- blankman2g, on 10/12/2007, -13/+36Apple has been ahead of Microsoft as far as quality is concerned for quite some time now. Apple won't be attacking Vista (I don't believe this writer speaks for Apple) they'll be trying to stay ahead of Vista (shouldn't be hard as Microsoft has just begun catching up with everyone else).
- uptown, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22digga please!
- Seidoger, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22I remember reading somewhere (ThinkSecret i think) about how the UI elements will be all vector-graphics based, so it's all resolution independant, which is a great improvement.
- unibomber999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15"I guess if you cannot stand on your own two feet, your only choice is to attack a competitors offering. same old, same old."
Hate to be the one to break it to you, but everyone attacks their competitors. That's what makes for competition. It's a big, scary world out there where everyone tries to out-do each other. - kalphegor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15haha I love it already, Apple vs. Microsoft, again and again and again
- hybrid8, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13except that the Q runs windows mobile =/
- Seidoger, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15Hmm? Page 2 anyone? (At the moment of going to press lol)

Although i agree this title is more punchy - jamesthejust, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11If iTunes 7 is anything to go by (I read they were sampling Leopard UI elements) the change isn't massive.
- jonahan52, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10You think they start working on something when they announce it?
- Terc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11...because Vista looks the same as XP....
and Beryl is making Linux look just the same as ever...
Beryl fans, don't digg me down, I love Beryl, it's running on a second partition. Just trying to make a point - legaimulu, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Then I'd prefer you tell my wife...
- yevkasem, on 10/12/2007, -7/+15which is why the linux desktops are starting to really seperate themselves, the old "if you don't like it, don't use it" motto keeps things moving forward.
- kingace, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I think you mean self-conscious.
And, to Terc, beryl isn't meant to change the look of Linux... it's meant to be a desktop effects engine. Emerald changes the look. And that's why we have THEMES. As well as the ability to choose between entirely different desktops. Dumbass. - badtz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Are you serious? The guy from BeOS implemented Journaling into HFS+ since Panther, and meta data searches are already implemented [Spotlight]....
- hybrid8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6" It's a big, scary world out there where everyone tries to out-do each other."
chyeah look at the antivirus ecosystem *shudder* - sandiegojoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6they're going to replace the mouse with a motion sensitive remote controller. The "iMote"
- bbatsell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6What in particular about HFS+ do you think is looking worse for the wear?
- Boondoggle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7yes and hours to spend configuring it all in Linux...
- drcforbin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4At least there's a little competition again.
- dh8r, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5That "dumbass" remark really hones in your point.
- erkokite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"It's time to zig now that Microsoft is zagging with Vista."
Move zig! - noamsml, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I know that to us geeks theme changes seem minor, but they leave quite more of a psychological impact than an advanced, stable kernel or an innovative programming interface. As much as this may sound silly, I believe that a theme change, if played off well, could be a huge factor in Mac sales.
- Terc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3He never said this was mind-blowing, earth shattering, think along the lines of Time Machine.. and the recent revisions to the iTunes UI. Vector graphics UI for example....
- cctoronto05, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@ohchristopher
TNG? - NSResponder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3As much as I enjoy Gruber's writing, I think he's rather off the mark here. Apple doesn't have to do anything to make MS's products look bad; they do that all by themselves.
-jcr - Viremia, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Please use the search feature on Digg.
buried: duplicate
http://digg.com/apple/What_secrets_are_still_left_to_be_revealed_in_OSX_Leopard - JohnFrisco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I don't understand the advantage that Apple would gain trying to scare MS. Also if Apple doesn't come out with some pretty cool "Top Secret" features that will only make Apple look bad and disappoint all Mac users. But Apple has made some pretty bad mistakes in the past, so who knows?
I am really looking forward to Macworld! - JohnFrisco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I love Apple and use a Mac myself, but Apple unfortunately did make some pretty big mistakes:

The wiimote? - MBX1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2one thing might be CORE ANIMATION. (even though we know it exists already) but even more ways on how it will be used in leopard.
even if there weren't any other features but the ones we know i'm already impressed. cause core-animation will bring so many possibilities how you design interfaces and it will be so easy for developers to create stunning & useful ui's that can blow everything away we know of now. - zigziggityzoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2wait, where do I move to?
- forchilli, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2GOD I HOPE SO at least give us a choice like brushed metal or unified, etc, and more than just blue and graphite
- atariby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So good they dugg it twice
- SuperSnake2012, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd be pretty satisfied with a GUI change if it just meant unification... I hate how some things are Aqua, and some things are brushed metal, like Safari.
- hunchback, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2SJ is such a tease with all his top secret announcements. We have something great lined up for you blabla, but yet, its all a secret. Tease me Steve Jobs tease me *****.
- gweedoz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1After playing around awhile with Vista, it looks and feels rather cartoon-like and immature. I think the OSX look and feel is already ahead of it... however, OSX could still use a nice UI refresh, and given apple's good sense of taste, it is sure to be nice.
- cctoronto05, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Doesn't anybody think that it could be a new Finder??
- lopla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Whatever it is I look forward to it, Vista is the most unstable and bloated POS I've ever used, its actually worse than Windows ME. If Vista and Zune are all they have to offer they are toast.
- Baloo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1yep buried.. .dupe
- diggnationdevon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Whatever Steve Job's top secret surprise is, I sure hope its positive.
- ohchristopher, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Q?....Q!
- badtz, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6How so?? You mean you'd rather have NTFS? lol
- FHKE, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"Top Secret" = An excuse for parts that have not been completed yet.
- LightninJoe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Yaaaaaawwnn...
- Seidoger, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2@digga
Yep.
So outloud you can't imagine how.
It was quite an event, sucks you missed it! - dwemer, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4Ahhh, a Digg classic; totally unfounded speculation about an Apple product.
I hear the iPhone will have a revolutionary automatic Ass-Scratcher. - 1911wolf, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Terc,
All of those things or anything else along those lines cannot simply be integrated into an OS in a 2-3 month timeframe. That is of course, if you expect them to work as they should in a final release. If you're looking for iTunes 7 version 1 type of functionality, sure you can duct tape them in and promise a patch later down the road. I don't know about you, but I switched to OS X for the "It just works" promise. Not a duct taped half-assed job. - unibomber999, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4I've heard people are already camping out at Mac stores for it.
- tformed, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Mind games.
like i said, probably the "secret" feature will come out with some new product they will be releasing or is released such as the ipod and iphone.
some new feature that will not only hurt microsoft but is a response to the zune. - NSResponder, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Windowshade and the control strip both spring to mind.
