Orange you glad I didn't say banana? - evilspoons, on 10/12/2007, -1/+22Drake, you are forgetting there's an audio amplifier (a rather good one at that), aac/mp3 decoder combined with the processing power to manage their stupid DRM, a battery and its support circuitry, a USB controller, etc. I still think it's overpriced, but it's not like it's just a metal clip with a 1 GB flash memory chip inside it.
- mwosh, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22Mmmmmm, Apple Porn.
- thadiusdean, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Some closer pictures would have been appreciated...
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -7/+24"***** iPod. What an incredibly overpriced POS."
I afraid there's over 88 million people who would care to disagree with that statement. - sirliam, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18I want the purple one!
- DurkaMcDurk, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18@3dom
obviously it is? it is on the front page. - spixgarden, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16I think iPod Shuffle is one of the best designed mp3-players ever.
- drakethegreat, on 10/12/2007, -7/+17Digg Nation just remember we think objectively about everything except Apple products and Linux!

- tont0r, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9"So why orange instead of black or red? "It’s just gorgeous," Greg Joswiak, Apple's Vice President of iPod Product Marketing, "
Thanks for clearing that up. - 3dom, on 10/12/2007, -12/+19ok, fine. let me reiterate. This should not be front page news. It's only a ***** colour change. Hate to jump on the anti-fanboy bandwagon but this is getting real sad. a colour is not a new feature. buried
- Gisterogue, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Nice! Now it'll match my Sony Ericcsson Walkman...oh wait a minute...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8It looks exactly like the other shuffle, except orange.
I just saved you some time. - Ludwig, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6High quality images of Apple's first orange iPod (shuffle)
Featuring high quality dust! - sluggoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The extreme close-ups are good, but I'm still not able to make out the iPod's individual molecules.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6industrial design that can handle that kind of scrutiny, and creates that level of user appreciation... is art.
- gallagherFTW, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4i like the syracuse hoodie, that was what i thought of when i saw "orange shuffle". then again i am from syracuse. however, what's up with the new ear buds? pics?
- JayClark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4That's fair enough. Like I said, I always listen to my music on shuffle. Even when I'm at home and I have 33GB of music to choose from, I just let it go on random (from a smart playlist). I very rarely want to listen to a specific song or album, I just want music from my collection and I don't want to have to think about it.
Maybe it comes from how I use my Shuffle. I don't sit down with it and listen to music as the primary thing I'm doing. When I'm using my iPod I'm doing something else and just want some background music, so it's not terribly important what it is, so long as it's from my collection (so it's something I like). That's another reason to like the Shuffle, you can use it when it's in your pocket or under a shirt around your neck, you can't do that with any other MP3 player. The exception is when I'm listening to Podcasts, which is why I upgraded to a Nano for work.
Different strokes. I just don't like the attitude that only an idiot would like a Shuffle when there are perfectly legitimate reasons you would. But then, this is the internet, where too many people think it's their job to be as abusive as possible to everyone who thinks differently. - JayClark, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5The Shuffle is essentially a music player boiled down to its most basic. It's a simple as you can get and still use it, and that is very attractive to a lot of people. I recently upgraded from a 1st Gen Shuffle to a 2nd Gen Nano, and there are times I miss my Shuffle. Being able to just start it up and let it go without looking at it is a great feature.
Now, obviously if you want more control you shouldn't get a Shuffle, simple as that. That's why I got a Nano, listening to podcasts on a Shuffle can be a chore. If you simply want to be able to take a selection of your own music with you and listen to it in no particular order (I ALWAYS listen to my music on shuffle), the Shuffle is about as great a design as you're likely to find. Near perfection, in fact (though I think the 2nd Gen is just a touch too small, personally).
To sum it all up, different people have different needs and desires. The Shuffle is a fantastic design for some people (obviously a lot of them given sales numbers). Please keep in mind that your opinions are just that, opinions, and they're simply different than those of people who like the Shuffle, rather than simply insulting them. - HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Orange isn't the color of *****.
- korehyun, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Can anybody tell me what is the obsession that diggers have for Apple??? Seriously, I love my ipod as much as the next guy, but it seems some of you are obsessed with Steve Jobs and Apple. If someone can please explain to me what I'm not getting I'd appreciate it.
- andrewpate, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6GO SYRACUSE!!!
- dep01, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5So........... let me get this straight........... slow down there cowboy......... it looks like the current iPod shuffle......... but ORANGE?

- JayClark, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"It just hit me that digg is an apple fanboy site"
Actually, Digg is a community driven site, and apparently a large portion of the community likes Apple. Democracy is great until you disagree with the will of the community, huh? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I'm digging it. I wish they would show what the new headphones looked like too.
They'd make loads of money if they offered any color (out of the 32 bit spectrum) for $100 more. Moreso if every color was only available once. - blahtastic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3How on earth did you catch that? Do you just randomly go around checking image properties or what?
- dawgma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Is this what you call iPorn?
- winnch, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5>"for crying out loud, this aint frontpage news"
It is if the community says it is. Kind of the idea... Maybe you hadn't heard! Want something static, go to CNN Technology or News.com. - Boondoggle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2And even more incredible, why do people take the time to write complaints of this so-called irrational interest? Hm???
- Boondoggle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Well you cared enough to post about it.. thanks for helping the algorithm along... :)
- subarumaniac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2*****, i think this camera could visualize string theory

I lauged at the brown Zune because it looked like a 2 lb. turd. I'm not laughing at the orange iPod because to me, it is a svelt piece of stunning engineering. - Kevers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Syracuse Re%

- comicalZombie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is the most vapid article I have ever read. Are you kidding me diggers? 214 of you seriously thought that "iPod shuffle.... Orange!" is worth digging? Mind you I'm writing this on a mbp, but apparently I'm just not *that* hardcore...
- Cardiakke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Oh! Oh! AN ORANGE IPOD SHUFFLE! Oh! Oh! something is happening to my private parts! Heavy breathing!!!! :-)
Unbelievable! - Boondoggle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I agree. I love my Shuffle.
- yfph, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@blahtastic
Well, I have a 4G ipod and considered purchasing the new shuffle for whenever I head out to the gym or go for a short jog; jogging with a large DAP that contains a spinning harddrive would probably hasten its decline. Also, the nano does not suit my needs as my collection of mp3s/aacs easily eclipses the storage capacity on that thing. I don't believe most people will purchase the shuffle to serve as their primary DAP. However, if some do, I would imagine that they will find its storage capacity to be lacking after a short while and will probably opt for either the nano or the larger capacity ipods due to any purchased tracks being tied to apple's DRM; all bets are off though if they come to detest apple's implementation. Still, I think that $79 is a wee bit expensive for the shuffle. - psyphen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This guy needs to learn what aperature is.
- davidtrent, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is so great to be able to see a picture of a shuffle in an orange colour. Thanks.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Heh, the UT edition iPod? Hook 'em
