- dregin, on 11/13/2008, -2/+18Videora is a bloated heap of *****.
That is all. - MacParrot, on 11/13/2008, -0/+7MP4 IS a basic open standard too
- jobobshishkabob, on 11/13/2008, -2/+8The iPod and iPhone versions are free.
http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/ - MacParrot, on 11/13/2008, -0/+6As compared to a regular bury?
- mrsteveman1, on 11/13/2008, -0/+5h264 is a basic video format, its the standard now. So is AAC.
- rusty_g, on 11/13/2008, -0/+4i don't see handbrake!!
- mrsteveman1, on 11/13/2008, -0/+4Regular bury isn't forceful or satisfying enough i guess
- weebs, on 11/13/2008, -10/+14How about not buying a restrictive phone and getting one that will play basic video formats?
Sure to get buried for that. - ryansimbalist, on 11/13/2008, -3/+7Frontpage... Really?
- Firespray1138, on 11/13/2008, -4/+7If I'm converting a DVD, Handbrake is the way to go, everything else, I just use SUPER.
- Zippo, on 11/13/2008, -1/+4VisualHub... sad they they've stopped development, but it still does the job.
- nickels, on 11/12/2008, -7/+10Solution is in there - Videora converter. Simple, free, does what it advertises.
- Leopards, on 11/13/2008, -0/+3For Ubuntu fans with iPhones! You can use Kino from the repository to convert video for use on the iPhone!
- chronniff, on 11/13/2008, -0/+2Handbrake is really the best gui for ipod/iphone/itv/iamgod, CLI tools get cumbersome due to each device having its own ridiculously specific video parameters in order to work , but Handbrake has a bunch of pre-sets for all the mac idevices and even for xbox and ps3 (x264 presets, but can also encode xvid) and on top of that they all work ..... good news for my fellow ubuntu users, Handbrake has finally been compiling gui and all, here is a good how to get that working ( This describes compiling on intrepid, but it works on hardy if you make the obvious edits to the code ) : http://polygon89.wordpress.com/2008/10/19/how-to-c ...
- svensksvamp, on 11/16/2008, -0/+2Handbreak SVN. The end.
- sl0ppy, on 11/13/2008, -3/+5Did some googling and testing this now:
ffmpeg -y -i INFILE -f mp4 -s 432x320 -aspect 432:320 -acodec libfaac -async 4800 -dts_delta_threshold 1 -vcodec libxvid -qscale 7 OUTFILE - derdrache, on 11/13/2008, -0/+2GOM encoder. Best one ive ever used (videora is crap)

I can convert a 2 hour video in 9 minutes on my machine *(E8400 c2d @3ghz) - mattyoi, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1Whats one that will convert real player files?
- ZGambit, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1I use TVC (or Total Video Converter 2 convert video formats) for Mobile Real Player. MP4 is the way to go - if ur doing it 4 mobile go 4 low quality because it is ridiculously quick and still good quality- anything bigger go 4 quality
If you download also Divx Real player (for computer version only) u can read those Codecs 2 and play more Video formats. - aenegeling, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1Wow. Completely missed one of the best tools around. Xvid4psp. =)
- weebs, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1Great, but it's ONE. Until that phone can play simple, commonly used video formats like .avi and .wmv, forget it.
- antdude, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1SUPER: http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html
- mrsteveman1, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1I suspect doing all of this crap in software alone would kill the battery. Unless something is different about the iphone, the older ipod video and nano used hardware to decode h264 for a reason.
- kotatsu, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1I use a free converter called XVID4PSP. Despite the name it converts videos for many devices now, including the iPhone, PS3, Xbox 360, and Apple TV.
It has subtitle support, so you can burn in subs to the video (useful if you like to watch 720p fansub anime on your console & HDTV), lots of quality settings and options, and it can even do M2TS format which is great for watching AVC 720/1080p movies on the PS3 with 5.1 Dolby Digital sound. Plus if it finds multiple audio tracks it will ask you which to use when it first loads up a file.
Best video converter around in my opinion. - cabazorro, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1Ok hot-shot, you have a divx video and what to crunch into your ipod..what do you do, what-do-you-do?
Install Fedora 8 on your PC.
Install ffmpeg (yum -y install ffmpeg)
Run command:
ffmpeg -b 1000 -qmax 10 -bufsize 8192 -g 300 -ab 128 -ac 2 -i sourceVideo.avi -s 624x352 -aspect 16:9 destinationVideo.mp4
enuff said - masterkenobi, on 11/13/2008, -1/+2imTOO has a good one. You can also use any ipod converter too, as Zune can take mp4 files.
- Rekzai, on 11/13/2008, -1/+2http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/device/ipod_touc ...
Best option - Elvaanish, on 11/13/2008, -1/+2Not sure why you're getting buried.. SUPER is an excellent piece of software. What VLC is to media playback, SUPER is to video conversion. It can handle anything you throw at it usually, and it does it well, for free.
- freshgrease, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1Lets say Im using a PC, and I want to convert a .mkv. That MKV happens to have 2 audio tracks, a video track, and subtitles. What software can I use to batch encode them while being able to select a particular audio track (Default = Japanese...I want English track 2)? Damn the Iphone/Apple TV for being retarded in format.
- moo2u2, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1Anyone know of a free converter that will do 640x480? That's all I want...
- Rulex, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1MediaCoder iPhone Edition does a pretty good job.
- belfastbiker, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1How so?
- stoneage, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1http://www.zamzar.com is an awesome converter. Does uploads and web (youtube, google etc) and can convert not only video, but heaps of other things too. Although it can take a few hours to get the converted file unless you have a paid account.
- hmunkey, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1It works, but it's *****.
- nrox653, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1Idiots... must have... Handbrake... IN ARTICLE!
- MacParrot, on 11/13/2008, -0/+1iSquint if you can still find it (made by the same guy that made VisualHub) works really well too
