- roxgod666, on 12/13/2008, -7/+119Digg is slowly coming back to being a tech site. Finally the political garbage left!!!
- yacinebouatrous, on 12/13/2008, -18/+81so now it's pointless to buy 4000$ hardware, the church's gonna be pissed
- inactive, on 12/13/2008, -5/+44osx86 is going mainstream... ;)
- inactive, on 12/13/2008, -0/+34Honestly, I thought it would be a lot harder than that.
- ScotchInBox, on 12/13/2008, -0/+23Wondering how the performance is? I love OSX but for a netbook I'd probably go the Linux route just so I had a good excuse to use something different...
- jasmus, on 12/14/2008, -5/+23The regular macbook is far from a piece of *****. It's also far from the best available laptop either, but it's nowhere near the worst.
- bhavinp, on 12/14/2008, -0/+18This guy will mysteriously disappear very soon.
- u8myfoood, on 12/14/2008, -0/+17Or just download the prepatched ISO off of TPB or any other torrent site
- haikuFU, on 12/13/2008, -0/+17I can see this being very useful for vacations where I don't want to bring a $2500 MBP with and hope the safe in the room is large enough to hold it.
- NathanCH, on 12/14/2008, -12/+29$4000*
and by $4000 you really mean $1000. - haikuFU, on 12/13/2008, -0/+16They already have added it. OSX86 replaces the parts of the OS that have it.
- u8myfoood, on 12/14/2008, -6/+20Holy cow! When did their prices drop so low????!?!?!?!?!
/s - inactive, on 12/14/2008, -2/+15If the Air gives us any hint an Apple branded netbook will be ridiculously expensive.
- tracywood, on 12/14/2008, -3/+15Performance on my Lenovo S10 running OS X 10.5.5 is close to my 18 month old MacBook Pro.
I LOVE it. But if Apple made a laptop this size, I would buy it for twice the price without hesitation. After buying my first PC in 10 years, I am shockingly reminded of the truth of "you get what you pay for". The S10 is the best netbook, but it's a piece of plastic noisy junk compared to my Mac. - inactive, on 12/14/2008, -2/+13Must...not...make...obvious...comment...
- AirRaven, on 12/14/2008, -0/+11@Fleminator:
Meaning that if you put an Apple Label onto the computer in question, you're sorted?
*Sweet*. A use for those Apple stickers that come with the iPod! - nibkey, on 12/14/2008, -0/+11If Steve Jobs ran for president, Digg would break and maybe take down teh intarnets with it. Hell, even the mere speculation would kill it. It would be the www perfect storm. Starring George Clooney as Steve Jobs, in a polo.
- UsmanB87, on 12/14/2008, -1/+11i have the same question... i have a eee1000 and this'll really piss my room-mate off.
- compgeek, on 12/13/2008, -1/+11This is awesome. Not a mac zealot but I really do like how easy OS X is to use for most day to day tasks (owned an emac briefly). I can forsee this killing off a lot of macbook air sales for people that just want it for portability. great video and I really want an MSI wind now lol
- LukeBeaumont, on 12/14/2008, -0/+10Doesn't work properly. I blocked politics and people just submit their ***** in other categories.
- rimantas, on 12/14/2008, -0/+9No. They are not interested in market share for the shares sake itself. It means lower margins, it means headaches with all the third party hardware support. It is just not worth it.
- tracywood, on 12/14/2008, -0/+9over9k is incorrect. I have OS X running on a Lenovo S10, even typing this comment on it running OS X right now, and I have applied ALL updates through Software Update just fine.
- techdever, on 12/13/2008, -17/+26vote for Ron Paul!
- tracywood, on 12/14/2008, -3/+12Install OS X on the Lenovoi S10 here:
http://s10lenovo.com./viewforum.php?f=15
It's a considerably better machine, and I am typing this comment on one right now, running OS X 10.5.5.
And yes, I can update through SoftwareUpdate as per normal. It's more stable than my MacBook Pro. - miguelsan22, on 12/14/2008, -1/+9I'm writing this comment from my OSX powered Wind.
- onemillion, on 12/14/2008, -1/+9If I own a licensed copy of Mac OS X (I do), and if I were not already using it, would this still be illegal?
- CoreyTamas, on 12/14/2008, -0/+8There's no grey area. You're not allowed to, legally speaking.
Do you care? That's a different question. - CoreyTamas, on 12/14/2008, -2/+10At least he's only half a troll. The full troll will also say "...and you can get an equivalent PC for $500."
- CoreyTamas, on 12/14/2008, -3/+10Your point sure has a lot more traction when you overestimate the cost of the Mac and how closely an Asus EeePC's performance can compare.
Problem is... without those little exaggerations, it lacks the home run feel. - Wandel, on 12/14/2008, -1/+8Didn't Apple put something about you not being allowed to run OS X on non-Apple hardware in the EULA?
- miguelsan22, on 12/14/2008, -0/+7I've owned a powerbook G4 1.67 and the performance is very close to that if not faster. The video is very smooth. It also runs vmware fusion like a champ with no issues.
- u8myfoood, on 12/14/2008, -0/+6Let's not...
- MAGZine, on 12/14/2008, -0/+6Doesn't work when tech articles just plain arn't submitted to Digg/don't get promoted.
- inactive, on 12/14/2008, -4/+10You're a ***** idiot. The powerful Mac Pro that has at least a grand in server processors is only like $1800 on eBay.
- jasmus, on 12/14/2008, -5/+11I honestly think Apple will intend the iPhone to be their "Netbook" style device. Eventually a few add-ons (like a proper keyboard) would make it jsut as usefull as a small laptop.
- inactive, on 12/14/2008, -1/+7Isnt there a NES emulator that runs right off of a USB key or something for the PS3?
- CoreyTamas, on 12/14/2008, -1/+7It is, yes... but it just barely qualifies as one. In every area where netbooks are known to excel (i.e. low price point, small physical footprint, light OS optimized for speed, etc.), the Macbook Air fails to out-class its competition. For that reason it still bears a closer relationship to standard laptops than it does to machines typically referred to as "netbooks."
- c010rb1indusa, on 12/14/2008, -1/+7Just wait till midterm elections
- inactive, on 12/14/2008, -0/+6Maybe because you like OSX better than Linux and Windows? Ya think?
- mikeophile, on 12/14/2008, -4/+10Except I can copy and paste on my small laptop.
- g4blows, on 12/14/2008, -0/+5Realtek just released drivers for the wifi card in it so there is no need to replace the wifi card now
- CoreyTamas, on 12/14/2008, -0/+5You *can* use it. You're not *allowed* to.
Apple doesn't use very harsh copy protection, but that doesn't mean you have permission to use the OS on several machines.
Of course, everyone in the entire world *does*. I'm just pointing out what the agreement stipulates. - tracywood, on 12/14/2008, -0/+5Wrong, I have OS X on the Lenovo S10 and I am writing this comment on it right now. You'd be surprised just how fast and useful it is.

- inactive, on 12/14/2008, -1/+6Digg has a "Customize" link in the bottom green bar at the top of the page. Use it to narrow Digg to just the topics you're interested in.
- jasmus, on 12/14/2008, -0/+5Windows is all about quantity, yes. While there is quality in there, it can be hard to find.
Actually, I work in IT. I use a mac at work, as the Unix environment affords me more flexibilty. I'll agree that in a windows based network, I wouldn't recommend OS X, but not every network is windows based.
You're showing a lot of bias, so nothing I can say is going to have any effect whatsoever. - Fleminator, on 12/14/2008, -0/+5"2. Permitted License Uses and Restrictions.
A. This License allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on a single Apple-labeled computer at a time." - CoreyTamas, on 12/14/2008, -0/+5Yep, illegal. The End User Agreement (which you consent to if you open the package) says you can't install on non-Mac hardware.
The good news is: Yeah, whatever. - inactive, on 12/14/2008, -0/+5The number of people who do this will have 0 impact on sales of macs.
- Demus, on 12/14/2008, -0/+5I don't see why not...both have Atom processors+good enough specs...google is your friend:
