- peterjmag, on 10/10/2007, -5/+58Am I the only one that thinks this headline looks like the subject line from a spam email?
- Alegoo92, on 10/10/2007, -1/+33This title does not say it all.
- mpaige, on 10/10/2007, -0/+24"t turns out that creating new GUI iPhone apps is both harder and easier than you expect."
Then I am both happy and sad for you. - MasterThief117, on 10/10/2007, -0/+23The headline sounds a little weird.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13In fact, it doesn't say jack *****.
- ClOlD, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13WTF does "pre-alpha" mean? Isn't "alpha" by definition the FIRST in a series?
- cleverboy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8I think its an ode to those chapter titles of old.
Chapter 3, In which our hero discovers the secret of the dark forest.
Chapter 4, In which a desperate choice is made.
However you look at it, it was going for something that gets lost in translation.
Its carry over from the Potter madness no doubt. - SillyMamma, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Title is a joke. Take off of all those Victorian novel chapter names that all start with "In which", e.g. "In which, Our Hero visits Digg and ends up in Great Peril"
- JeremyBanks, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8No. Alpha means it's ready for internal testing. In cases like this, pre-alpha means the product probably only has a fraction of it's features implemented in any way.
- titlesaysitall, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Fool! You have diverted my merciless wrath!
- CCB0x45, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4We are currently working on a UI mobile terminal for the phone, anyone is welcome to help out... we are trying to wrap bash so you can ssh to your computer at home, and other useful stuff.. come hang out in #iphone-uikit on irc.osx86.hu, and our google code project is at: http://mobileterminal.google.com Source is freely available, ask us for access in the chat if you want access for checking in.
- blacklint, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Sigh. Of all the applications I expect to be built, Skype is definitely not one of them. Skype is closed source and uses a proprietary protocol. I do, however, expect to see a SIP client (which could connect to Gizmo, among almost anything else) very quickly.
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5No Sara, we all didn't agree that it was a POS. That's in your little fantasy world where everyone thinks like you do. And Apple's stock is still higher than it was before the iPhone launch even in an overall down market, which means you fail in stock analysis as well as figuring out technology. Good luck with that burger flipping thing though!
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3It means "I pressed compile and it worked as expected so I quickly uploaded it onto the internet to be first"
- SuperSunny, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Why are we still posting computer articles. Sheesh, those were ages ago. Why are we still posting Bush articles? Sheesh, Bush is old news. Why are we still posting at all?
- anonym41414, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3"Forced" Apple to release Boot Camp? What, you think they read a couple blogs and then launched into an all-night programming bender?
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Well it makes me excited and ambivalent, and sleepy.
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Looking...looking. Nope didn't say anything positive or negative in what I said about the iPhone. And no, it didn't flop and other than an ATT report of ONLY 146,000 activations in the first 30 hours it was available. And then Apple's report of 270,000 sales in the first 30 hours. Maybe you could point to a report showing sales of a different phone that sold more in the first 30 hours. Can you? No, I don't think so.
4Q07 will be more telling in whether or not the iPhone isn't selling well, so we'll find out in October.
FTR: I didn't buy an iPhone nor do I want an iPhone, but blindly bashing it because YOU don't want it would be as stupid as me blindly bashing Vista as I don't use that. But I don't so I won't. Grow up. - MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Welcome to the world of iPhonewhiners.com where every post whether it makes the front page or not is complained about even though the complainer could easily ignore the Apple section, or failing that, choose not to read an iPhone post.
- jkoke, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Dugg for calling him "Sara"
- shimbee, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It sounds to me like the title of a chapter to a Charlotte Bronte novel or somesuch. Don't be hatin'!
- fLUx1337, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Well, building the "app" isnt that hard (for a PROGRAMMER!), its the framework to get everything working which is..
As soon as the frameworks all done, you should see masses of apps being developed...
....laugh if steve jobs opens it all up then, so all this was a waste of time! - cyke777, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Except that those chapter names wouldn't have a comma after 'which'.
- vcleniuk, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2All I want is a numeric battery level readout. The tiny battery icon alone, doesn't cut it.
- soul12, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2The one in which, iPhone apps are built
? - ioannusdeverani, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Wow. Lets see how far we can nest this.....
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I loved that one. Chandler gets run over by a truck and...no wait, that's was what I wanted to happen to all the characters of that show.
- Zenithan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Sometimes.
- anonym41414, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Except Harry Potter books don't have chapter titles anything like this. So you were doing okay right down to your last sentence, then you blew it.
- mikesay98, on 10/10/2007, -4/+4People better be digging this just for the comedy of the title, and nothing else. Otherwise, it just proves people will digg something on the main page just cause it's there...
- evensong, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Waste of time? No.
The same way Windows was hacked into Intel Macs forced Apple to release their own program (BootCamp), this MIGHT force Apple to release a dev kit for iPhone. I say 'might' because AT&T also has a large say in how the iPhone is handled. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Thanks LASLO !
- quickfix98, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0SDK is on its way apparently...
http://iphone.corank.com - ementis, on 10/10/2007, -8/+8Bring on Skype!
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1No no CIOID you don't understand. Pre-Alpha means it's in Zeta stage. It means they basically came up with a name and now it's Miller time!
- abandonedhero, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Apparently you blew it when you started whining.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+4Wait, I thought we all agreed the iPhone was a POS. Didn't it kill their stock value from only having sold less than one sixth what they themselves claimed? Why are we still posting iPhone articles?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2you're foolish. The iPhone flopped.
- zweben, on 10/10/2007, -7/+6No.
- hasansexy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Maybe
- hmemcpy, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1What, the hell were you trying to tell, in the title?
- wevegotthejazz, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1kudos to the hackers who figured this thing out, but I have a feeling these apps are going to make the phone 1000% more unstable, especially when you receive a phone call
hopefully I'll be proven wrong over time - TheADOGuy, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1Title sounds like a "Friends" episode name...
- mdman, on 10/10/2007, -3/+0Its hard and easy... ? Ooook
- voitenko, on 10/10/2007, -4/+0agreed with mikesay
- ClOlD, on 10/10/2007, -4/+0And these features AREN'T ready to be tested? Or for that matter, aren't BEING tested by scores of downloaders?
Is there some secret Greek alphabet I don't know about? - dagamer34, on 10/10/2007, -5/+1Perhaps because analysts are idiots and forget that people are tied up in 2-year contracts? O_o
- thechosen, on 10/10/2007, -6/+11. Purchase iPhone: Easy enough
2. Activate iPhone: Tough, but finally activated
3. Build Custom iPhone app: Incomplete... - sexylee, on 10/10/2007, -4/+0So sick of iPhoneeeees.
