- cell-gfx, on 02/08/2008, -3/+43One of the best things to ever happen to my X-Box and I can't wait for this to happen!
- nekochan, on 02/08/2008, -4/+36Chuck Norris doesn't code. He just glares at a computer until it does what he wants.
- CosyCat, on 02/08/2008, -7/+27bye bye "front row" (not that I ever used it)
- sinizuh, on 02/08/2008, -1/+18Under the large black rock known as Xbox.
- CosyCat, on 02/08/2008, -1/+14download for Intel only ver.0.1(.dmg install) http://dn-0.com/xbmc-trac/wiki
- Kabrabnzada, on 02/08/2008, -3/+13XBMC app on my touch would be amazing.
I would be able to stream more than just mp4... - superjunaid, on 02/08/2008, -1/+10Downloaded it, Installed it, works nice, but I can't add usb-drives to the list of movies... Love the interface!
- usingpond, on 02/08/2008, -3/+12Here we go.
- aspec, on 02/08/2008, -3/+10I thought Norris went stale after the suing that book company. Or the Huckabee endorsement?
- llsethj, on 02/08/2008, -2/+9Wow, this is a great app. Where has this been hiding?
- fani, on 02/08/2008, -1/+7Major Props and THANKS to the XBMC Dev team. That has to be one of the BEST software I've used.
I love it on my XBMC. That is single handedly keeping my Xbox the champion in my living room.
Now that they have the Mac OSX version ready, its gonna replace my Front Row.. - SuperSunny, on 02/08/2008, -1/+7He's not flaming Linux. He's judging future compatibility. I've had my share of graphical problems in Linux. If they continue to pursue the OS X crowd, it is MUCH easier to maintain. No apt-getting no complicated sources no X11 problems etc. Just run it and it works.
Linux does NOT have POWERFUL growing market in the desktop arena. I can go into any public building, ask about Linux, and it confuses the ***** out of people. I love it (when distros work), but it really, really, REALLY is not meant for the typical computer users. - JustinPM, on 02/08/2008, -0/+6XBMP turned into XBMC after revisions.
- digitalpencil, on 02/08/2008, -1/+5This'll be superb!
DTS/AC3 passthrough, 1080p (and beyond!), no more codec issues thanks to ffmpeg, upnp & all on an open platform! - cosmicr, on 02/08/2008, -0/+4"it seems like it's a confluence of people who like the best OS coupled with people who like the best media center".
great kid, now dont get penisy. - monkeyman67156, on 02/08/2008, -0/+4We've never stopped our porting work for Linux. In fact, the OSX port is the fruit of a single person's labor! Anybody who has programming skill is welcome to submit patches and help out with XBMC development.
- RyeBrye, on 02/08/2008, -1/+5"9to5Mac: Speaking of other devices, do you have any plans to port XBMC to the AppleTV?
Elan: Unless Apple opens up a SDK for the AppleTV, it is very unlikely that our core group will do so..."
Ummm.... Once you hack your AppleTV - it's trivial to get it to load any normal Mac app... Just copy over the .app file, and put an entry into your application loader.
The performance would not be quite as good as with a Mac Mini - but seriously - there is next to no additional effort needed. - inactive, on 02/08/2008, -0/+4The only reason I havent bought a xbox360 yet is because I want XBMC to work on the 360. It is by far the best media center, and has the best OS (Xbox OS) that is not a resource hog and works even to this day with 1080i support. Yet with xbox 1 720p/1080i is way too slow to run on xbox1, You guys at xbox-scene make a better Xbmc on the 360, and I wouldnt care if it killed game support.. XBMC is the greatest gem out there, I am so shocked when these crappy media centers come out and no one mentions XBMC. You can softmod a xbox1 with a xbox memory card and an old $2.50 game with the right app being put on the memory card.. I have made about 5 of these for family and friends, and it has been the most value. It streams podcasts, movies, music at a better rate than a XP or Vista Media Center anyday(minus the 720p/1080i stuff being a lil ol p3)
- rstarr, on 02/08/2008, -1/+4http://xkcd.com/378/
- CosyCat, on 02/08/2008, -1/+4simple just edit sources.xml
/Volumes - blatantninja, on 02/08/2008, -5/+8Wish they'd finish getting it ported to Linux first!
- chadamir, on 02/08/2008, -0/+3http://www.team-mediaportal.com is a windows fork of xbmc from the original creator of xbmc after he didnt want to not be able to have dvr.
- johanm, on 02/08/2008, -0/+3the potential i see here is that both XBMC addons and apple widgets are somewhat similar (both can use python) so porting those things could be done without too much of a headache!
- Steorn, on 02/08/2008, -0/+3Finally MAC getting something REAL :) Be prepared for world domination !
- monkeyman67156, on 02/08/2008, -0/+3We're doing all the development in the same branch. The OSX port is making great contributions to the Linux port. Its more of a symbiotic relationship rather than "First Linux, then OSX".
- PainToad, on 02/08/2008, -2/+5My PPC MacMini hates u :)
- NOFXY, on 02/08/2008, -0/+3Anyone remember about the xTV theme for it? makes it just as nice as an apple TV and has more functionality (minus the HD playback if your xbox hardware is stock)
Theres an SVN for it somewhere out there. google, as always, is your friend.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gZg3bh8_3o - SupaDawg, on 02/08/2008, -2/+5Apparently DarkDX & nekochan didn't get the memo.
- CosyCat, on 02/08/2008, -1/+3this works better than the linux version LOL
- smergs, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2My 360 just got shipped off a few days ago for repair. I went ahead and hooked up the old Xbox and updated to a newer build of XBMC. I can't believe how great it has gotten. It has always been an awesome app, but there are some great new features compared to what was out a few years ago. I'm glad that this thing is being ported to other platforms so that people without modded Xboxes can have a chance to try it out.
- beerbarron, on 02/08/2008, -1/+3Am downloading now, hope this as good....
- mingistech, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2yes... it's a setting under display.
i've been using this app for weeks now... totally love it. - rickremixx, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2sweet
- inactive, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2will it stream to ps3, like a upnp app?
- lharrod, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2Norris jokes haven't gone completely stale (yet) just harder to get a laugh from. Note the diggs on DarkDx's joke versus nekochan's.
Norris entering code is not funny, whereas Norris glaring at a computer until it obeys him out of fear is still (kinda) funny. - danny951, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2it *should*
- BRODEL, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2Damn. I've been debating on buying a mac mini for a while now to use as a media center. Right now I am using XBMC on well.. an XBOX and it's great, but it would be awesome to have this so it could handle HD.
- fr34k5h0w, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2It crashes on me whenever I press the backspace key in an entry dialog. Every backspace puts a malformed character in the input box, eventually freezing the application and crashing. But who knows, maybe someone will have better luck with it.
Oh ya, tip for those who want to connect to their SMB shares like you can on the Xbox version: Mount the file system (Go -> Connect to Server -> smb://yourserver/sharename). Next load up Terminal and make a symbolic link to either your root directory (ln -s / Root [or whatever you want to call it]) or the mounted share (I prefer root directory so I can access other stuff if needed). Now you can open up your root directory in XBMC by browsing your home directory. Shares are mounted in /Volumes/sharename
EDIT: nvm you can just edit the sources.xml file inside of the app and it will work just as well. - t0ny, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2Linux and Mac are pretty similar so it should not to work on both the same time. And I bet most of the work is going to be in openGL which should be the same on both os.
- cullman, on 02/08/2008, -2/+4As good as what? Keep in mind it's a .1 release. It does much but it is far from complete.
- balthisar, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2I run Mythfrontend on my Macs, and the real XBMC on my televisions (well, the Xboxes, whose sole purpose is to run XBMC). With the XBMCMythTV script installed, I have universal access to my MythTV box (in a closet) everywhere in the house.
- balthisar, on 02/08/2008, -0/+2Ha! This is the Linux port, ported to the Mac OS. By a single guy.
- codelogic, on 02/08/2008, -0/+1I wouldn't hold my breath. As of now, neither the 360 nor the PS3 are viable platforms.
If you don't care about the games, it makes no sense buying a console just to mod it, why not just pick up one of the many mini ITX systems? Legal platforms will be getting much higher priority than illegal ones FYI. All you need is a decent proc and a good OpenGL 2.0+ GPU.
http://www.mini-itx.com/ - codelogic, on 02/08/2008, -0/+1Have you even tried XBMC?
- dgp1, on 02/08/2008, -0/+1seconded!
- danny951, on 02/08/2008, -0/+1I am curious of the performance with an AppleTV.. Hopefully by the time the main xbmc on osx gets more matured , say v0.2, someone will have it working on the atv and let us know how it works with hd content and 5.1 / dts audio. 720p mkv bd and hddvd rips are where my bandwidth is going lately.
- Telexen, on 02/08/2008, -2/+3Oi. Finish the linux port and make it the base for changes before going off to other operating systems.
- johnpaul191, on 02/08/2008, -0/+1i like front row.... but i use it on my Mac in my room, as opposed to a living room where i would have an xbox if i owned one. honestly i use it more to play music from bed then to control video, but for that it's great. otherwise i could not read the text from across the room.
- keithmcbride, on 02/08/2008, -0/+1and the person behind the OSX version is adding changes to the Linux portion of the project as well. the two pieces should, at times, help each other
- cglisson, on 02/09/2008, -0/+1Mwahaha... hey... no Vista v. OS X. v. Scientology quips? WTF? You guys are getting lazy! OS X + XBMC ftw!
