- Fuelrock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very nicely done, looks professional
- ndm007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I could just never crack open a PowerBook.
- rspeed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1As an Apple-certified repair technician, I have to say that cracking open the display on an aluminum PowerBook is a MASSIVE undertaking for someone who doesn't do it on a regular basis. iBooks, however, are quite simple to open provided you have the proper tool.
- chingas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now if only he could color his Powerbook the old "Apple Beige" color...
- Triplewide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Technically great work. However, I don't miss the old Apple logo at all.
- giaguara, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Still the coolest ever hack for a Mac portable: http://www.hebig.org/blogs/archives/main/000818.php
transparent just turns me on so much more than the classic logo :) - eightfive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That looks abysmal. I think I'll pass.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yay!
- jpie05, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That is freaking sweet. Although I'd probably go for a solid green, red, or blue.
Dugg - LowGan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i would choose solid light blue...i love blue light, it's so relaxing, but very cool +DIGGG
- osxisthebest, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I would have gone blue..........or better yet someway to change it on demand without opening it again......although that'd be a bit difficult
- Footer4321, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You can get those swatch books from rosco... i have heard of people geling there ipods and stuff like that... gel is a great modding material... it comes in sheets 20"x24"... it can be found at most theatrical supply houses... just and FYI
- titaniumdecoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This page has been around for years. It's not news.
- lo0ol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Pssh, you'd get the same effect if you just use crayons and crayon-over it.
- Kryptonitfusion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0no offense to anybody...awesome mod...but the colors...and actually the white goes nicely with the ibooks and powerbooks.
- theanticrust, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I did this a long time ago to a powerbook I had at the time. 12" 867mhz. Although I didn't use photo gels, but printed on overhead transparancies.
http://img370.imageshack.us/img370/7125/img63893md.jpg - ndm007, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Hey, my user icon is the classic Apple Logo. However, it is also the colours if the gay rights rainbow thing.
- a99tandem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"abysmal" great explanation eightfive!
- osxisthebest, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yeah neither could I....to run risk of damaging it is just too much for me to bare.
- aznboi04k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0awesome.
- commongiga, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"awesome, awesome, FRICKIN AWESOME!"
-Carl, athf - tnoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Looks pretty good.
And thank you for not calling this a "Hack"
-T - theletterg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That was pretty cool
- cokebottletuque, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0that's so old... also why not just run a rgb led and a usb to serial chip to control it? then just run leads to one of the usb ports or Better yet look for an unused internal usb connector/a usb hub on a chip.
- superspak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i dont own an apple but i think thats freaking awesome
- kd5ftn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ahh.. the many use of Gel swatch books :-D
- matt0ne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I did this to mine and my sister's ibook - just red & green. Pretty simple to do:
http://matt0ne.blogspot.com/2005/10/red-apple-mod.html - frem001, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0cool, but i'd be too scared to open up my powerbook
- SenatorPenguin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I did this to my iBook the day my warrantee was up. Rather than gels, I just used slips of neon-colored paper behind the white plastic backlight-diffusing sheet. Now it looks white when the screen is off, but when it turns off, the rainbow apple logo appears.
- FunkyWitDaSysTm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0actually, this was on digg a long time ago. maybe a year? maybe less, but it was here.
anyhow, it's still cool. +.5 Digg, (-1.5 for a repeat, +2 for coolness) - recover82, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i like.
NICE! - CaptainBryan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'd do that if it didn't involve opening the PowerBook. ;)
- redrighthand, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I killed my backlight just replacing my iBook hard drive, I will never open up another Apple laptop until they design them to be more accessible
- Morph_Ball, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"GUY THIS IS NOT NEW STUFF go to http://colourfulapples.com/ they have them so you can buy it, i've already had mine done for more than a year, this guy even does costom ones!!!!"
ZOMG!!1!
I am inspired to do a red-white-'n-blue stripes kinda thing. I know I have one of those color books around here someplace... - pete0r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0for the record, they're stage lighting gels, not photo ;)
neat idea though - cobaltgrc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sweet
- Kuth678, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0way to make the powerbook look like an apple II :)
- jawsomemax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this was on digg twice already.. I hate to be one of those people that complains it was a dupe, but it was here a few months ago, and then made it to the front page about a month back. It wasnt this idea either, it was the exact page itself.
- Jerk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ anticrust
Nice jorb! Yours isn't crooked. - ManiacFive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's cool. Something I might be tempted to do to my ibook when the warranty is up, but i dont think i'd do it to a powerbook. they're so sleek and shiny.
- skwhirl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0give me a can of spraypaint
- diggnationdevon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice job. But the current logo is 10x nicer, so why change it?
- Deuterium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can't believe you did this! If Steve wanted us to have a colored logo he would have put one there. You just don't get it! Jeeeesh talk about ruining a perfect computer.
- iamdravenman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, a guitar pick for the iBook. That wasn't hard. Now if I could just find some way to open my PowerBook nicely. It's not that I want to "ruin" or "destroy" my powerbook. I just want a change every now and then. Plus I'm out of warranty, way out, and if I break my powerbook, though I couldn't live with myself, I'd be forced to get a MacBook Pro. Downside... not seeing one.
Still, freaky as hell, though, cracking one open. - exponent, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0or a better way to proclaim that you are an idiot that makes retarded posts on digg. Nice mod, ndm007. As for kaka, well.. you just made yourself look like an idiot.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0w00t! got my samples today in the mail from rosco! *dances*
- vaiomike, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0GUY THIS IS NOT NEW STUFF go to http://colourfulapples.com/ they have them so you can buy it, i've already had mine done for more than a year, this guy even does costom ones!!!!
- OOTay, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0i dont know about you guys but i wouldnt want the ghey flag on my laptop....
- J3bu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0nice but quite old. Thanks for bringing it to the attention of the diggers though!
- atheken, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I used this tutorial about a year ago, and got GREAT results. Instructions are VERY detailed, and as long as your careful, you won't break anything.
AWESOME JOB.
