- domr, on 10/12/2007, -4/+55You're quite right, Kroc. That's probably why I uninstalled iPod Linux ages ago.
(The guy in the video is me. Not entirely sure why this has been submitted AGAIN.) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+41There is a reason Apple didn't put video ability on the nanos. It had something to do with the fact you can't see jack, the screen is so small in real life (and not this close up video)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+25Not only is this video 1 year old, this subject has been covered on digg since it started.
Nothing new
No digg - daRoach, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19@domr
Because that's what digg is all about. Re-submitting things that some people haven't seen. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Yay 2005.
- borninda818, on 10/12/2007, -7/+18it's good enough for music videos and porn. I used to have it on mine. Took it out cuz the videos take too much space.
- ArcticWolf_0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12This was even on Diggnation at one point.

Episode 21. - KeyLimePie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I've had iPod Linux on my Photo for awhile and it's essentially unecessary. Playing videos and the gameboy emulator will drain a full battery in just over an hour.
I just show it to my technophobe friends, pretend I'm magical and did it all, soak up the temporary praise and then go back to my corner. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5To answer your question, iPod Linux is a secondary operating system for the nano. It does NOT replace the Apple OS. You dual boot by using the buttons on the iPod.
Check iPodLinux's Wiki for the keystrokes on how to do this. - kingkilr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Not for your eyes
- tdkyo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Load time for the video in Ipod Nano is unacceptable.
- ydt89, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yeah, ive had Ipod Linux, with Floydzilla on my Nano forever... The first time though i screwed it up and turned it into a brick -.-; the people at the apple store didnt really care though and just gave me a new one. Good 'ol Apple.
- domr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yup, people are always saying that about my videos.

also guys check out iDoom, it's awesome - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4You can also Dual Boot them.
- domr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Yes you can get back. Just delete everything and run Ipod Updater again.
- skidogallard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I have to say, THIS IS OLD NEWS!!!!!!
- gavintlgold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2A year ago? No! It was this summer.
- themarq, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Does anyone know: if you put podzilla on a Nano can you go back to the original Apple OS or is it a one way street? I'd like to try it but would hate to trash my iPod in the process.
- mikedpirone, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4make sure you do restore and not update on the iPod Updater
- ptcfast2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ok, the main reason Apple did not put the ability to play video on a Nano was:
1) Storage Capacity
2) Screen Size
3) The Problem Of Decoding Compressed Video
The problem is that the iPod Nano does not have a secondary processor dedicated to decoding compressed video. The iPod Video does because it was designed for that purpose. The current processor on the Nano is unable to decompress video at a rate needed for steady playback. That is why iPod Linux only play uncompressed video on the Nano. You can't really play anything else with the current generation's specs. - gavintlgold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@hydroxyl
Don't forget that iPodLinux allows you to play doom on your 'Pod! (alas, no sound). (google idoom) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2google rockbox, from what Ive heard its an awesome bios/firmware/os/whatever upgrade for most mp3 players. supports movies all audio formats doom etc.
- XxXoldsaltXxX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I remember reading something about this, and how that the video is an uncompressed AVI, which equates to a huge freaking file. Apparantly the nano cannot handle compressed files, so that is why apple didnt include a video player in the first place
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4"There is a reason Apple didn't put video ability on the nanos. It had something to do with the fact you can't see jack, the screen is so small in real life (and not this close up video)"
You're missing the point, what's interesting about it is that it's capable of it at all - BrettE, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Is this new? According to the iPod Linux Wiki: http://ipodlinux.org/Video_Player, it will only play uncompressed video. Not super useful, and it's been doing this for a few months at least.
- sparkmonkeyz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yah, this is really old, I have linux on my nano too, but I just use it to play doom.
- Hydroxyl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@Kroc:
Good point, I could see installing it on an iPod Video... But it already has video support anyway, so thus iPod linux is really useless outside of playing lots of other music formats.
But eh, I'd try it once and find out for myself. - titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I rember the episode it was on, a live event somewhere. I remember Alex watching LOST on it and when he heard Saide say "get the gun" he's all like "Gun? There's a gun?"
- rbvmusic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Not only is the screen too small but iPod linux sucks the life out of your battery like nothing.
- mrgono3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3My friend did this a like year ago. Its pretty stupid because to convert the videos for the nano you have to have windows and mplayer. (As far as I know). Also the video format is uncompressed so the files are really huge. Like 50 megs for a 4 minute video. There are some cool games though on iPod linux though.
- crossers, on 07/19/2008, -0/+0this is old news, but nice!

http://www.chasr.org/ - lini, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Actually, with rockbox you can play MPEG2 compressed video streams (.m2v) right now. Also, since the nano screen is pretty small, it does not require too much processing power so the frame rate is satisfactory. Unfortunately, there is no sound yet (the plugin is still in development). It's just a matter of time though. rockbox is great.
- JC4P, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3This is pretty ***** old.
- Marked as lame. - Hiker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Installing Linux on the Nano.. meh! Now installing Rockbox, however.. that's AWESOME!!!! I've run it on my iRiver h140 pretty much since they got sound working on the h1x0 and then a couple of weeks ago bought a Nano (for the gym) and installed Rockbox on that. I love Rockbox so much!
- ydt89, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I have mine so you can select if ya wanna boot into the Apple OS or Ipod Linux.
- chimaera2005, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Not for your eyes, or the Nano's battery. Plus I can see stupid people messing up on the install, turning it into a brick, then complaining that "iPodLinux broke my nano!" It's not worth it, especially with only 1-4GB.
- chad78, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Or, he could just spend $58 a get a 4 GB MP3 / MP4 s1 player with video built in, like I did.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVrFdHpaSaI - KJSatz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Damn guys, the video is from November 2005...and was on Diggnation...
- HornR52, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3So, what you've got nothing better to do then to go around correcting other people's spelling. What a loser!
- samste, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1i almost LOLed.
- chimaera2005, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Not only is this video super old, but that dude needs to clip his fingernails.
Sorry! No digg. - Hiker, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2It's "ridiculous" with an "i". Why am I seeing this word spelled incorrectly so much lately?
- HornR52, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2This is rediculous, you pull us in with your headline, to show us something that's already been done. Hello, all that's amazing about this video is that the person that posted it was able to load podzilla onto their nano ( really hard, please!). How about this, hay guys look I can run video on my iPod photo, after loading podzilla on it. No digg!
- farfromsubtl, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Those are AVI's?! Why not mp4? If they aren' encoded in h.264, of course they'll be too big.
- amandaverhagen, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Wow.
There's a minute and thirty one seconds of my life I'll never get back. - tatltat, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1so if i put podzilla on my nano, i can watch video??? is it safe?
- mlwarrior, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4Well, I've also seen this before, but there are a lot of people who haven't, and that's why it's front page. Sometimes re posts are good. Digg is user submitted, so if a lot of people find this cool, then it means that there are a lot of people who haven't seen this yet.
edit heh, daroach beat me to it. - conditionals, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0Been a... naughty girl.
Real bad... so and so.
