Many websites and companies and things are necessary to foster competition and innovation. Some are clearly better, but that also serves as an incentive for other sites/companies/services/etc to better themselves.

I found a lot of apps i hadnt heard of and saw a lot of apps that eveyone knows about (firefox)
it is, however, missing several apps that just *should* be on the list
also, NO freeware list i have found thusfar has an IP scanner.
