- NathanielJ, on 04/10/2009, -11/+73Why the hell is this on the digg front page? By the logic presented here, my laptop is a cell phone because I use Skype on it.
- NewPunk, on 04/09/2009, -0/+42These tips will only work when you have Wifi... also, you will not be able to receive calls or SMS when the applications are not open on the iPod Touch.
Still good tutorial for those that did not know. - bedake, on 04/10/2009, -0/+27I miss the days when techy ***** was the norm.

http://www.iwantoneofthose.com/iclamp-ipod-convert ... - MerchantofPanic, on 04/10/2009, -0/+16Apple needs a marketing campaign: Cue cool guy watching his iphone/ipod and jacking off on a train, on a bus, at a wedding, at dinner. Maybe a tag line 'I love my pr0n, I love my ipod/iphone, and now i love myself - anywhere, anytime, all the time'
- djstrat, on 04/10/2009, -2/+16Hello Skype is available on the ipod touch now! This is totally old news!

- larrimer7, on 04/10/2009, -1/+13not me?
- inactive, on 04/10/2009, -8/+19Who here turned their iPod into their portable device for watching pr0n the go?
I did. - inactive, on 04/10/2009, -2/+13Good luck randomly finding wifi whenever you wanna make a call.
It's abundant, sure, but not THAT abundant. - chompapotamus, on 04/10/2009, -1/+11when you're at home with your wifi...next to your cell phone.
- Raptor007, on 04/10/2009, -0/+9If you Jailbreak it, you can run the applications in the background. Still, the main limitation here is the need for constant WiFi access.
- ldkronos, on 04/10/2009, -0/+8Yeah, and you also get a $70+ bill each month. I use less than $10 in prepaid minutes per month, so that would be a hefty premium for me.
Of course, the title of this article is completely inaccurate, as there are severe limitations to this, so it's not really like an iphone. Thus I'll stick to my ipod touch and a separate cell phone anyway. - Dalif, on 04/10/2009, -0/+7I never did understand the concept of pr0n on the go. I mean, and perhaps I'm very old fashioned here, the only reason I really care to watch pr0n is when I... uhm... you know. And that usually takes place at my place of residence.
Transporting pr0n from A to B would be nifty I guess, although, with most of the civilized world covered in broadband internet, using ftp or just finding ***** on the web is easier. - Raptor007, on 04/10/2009, -0/+7That's awesome!
- Goombellaofgoom, on 04/10/2009, -2/+9You might have better luck if you tried places other than Starbucks...
- satori3000, on 04/10/2009, -1/+7already needs a mirror, I can't see this.
- Raptor007, on 04/10/2009, -0/+6Or if you want to receive calls when you're not at home or work. But I guess that's only 5% of your time?
- Goombellaofgoom, on 04/10/2009, -1/+6I miss the days when techy ***** was the om nom nom.
- defenswens26, on 04/10/2009, -3/+8Google cache (Very slow, but it loads):
http://74.125.95.132/search?q=cache:OiF5MebIyK8J:w ... - inactive, on 04/10/2009, -1/+6No Cell, No Phone. The correct title would be "How to set up a VOIP app on your iPod Touch"
Bury for the inaccurate title. - mbfielding, on 04/10/2009, -0/+4turn or turn... that is the question.
- Burrito, on 04/10/2009, -1/+5You need porn on your iPhone...? Is that really where we are as a society?
- muzzy, on 04/10/2009, -0/+4@Raptor:
Actually, ya, pretty much.
I'm not gonna lie and say it'd work for everyone.
I love being connected at all times to the internet... but I hate being constantly connected to my phone.
I'm one of those jerks that make you leave a voicemail every time you call... so it suits me just fine.
BTW: Marathon- ++ - Technopundit, on 04/10/2009, -0/+4Just because somebody doesn't desire to spend their money on overpriced gadgetry and communications services doesn't make that person "cheap". They might just be "smart". There are too many good alternatives around these days.
- muzzy, on 04/10/2009, -3/+7Article isn't the greatest, but the idea behind it makes sense.
I'm spending $100+ right now for an iPhone, one extra line and 300 minutes. I had texting, but I realized it just was not worth the cost. Not because I don't think texting is a nice feature, but they are raking us over the coals for it.
So, instead, starting next month I will be using Skype + a SkypeIn phone number to replace ATT. The total cost will be $6/mo, and I'll have unlimited usage.
Sure, I can't use it in areas where I don't have WiFi. 95% of the time I'm around WiFi. I'll keep a cheap $30 prepaid cell phone in my glovebox for the times when I'm not.
I guess if you *really* need to be on the phone in your car all the time, this plan would not work... - jsmith39, on 04/10/2009, -0/+3I wouldn't say I neeeed it, but you know it is a video player and well, umm, yeah.
- belorion, on 04/10/2009, -0/+3The thing I want most out of my iPod touch isn't the ability to make phone calls, it's the ability to have 'net access anywhere there is a cell tower signal.
- tito13kfm, on 04/10/2009, -1/+4http://rorr.im/digg.com/apple/how_to_turn_your_ipo ...
- SciGuy013, on 04/10/2009, -2/+5In places I've tried to get Wi-Fi, I've been unable to because I need a special plan or something. It's also (relatively) expensive. $4 an hour!
- devkim, on 04/10/2009, -0/+3for the other 5% use voipover3g

http://www.rorr.im - RandoTheKing, on 04/10/2009, -0/+2It's becoming increasingly hard to find unsecured networks around me. This just isn't practical.
- Rudegar, on 04/10/2009, -1/+3I think the article was directed at cheap ass's who would pref not having to suck it up
so basically your comment would be like a
"why don't you just suck it up and pay"
in the
"how to save on gas for your car"..... - cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -0/+2It's not "cheaper" if it's on a contract.. what is cheap about paying $199 + ETF ?
- frostbyt, on 04/10/2009, -1/+3I did. I only have anull Pr0n movies on there. Just to show to women I meet up with how it's done.

- edtang, on 04/10/2009, -1/+3Why would you install Fring? Skype works *so* much better than fring.
- ElvisLives, on 04/10/2009, -0/+2Step 4: Install WiFi routers all over the country, everywhere the iPhone has 3G coverage. Then you have an iPhone equivalent. VoIP on WiFi is not the same thing. Interesting guide, but inaccurate.
- kinggimped, on 04/10/2009, -0/+2Pretty sure the article mentions that you can, so long as you find a working mic for the 1G. There's a 1G compatible mic linked from the article. You need to use the docking slot rather than the headphone port.
- larrimer7, on 04/10/2009, -1/+3well done
- TVarmy, on 04/10/2009, -1/+3I read somewhere that the newer (shiny back) iPod touch will support Bluetooth for acting as a headset for a phone with the 3.0 OS update, ie you wear the iPhone headphones and use the iPod touch like it's your phone, while you just keep your cheaper phone in range.
I don't really know the specifics, though, like if it will support dialing, access to the phone's data network, contact transfer, or SMS, which I'm pretty sure not every Bluetooth phone supports, either. I also don't know if it could access the phone and a bluetooth headset at the same time for handsfree use with the iPhone's features (maybe it's beyond the chip's ability). An app might be able to add features not built in to the OS, if the Bluetooth stack isn't too weird.
Plus, I'll just say now that this isn't 100% free, as you need to already have a cell phone with service and Bluetooth (who doesn't these days?), and the OS upgrade will be $10 if you already own the iPod touch (BS, I know). And there's the headset... - cslawren, on 04/10/2009, -1/+2Um...does this work on 1G iPod Touches? I'm pretty sure it doesn't...
- innuendo, on 04/10/2009, -0/+1Cslawren: Considering the 1G I-Touch has no mic inputs, I highly doubt it would work
- evergrim, on 04/10/2009, -2/+3Q: "So what are you waiting for?"
A: The warranty to expire. - MysticMist, on 04/10/2009, -1/+2Did anyone forget the camera?
