- mywhitenoise, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15to watch movies, listen to music, see pictures, and easily transfer media, you stupid *****.
- Microdot, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14please... whatever you do... dont buy one. you are far too stupid to know what to do with it.
- 4815162342, on 10/10/2007, -4/+16http://tversity.com/home
I wish people learned how to google. I bought my ps3 a couple weeks ago and had this set up on the first day. - Frozo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13OR... stop trolling because this story was submitted for people with a Mac and a PS3.
- DarkDx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Dugg for reading when I get the ps3 (later this month)
- tehrob, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10or you could just use http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Utilities/PS3-Media-Center-X.shtml and be more limited, but much less work.
- Microdot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9because the guy asked for a pc option. and tversity is the best option for windows. maybe you should learn to read.
- NeoTechni, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Something you wish you had
- X18999, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5no, thousands like he said.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Well you could play thousands of great games with it.
- Microdot, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7you have a mac version of tversity crammed up your ass that the rest of the world doesnt know about?
- mywhitenoise, on 10/10/2007, -5/+10Some of us don't want to spend money on a ***** operating system, or support Microsoft in any way.
- punisher18, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6just the other day i had to do this exact same thing for my friends ps3. its a great tutorial thanks for showing us.
- gamemaster357, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4something thats smarter than u
- Billions, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5"Retarded." Hmmm. You, know, sometimes you look around at your gadgets and decide to try to make them do things after you already own them, for fun. It's not "retarded." Going on the internet and calling people 'retarded' is, well... Retarded?
- mywhitenoise, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I was using EyeTV for a month, but then it wanted $50 to continue the service. Hopefully this is helpful information.
- miyamotofreak, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
- NicksVideo, on 10/10/2007, -4/+7Or just build a media PC. It'll be a lot cheaper than buying a 360 and living with Vista.
- KyleMistry, on 10/10/2007, -5/+8Something tells me that this is a lot more complicated than it should be...
- NeoTechni, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Rename them to avi files
- thatsmyaibo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Twonkyvision works perfectly. Run it on the Mac and the PS3 and #^) will recognize it as a media server. That's it.
- Septimus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Orb.com But it's not worth it for the quality you'll get.
- TheDragon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I beta tested Vista, and my fiancee bought a dell with vista loaded on it. It just flat out does not run well. Just the fact that Service Pack 1 is going to be issued the same year the OS released is proof that Vista is complete *****.
- flipside927, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3TVersity is the best out there. hope it will support HD .mkv files soon.
- dvddesign, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3OSX is perfectly capable of running it. Besides, I don't want to have to clog up my system's drive with videos and leave my system doing on the fly conversion when it needs to be doing other things.
TVersity is great if you don't wanna spend the time and effort to encode a set of videos you plan on keeping, but given that most conversions are practically realtime at 640X480, why would you bother with the extra hassle of converting on the fly everytime you watch something. Do it once and it's done.
Also, Connect360. It's not worth wasting your time doing 360 on a Mac any other way. $20 solves all your issues. - EggoTrip, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I can use TVersity through parallels on my Mac - worked great with the 360 so I assume it would be fine also for PS3.
- pezholio, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Yeah, I'm on OSX though, so no Orb for me :(
- kevnaca, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2This is what you need. Straight form the official ps3 sony forums.
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/26068 - mywhitenoise, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2But it's $50. Anyone want to give me a registration code? Because I really liked Eyeconnect, up until it asked me to pay to continue the service.
- MaximegalonInfo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Clearly you do not know what you are talking about. TVersity is a breeze to setup and automatically transcode. There is no work or difficulty using it.
- slantyyz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1While promising, there isn't a "true" Mac streamer yet. By "true", I mean one that you just install and works like a dream.
The same case is on Windows. As good as TVersity is, I've had loads problems getting videos to transcode cleanly to my PS3. Right now, it's easier to let VisualHub run overnight than spend time tweaking TVersity.
Until you can eliminate the step of using VisualHub (or an equivalent) to recode PS3 unfriendly formats, you're in for a lot of work. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1This is cool because I've been doing it the sloooow way by converting files over to PS3 readable format....now this will be great
- TheDragon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1And still be unable to watch DivX and Xvid videos. That's a great solution. Personally, I'm using my PS3 with YDL loaded on it to stream video from my file server to my TV. This, in my opinion, is the only way to use a console as a streaming utility and not be limited in what you're able to watch.
- djSyndrome, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Seconded. I also like Twonky's server-side options for sorting media.
- theaceoffire, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1However, UNLIKE the 360, you can have external hard drives with the PS3.
So no lost space on the actual hard drive... Just make sure to format it to fat32. - edwinistrator, on 04/22/2009, -0/+1it's a few years later now, but this works perfect
http://code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/ - ibeetle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Twonkyvision has had a lot of problems running on intel Macs. My iMac refuses to stream everything to the PS3 except plain old vanilla .mp3's for example.
The other problem with Twonkyvision is it is $40 bucks and there is little or not support. The complaints of the software barley or not at all running is quite large on their message boards.
This artical, maybe geeky, but it does provide a free soultuion.
I do not know who's fault it is (Apples or Sony's) but when I run Windows (under Parallels) with Orb it really is UPnP. - Corny, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1There are not too many PS3-games, at the moment. The console is however backwards-compatible with almost all PS1 and PS2 games.
- rajb245, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1windows media player 11 has this built in, u can figure it out with some googling. OR if you're using wmp10, there is a media sharing download you can find too called "Windows Media Connect"
- streetr8cer13, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1azureus has a built in media server (UPnP) should check that out too
also check out Allegro Media Server - TheDragon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Using the PS3 as a DVR (which you CAN do, kthx). Or even using the 360 as a DVR is just not a good idea. The reason these systems are coming out with bigger hard drives is for downloadable content. I'm not going to sacrifice space to use for game content so I can store recorded TV shows. If you want a cheap DVR, build a media center. It's not hard, it's not expensive, and you have exponentially more hard drive space for saving video.
- stonr2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I don't follow: you used to convert files and copy them to the PS3 hard drive but now you stream incompatible media through your Mac?
- esotericguy, on 10/10/2007, -4/+4SHAZZAM!
http://www.redkawa.com/mediacenters/ps3mediacenterx/
for the Windows users out there, this one is awesome - SnowBladerX, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Sweet, just bought a ps3 2 days ago, been looking for something exactly like this.
- pezholio, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Any idea how to do this on a Wii?
- tastypastry, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1Thanks because I don't own a Mac.
- lukas88, on 10/10/2007, -7/+6"Hello PS3 TV!"
So you are excited about watching TV... on a PS3... on a TV. - pfromg, on 11/28/2007, -2/+0so much for being this super duper easy to use OS.
You wuld have to be a major geek to even attempt to go through those instructions.
no thanks, if thats the best the mac can do , then ill ignore this "ability" for now. - Birdoftruth, on 10/10/2007, -8/+5now, if someone could tell me how to do it with a PC without using Orb
