the legend.
- inactive, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3You've kind of missed Google there, Sergy and Friends still have a lot going and coming for them.
- taizoshiozaki, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2It's either Scott Forstall or someone from Pepsi.
- thredden, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2lol, pixel, to tell you the truth I didn't even know that existed. thanks, i will now say
"I am looking for a print link on every article I submit now. I hope everyone else will follow suit. Well done young or old, man or woman" - MonkeyFarts, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1He can't. It'll render his computer unusable. No, really, I have to use XP SP2 because SP3 literally makes my computer a $900 paperweight.
- 2ptyou, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1Parody site ala fake Steve Jobs for Scott Forstall already?
http://scottforstall.com - Orchid64, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1No matter who follows Steve Jobs, the problem is going to be customer perception and the market's confidence in Apple. No matter how brilliant his successor, unless that person both has a positive public record of achievement that inspires confidence and has demonstrated at least some of the salesmanship that Jobs has, Apple will have a bumpy road post-Steve.
Apple needs to start grooming someone now so they can point at the next guy and say he came up with this new and "insanely great" idea and so someone can take the stage occasionally in place of Steve. - jepizacar, on 08/04/2008, -0/+1nice resource....

http://jeniya.info - Barackalypse, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1I vote Larry Ellison, the man just exudes likability =)
- pixelperfect, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1That'd be funny.
- bdsams, on 07/05/2008, -2/+3I wonder if, back before steve was famous, if he had a hard time applying for jobs...with a last name like job people might assume he was only doing it as a head hunter
- Barackalypse, on 07/05/2008, -2/+3Can we drop the stupid "2.0" meme already? Its tired, its hackneyed, it was never very clever to begin with. Let it die already.
- ronaldmonster, on 07/05/2008, -1/+1Wait...when did he retire?
- Remlapw, on 02/13/2009, -0/+0http://www.how--to-make-money-online.blogspot.com
I think that apple needs to give more jobs.. they take all our money anyways might aswell give some back - krnldmp, on 07/05/2008, -3/+3The future doesn't need a bloody icon.
- Ca1houn, on 07/05/2008, -1/+1i dont agree with that. Jobs came back and blew Apple to a great success yes but if you recall apple started falling into that hole while he was there and then the clones came and well you know there rest. i think as a leader he has set apple up to be successful after his departure
- chillypacman, on 07/05/2008, -2/+1Just got o any given used care sales lot and hire the first sap who exends his hand out to you.
- inactive, on 07/05/2008, -2/+1Buried 2.0
- pathy, on 07/05/2008, -2/+1I'm of the opinion that Jobs won't be training or looking to appoint anyone after he leaves.
It's a big ego stroke for him if he builds up a massive, successful company, and then it crumbles after he leaves due to retirment. - ggidlabeay, on 07/05/2008, -1/+0http://www.eqperformance.com/mambo/
The company will be fine. - Ricky81682, on 07/03/2008, -8/+7Jobs is synonymous with Apple. It's like trying to follow Warren Buffet at Berkshire. However, unless Jobs wants the company to collapse after he's gone, he has to find a successor. I think the problem is they tend to find "typical MBA" guys who don't have a clue of the Apple culture or reason why their products are popular. It's the marketing and user interface, not so much the engineering.
- Atomic1fire, on 07/05/2008, -3/+1Now would be the perfect time for a desktop google os
why
Microsoft doesnt have gates anymore
Apple is going to loose jobs at some point
This could go badly for apple
and Microsoft might not be able to handle its self without gates - Badandy127, on 07/05/2008, -3/+1The company will be fine.
Short term prospects for Apple stock? Uh oh. - Iztikeit, on 07/05/2008, -5/+1Who cares if Apple goes under? Someone will replace them and fill in any market void, regardless. Maybe it will eliminate all the product placement fanboys? Let's all sit around and think about a companies future.......
Sometimes I think certain Diggers appreciate Steve Jobs more than their own parents...... - EWChomp, on 07/05/2008, -5/+1Phil Schiller all the way!!!
- CryptiniteDemon, on 07/05/2008, -7/+1Really, does Jobs deserve all this credit? HIs only vision is a world with no buttons. Other than that, I would attribute much more of Apple's success to LOGAN.
That and he made plenty of blunders back before his resurrection. The company didn't almost die because he left, it died because of Motorola and Microsoft. - BrownManUPS, on 07/03/2008, -12/+5Bill Gates gone, Steve Jobs soon...which technology buff of today will be the next icon? I think the answer is no one. Instead, millions of people will become famous, thanks to open source computing and viral marketing.
- parentingteens, on 07/04/2008, -10/+3Steve Jobs is the pioneer of the Digital Age and Cannot be replaced, the only way to to replace him is bring in another anti-corporate guy.
- batmanz, on 07/05/2008, -13/+2Maybe it will shut the fanboys up.

What is Digg?
