- JinnRikki, on 07/19/2008, -1/+25It will take pictures underwater too! Wait... oh no!
- krete, on 07/19/2008, -8/+23Lame
- sab0tage, on 07/19/2008, -2/+16Not really a bug is it, since it's an expected consequence of:
1. Apple putting a sub-par CMOS sensor in the phone.
2. Moving the phone around. - kd420, on 07/19/2008, -1/+11You know, there's a lot of useless iPhone stuff that hits the frontpage, but this one was pretty good. I don't have and iPhone or plan on getting one (I'm in Canada) but these pictures are pretty cool.
- DeathRay2K, on 07/19/2008, -1/+9I have a crappy camera that does this as well, it's not uncommon for cheap cameras to be messed up like this.
- TheBigBad, on 07/19/2008, -1/+6Distorted and Psychedelic? Is that the new phrase for ***** pictures taken by the sub-par camera in the iphone these days?
- RedHerringHack, on 07/19/2008, -0/+4It is the scan rate of the camera sensor. All digital cameras have finite scan rates. Even my very high end camera will do the same thing. Try taking pictures out the side window of your car when you are driving. telephone poles come out at 45 degree angles.
- ZephyrNinety, on 07/19/2008, -0/+3Why you are dugg down, I will never know. lol
- Sabin, on 07/19/2008, -0/+3its funny that the majority of Canadians talk about the iphone as if it is something that is still unobtainable.
- Mootabolife, on 07/19/2008, -1/+4Using an i-phone! Wow that is entirely relevent now and completely invalidates the fact that your comment is a shameless ad! ++++Digg!!!
/sarcasm - Sabin, on 07/19/2008, -0/+3Actually the distorted image is somewhat unique to the iPhone. Maybe you should read the article first next time you try to comment.
- megamod, on 07/19/2008, -0/+3it works with almost any cell phone cam...at least it does with my Sony Ericson W850i.
- WaveRunningNakd, on 07/19/2008, -1/+4If Rogers was the exclusive carrier here the US, I wouldn't get one either.
That company makes AT&T (bad) or Verizon (worse) look like Google (good). - DelMonte, on 07/19/2008, -0/+3Thank you jabberwolf for reminding us that this iPhone camera BUG is also present on "any ***** camera phone".
- notadiggtard, on 07/19/2008, -0/+2Actually he gave the opposite impression. You saved me the trouble
- thebza451, on 07/19/2008, -0/+2the thing about the iphone is that it doesn't take the picture when you press the photo button, it actually does it when you release it... thought i'd share that since the author never mentioned it.
- Dozernotz, on 07/20/2008, -0/+2Only difference is that any other crap camera would have been laughed at for such a flaw, but with the iPhone it's suddenly an "opportunity to explore new creative spaces."
The world must burn. - mookiemoomoo, on 07/21/2008, -0/+1Couldn't care less whether it's newly found out or if you are able to do it on every camera in the world, it's fun!
- ijacker, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1does anyone have the link to the apache helicopter flyby in Iraq?
the blades were all distorted from cmos lag. - inactive, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1Great effect :)

- Harringstone, on 07/21/2008, -0/+1my qualms are not with the iphones camera... but with this guy taking pictures of little kids on the beach...wtf?
- yourbrokenoven, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1This actually works on all digital cameras I've owned and is not really a "bug." It's just the nature of how the image is captured.
- Galaxylander, on 07/19/2008, -1/+2Apple never called it a feature, WIRED jokingly did saying it was funky. Don't be a douche.
- magicmarc, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1Dude, I'm in the UK, and even I know that AT&T are bad and Google are good!
- donna1234, on 11/08/2008, -0/+1 the iPhone camera has a bug

http://www.alobre.info - HappyScrappy, on 07/19/2008, -1/+2It's called "rolling shutter artifact" and virtually all phone cameras have this problem. It's pretty telling Wired wrote this up as being about iPhone when this problem has been around a lot longer.
As another mention, the vaunted RED ONE camera has this problem too, and I can't understand how anyone puts up with it on a $5,000 camera. - Sabin, on 07/19/2008, -0/+1You might just be retarded
- uracre, on 07/20/2008, -0/+1No.

- prprincessla, on 01/15/2009, -0/+1whatever if it makes the pics look cool who cares jeez you people are so cynical!
- Zaxcomp, on 07/19/2008, -6/+6Yea, you are right, it is a tech news site. Who would imagine that newest pieces of tech on the market are what the news is about now.
- krnldmp, on 07/19/2008, -1/+1Why not just leave the piece of ***** off until you need it for something.
- amandanoelle, on 07/19/2008, -3/+3Sorry, mine is the better than any shown in the article...

- SuperJimmyJimbo, on 07/19/2008, -1/+1relax, i was kidding
- StabbyClaus, on 07/19/2008, -1/+0I do this all the time on my iphone. its fun for sure
- DaleoftheUK, on 07/20/2008, -2/+1It's a feature!
My iphone pics always look like this, probably because the camera in it is *****. - Kakemonstere, on 07/19/2008, -15/+14Buried. This is not an iPhone forum!
- RyFo18, on 07/19/2008, -4/+2"While taking pictures on the beach in Waikiki, I discovered that one of these accidental pictures featured a bizarrely distorted image of a couple of kids playing on the beach."
Buried for the guy being a sexual predator...... - leamanc, on 07/19/2008, -6/+3So if you move your camera really fast while the shutter is open, you'll get a blurred, distorted photo. Not exclusively an iPhone thing here, folks.
- sykotic, on 07/19/2008, -4/+1Next time on Digg, how to take "motion shots" on any digital camera!
- chrup, on 07/19/2008, -5/+1Cute
- Ramble, on 07/19/2008, -8/+3Only could an Apple fanboy take an obvious flaw and twist it into a feature.
- wonkavsn, on 07/19/2008, -6/+12.0 Pwnagetool tomorrow!
- SuperJimmyJimbo, on 07/19/2008, -11/+5so the CMOS blur wasn't an inherent issue, its a FEATURE?! classy, , classy...
