- Shawn4168, on 10/10/2007, -8/+711They didn't even straighten out the paper clip for you? What the hell kind of customer service is that?
- canewediggit, on 10/10/2007, -11/+612in a press release jobs stated "this is the first time in the history of mankind that a company provides a tool that can not only service their products, but keep notebook paper organized. it's truly a revolution!"
- Aslan72, on 10/10/2007, -9/+529Hopefully MS doesn't sue them for stealing Clippy. :)
- SlantyEyes, on 10/10/2007, -9/+340Apple is always ahead of the curve... I heard MS is about to release one, but it won't be as shiny
- tktino, on 10/10/2007, -16/+325Omg, this is going to be announced in the next apple gathering
The Apple iClip! - zephc, on 10/10/2007, -3/+228You can tell its the Apple Paperclip Pro because its silver. The normal Apple Paperclip comes in black or white.
- 1jaxstate1, on 10/10/2007, -12/+221They'll place a tiny apple logo on it, and charge 29.99 for it.
- Terr01, on 10/10/2007, -7/+200This is exactly the kind of innovation Apple is known for. After all, while PCs may have used paperclips for various purposes (like CD-ROM drives) they just didn't bring the panache and usability to the paperclip that Apple has. I mean, anybody can see that Apple's paperclip "just works", as opposed to Wintel paperclips. *scoff*
- DASH, on 10/10/2007, -3/+185Clippy got a new job!
- Homunculiheaded, on 10/10/2007, -4/+173You can get a black one that's 2mm longer for just $40
- ThEDeMoNKiNg, on 10/24/2007, -7/+174At least he didn't have to spend $60 for a special "Sony screw"
- cfd339, on 10/24/2007, -13/+161LOL -- Someone has a great sense of humor, and you didn't get the joke. The clear message here is "Most of these kinds of issues, moron, can be fixed by using the reset button. Its in the instruction book we gave you, but just in case you're an idiot, here's a picture. We'll even give you the paper clip. Now quit wasting our time."
I think they said it much better their way.
:-) - TyroPyro, on 10/10/2007, -11/+134man what a waste of packaging
- FriskDown, on 10/10/2007, -5/+106I can't wait for the iClip Nano, the smallest paper clip known to man.
- inigomntoya, on 10/10/2007, -2/+88yeah, and the iClip shuffle will just be a jumble of staples...
- rebopper, on 10/10/2007, -20/+96So they assume if you own an iPhone, you will have no idea how to get your hands on a paper clip. Market research triumphs once again.
- ChronicColonic, on 10/10/2007, -3/+73It looks like Clippy has a new job at Apple. He was not happy when Microsoft let him go...
- TheLoneWolf071, on 10/10/2007, -13/+83dugg for MacGyver and Apple being the best crime fighting duo ever...
- HellifIno, on 10/10/2007, -3/+73*sigh* even Clippy could get THAT right the first time around.
"I see you're typing a post on Digg..." - mateo60, on 10/10/2007, -1/+61I was worried about Clippy. I was afraid he would be homeless and drunk on a street corner. He'd annoy people passing by by saying "It looks like you're walking by, would you like to: 1. Keep Walking 2. Lie down 3. Give me a drink "
- littlebear, on 10/10/2007, -3/+57Microsoft will sue for copyright infringement on clippy the paper clip.
- steviedee, on 10/10/2007, -0/+52Prepare for an influx of competing brands such as the ClipRiver and The Sony "Clip"
- superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -0/+50You do realize that diagram is describing how to extract the SIM, right? There is no recessed rest switch, that is done through iTunes if you need to refresh the device (or if you just want to power it down and up again that is the top button depressed for a few seconds).
The reason you would want to know how to extract the SIM, is that you can get a backup iPhone from the APple store when you send it in for repair, so when you get your old one back you'd want to re-insert your old SIM from the backup.
If only you were all half as clever as you think you are... - cusoman, on 10/10/2007, -3/+50Clippy defected! Good to see you back in work man :)
- manmetropolis, on 10/10/2007, -4/+46Wow, why wasn't the clip the "official mac white", then I would've applauded with joy!
- thehumancow, on 10/10/2007, -2/+40When my Zune broke they sent me a Microsoft PaperOrganizer Professional XP 2007™
- SlantyEyes, on 10/10/2007, -7/+44You're the official tool of the iPhone.
- mseneschal, on 10/10/2007, -1/+36LOL
http://ilovethisworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/01/mcgyver-paperclip.jpg - JimmyDushku, on 10/10/2007, -2/+35The Sony Screw is aka the PS3
- Pssdoff, on 10/10/2007, -3/+33I bet its a staple
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+31Of course the iClip Pro will come with 2 clips AND a staple.
- dechah, on 10/10/2007, -2/+31Apple paperclips are so much prettier and better designed than all those boring generic paperclips that all those PC lemmings use.
- prisoner24601, on 10/10/2007, -0/+29What I can't understand is why we didn't see Steve Jobs demoing this himself at a convention.
- chris9902, on 10/10/2007, -3/+30Greenpeace must love Apple for this.
- superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -8/+32So no-one seems to realize what this is for, or what it means.
When you send an iPhone in for repair, one option is to get a backup iPhone from the Apple store. As part of that, your SIM is extracted and put into the backup phone.
So what happens when you get your old phone back? You need to take out your SIM from the backup phone and insert it in your old phone. That's what the diagram describes, you press with the paperclip to extract the SIM tray at the top of the phone.
Alternatley you could use any phone that accepted a SIM as a backup phone, if you didn't mind missing out on the iPhone features for a while. In that case you'd still need to know how to open the SIM slot to re-insert the SIM when your phone was returned. - maverick808, on 10/10/2007, -9/+33If they had straightened it then it would likely burst through the packaging during shipping. Damaging the precious Apple packaging, we can't have that!
- Phatt138, on 10/10/2007, -1/+25Is this your first Apple device? Apple employees (officially or not, I'm not totally sure) recommend opening their computers' infamously tight cases with thin, tough objects like paint scrapers and credit cards. Business as usual when you're trying to make seamless devices that may someday need servicing.
The fact that they sent you an 'official' Apple paper clip with the directions -is- pretty hilarious, though. - dorianh49, on 10/10/2007, -3/+27But they're RANDOM staples. RANDOM! It's amazing!
- akatherder, on 10/10/2007, -1/+25The Sony "Clip" installs a root kit on your documents when you clip them together.
- noahhoward, on 10/10/2007, -5/+28Please with as much as people bitch about the slightest thing wrong with an apple product? If the instructions suggested using a paper clip and there wasn't a paper clip included you bet your ass some retard would start a class action suit.
- griz, on 10/10/2007, -2/+25When the MS version comes out, it will undoubtedly be labeled the iCLIP Killer.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24no thats how they get ya, u gotta use THEIR paper clip
- dorianh49, on 10/10/2007, -0/+22The only way to get a raise or a promotion in this business is to go work for another company. You know that Microsoft will try to re-recruit him back, though, probably by offering him his own office. And his own V-shaped contortionist paperclip "secretary". I hope his new office has a door.
- cbuddha42, on 10/10/2007, -0/+21Next week on digg: "Microsoft sues Apple for stealing helpful paper clip idea"
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+20They can put a removable plastic cover on the sharp end to prevent this.
- profOblivion, on 10/10/2007, -3/+22Was there a cat in that picture? I didn't see a cat in that picture. Did anyone see a cat in that picture? I must be blind or something.
- mavranos, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20Old news. The paper clip has been the "universal mac tool" since 1984.
- noahhoward, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18Or, you know, ten minutes.
- sjbdallas, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19Would be a funny video to see pop up on YouTube though: Clippy kicked out of MS, living on the streets, holding up signs about organizing for food, then one day Jobs drives by and picks him, wines and dines him then offers him a job as the only tool an iPhone owner will ever need. Almost brings tears to my eyes.
- lepton, on 10/10/2007, -1/+18Excuse me, but does that particular clip actually FIT in the SIM eject hole? I (really) tried a clip of that size and the wire the clip is made from had too big a diameter for the hole. I had to find a small paper clip made from skinnier wire. I smell a clip recall!
