IPhone 2.0 Video, ITunes 7 Confidential Screenshots
gizmodo.com — I have tried the iTunes 7.7 confidential pre-release which will be required to install the new iPhone OS, and the latest iPhone OS 2.0 release. After a few days of heavy use, I can tell you that both versions are rock-solid. As you can see in the video, the App Store is there -although it's not active yet- along with the new Push data feature

- blamgiz, on 07/02/2008, -0/+18If this turns into the same anti crusade jobs had against the right click, its going to be a problem.
- KSUdesigner, on 07/02/2008, -1/+10But there is light at the end of the tunnel, Jobs eventually caved and gave in to the right click. Took a while to get there, but eventually they got there.
- superkendall, on 07/02/2008, -5/+9OS X always supported two button mice. And laptops never shipped with them - because they are not needed.
The only crusade I see is from people who cannot understand why you don't really need cut & paste on an iPhone nearly as much as they think you do. - RobotBuddha, on 07/02/2008, -0/+7superkendall, I'll happily concede that copy and paste might not be useful to you if you'll concede that you don't know the various uses everyone else in the world puts their iphone to. I tend to write a fair amount of notes with it, and it would be very helpful to not have to constantly switch between the browser and text editor to get the information I want in a single location.
- jabberwolf, on 07/02/2008, -2/+5Copy and paste!

- frisbeeman, on 07/02/2008, -0/+13I agree, viewmymessage.com is absolutely awful, and I think asking people to send me pictures via email and pay ridiculous data charges if they don't have a data plan isn't too cool either.
- billbugger, on 07/02/2008, -0/+11it'd be nice to have mms messages auto-forward to your email account.
1. no MMS like apparently Jobs wants
2. no viewmymessage.com ***** portal. - rdas7, on 07/02/2008, -6/+9what was the point of MMS? I mean, you're supposed to be able to program slideshows, with multiple images, audio, transitions, text, etc. but all anyone ever uses it for is sending a single image from their camera — possibly with a caption. Tell me how that's not simply superseded by email, twitter, or IM?
- tnoy, on 07/02/2008, -3/+12My sister and I are the only people out of the group of people I text back and forth with that have a PDA-like phone, everyone else has something like a RAZR or other cheap cellphone. We're also the only ones with a data plan. We're able to send pictures back and forth through email without a problem.
Everyone else, though, will just send an MMS with the picture they just took. I can view it just fine on my Tilt, but my sister cannot because its an iPhone.
Sure, MMS is ***** compared to what the iPhone can provide, but when 99% of the people you know just use their basic phone to send a basic camera phone picture over MMS, then it would be a very good feature to have. Works the other way around, she cant just send a quick camera phone image to anyone.
The MMS omission is just stupid. Its something a lot of people still use.

- Taiyoryu, on 07/02/2008, -1/+7scrap SMS and MMS for the useless and over-priced technology that it is. Unlimited data + IM/email client makes it unnecessary. And not that I'm a Twitter user, I'm sure a native Twitter client on phones isn't that far off.

- theCreator79, on 07/02/2008, -2/+5$1,800 a year... uhh yes, I do consider that much!
- tnoy, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3Compared to the way most telcoms have been charging people, $150/mo for unlimited everything is not a bad deal.
Though, Helio and Sprint for $99/mo, Tmobile is around $130/mo, Verizon is $150. Though, some may offer less features under the "unlimited" umbrella that AT&T is for the iPhone. (or the other way around)
- shank2001, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2Guess what, it is the same for any other phone. And here you are blaming the iphone... move along folks, nothing to see here, but a whiner.

- AZRoboto, on 07/02/2008, -13/+10I have a question...is there anything about an iPod Touch price drop? The 8GB iPhone is $200, but the 8GB iPod is still $300!
- ColorBlind, on 07/02/2008, -0/+13the iphone is subsidized through AT&T....the ipod touch is just an apple product you buy straight from them without a contract.
- AZRoboto, on 07/02/2008, -2/+5Well, yeah, but it's a year later now, and they proudly shout their 50% off iPhone 3G (regardless that it's cheapened by AT&T).
You'd think that they'd either up the storage or cut the price by now. It is weird seeing the phone, at face value, cheaper than its less-functional counterpart. - ColorBlind, on 07/02/2008, -0/+7They will probably just drop them down a series. Replace the 8GB with the 16GB and the 16GB with the 32GB.
- AZRoboto, on 07/02/2008, -2/+5Well, yeah, but it's a year later now, and they proudly shout their 50% off iPhone 3G (regardless that it's cheapened by AT&T).
- ricksite, on 07/02/2008, -1/+5It probably won't drop much if at all. It isn't subsidized like the iPhone. My fiancée got a touch recently. It is lacking quite a bit. I was surprised to find that it doesn't have a built in speaker. The speaker on the iPhone isn't great but it works. It would also be nice if it had a small camera. If they don't lower the price, it would be nice to see them include a couple more features.
- Jholder112233, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1It isn't an iPhone though, what iPod has ever had a camera? Yes it would be nice to have but it's not going to happen.
- eyefork2, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Before camera phones came around we asked ourselves a similar question: What phone has ever had a camera? I honestly think adding a camera to the iPod Touch would be a great feature for the future, bringing it closer to an all-in-one device, and it would be good for capturing those "spur-of-the-moment" photos and possibly videos. People may say that the iPhone is in the process of becoming this device, but I personally like to keep my phone separate from my other devices (although I do use my camera on my phone quite a bit).
- fribhey, on 07/02/2008, -1/+10the iphone at face value without a contract will be $599 for 8gb and $699 for the 16gb. how is that cheaper then the itouch?
- NBOY39, on 07/02/2008, -1/+4The iPod Touch is the big good Apple is giving away with "Back with Mac" this year. In the past, Back to Mac has given away a product which would be phased out for something new in September or October or so. Look to see the 8GB Touch dropped and the 16GB will become the new $300 model, making a little more sense with these pricing plans.
- tnoy, on 07/02/2008, -0/+4The iPhone also costs you the monthly fee of the cellphone.

- ColorBlind, on 07/02/2008, -0/+3seriously doubt it.
- manitoba98xp, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2I doubt that current jailbreak techniques will work, and even if you did, some jailbreak apps might not.
You should only incur data charges if you use applications that require data. And as you can see here, you can even stop autopolling applications (like MobileMail) from polling without your explicit permission.

- kylekyle, on 07/02/2008, -3/+3I agree.
- kenvsryu, on 07/02/2008, -7/+8Why are you so against a feature that 99% of phones have?
The iphone email is crippled being only to send 1 photo at a time.- Radan, on 07/02/2008, -4/+12I'm against MMS for the same reason that I'm against Fax. This is an old technology which was all out stupid to begin with. MMS is practically gimped email which only exist because no one would accept paying 35 cent for sending a regular email. There're no technical reasons for not including email in every phone, but it will never happen if no one takes the first step and throws this utterly ridiculous so called feature out the window.
- rdas7, on 07/02/2008, -3/+5Radan, can I digg you one hundred times?
- Kyle918, on 07/02/2008, -0/+5Well, i understand where you are coming from, but can't the same be said for SMS? The reasons why cell phones have MMS is for the very reason you just stated. However, MMS isn't limited to one stupid picture like the iPhones email is. Also, just like kenvsryu said, nearly every single cell phone has MMS if not all of them excluding the iPhone. Why would you not include a feature that everyones cell phone already has? The whole point of the iPhone IMO is to re-invent the cell phone. It has done that and is in so many ways, many steps forward, but at the same time, a few stupid steps backwards. Its not a huge deal to implement MMS and if its easy and will please who knows how many people, why wouldn't you do it??? Another reason why so many people want MMS on their iPhones is for a simple reason....their previous phone had it. If my previous phones have ALL had MMS and the iPhone is supposed to be a phone and then some, why is it missing features I had and liked that my old $40 phone had??
Also, I don't see how you would be 'against' MMS? I mean, if it doesn't bother you if the phone doesn't have it, why would it bother you if the phone does?

- thetanman, on 07/02/2008, -0/+5I'm 25 and I use it a helluva lot, people younger than me use it more than I do. Maybe that's the threshold, I don't know, but I typically send and receive a few a day, more on the weekends.
- Kyle918, on 07/02/2008, -0/+2O, and replying to superkendall, not everyone that has an iPhone is a business person. A lot of iPhone users are kids like myself. And being kids, not everyone has the money I have to afford an iPhone or a regular phone and pay for data charges so that we can exchange emails...
I mean, yea, the iPhone is an expensive phone and comes with an expensive plan, but its NOT just a phone that adults in suits that work in a business have...a lot of none working, sub 18 year olds have em.

$199US used well. - bxblox, on 07/03/2008, -4/+2Typical fanboys: the apple way is the only way. "What? two mouse buttons?! thats ugly and stupid!" No one had any complaints about MMS before the iPhone. Why? because you had them. If you wanted to email someone from your phone you just entered the address instead of a phone number. Now since you can't send an MMS from an iPhone its, "MMS is stupid and ancient, only little kids on Myspace (because thats just another thing im too cool for) use it!" Everyone isnt a technohipster. MMS does what people want it to do. Just because people with iPhone now can't communicate textually with everyone else with a cell phone doesnt mean MMS has become obsolete. It's serving its purpose for everyone else, send a text or send a pic. If you're too good for MMS then ignore all the inferior non-iPhone-having beings and deal with everyone else not having or needing email.
- 1nhuman, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1MMS is just an crippled e-mail like service that costs money. Originally it had built-in functions on the provider side to convert multimedia content so that they could be displayed on phones. But they usually didn't work very well and you had a lot of phone compatibility problems.Since people are sticking to sending images mostly this hasn't been a huge problem. The MMS servers (MMSCs) also had billing services built-in, which is great for the provider but not for you. Furthermore MMSCs supported different types of connections for instance to other providers (at a cost) or to SMTPs for sending mail.
Anyway all that stuff is nothing an end-user needs anymore. You don't want to pay per message (but use your already purchased data-plan), you don't need transcoding services, because most people send only pictures anyway and email works without expensive connections between providers.
So the only reason to use MMS is because everyone else is. Personally I hope it MMS gets clobbered to death with a baseball-bat. I hated it from the beginning (it might have something to do that I had to work with MMSCs).- bxblox, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Just about anyone that can get some type of mobile web can also send and receive email through it. MMS is simply an option that is available. If you have a data plan on any other cell phone you do not need to pay for each email you send. E-mail and MMS are totally separate from each other. It's an available service for those who are willing to pay for it. If someone believes it is not worth it they can simply use their data plan, which is also available on other phones, to send an email. I dont see bashing MMS as any more useful than bashing email because we can send a Voicemail instead, which would not require a data plan. I may not need MMS but I like to have the option.
"The MMS servers (MMSCs) also had billing services built-in, which is great for the provider but not for you. "
What if I send less than x amount of MMS in a month and that costs less than a data plan, which every other phone does not require you to have? Then it's great for me.
