not too shabby. that is 2 cents according to Verizon - Cruelapollo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+53[Deleted on account of me being an idiot]
- ihaveplans, on 10/12/2007, -6/+42My check came yesterday. I got $.0000015 for each iPhone story I digged and $.000002 for each comment!
- DelMonte, on 10/12/2007, -5/+39The funny thing is that the anti-Apple trolls don't realize that they participate in increasing the hype since they stimulate passionate discussions about the iPhone.
- flamingmb, on 10/12/2007, -8/+37yeah, but the iphone actually has a use.
- SpacedCowboy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+27@miniboss:
Um, you realise that Apple is a _company_ not a _charity_, don't you ?
Simon - Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -17/+39I dunno. I'm well-aware of the iPhone, and I'm still not buying one.
- fordicus, on 10/12/2007, -11/+30when can the apple fanboys expect their cut?
- scabbers, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21The Segway got a lot of free publicity through the hype machine too...
- insomniac8400, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17Apple probably had more people buying ipods from their iphone publicity then iphones.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16It's that voip phone made by Linksys and not, as i thought, the mobile phone launched by the Beatles' record label.
Oh, wait.... - Quix, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14flag, based on the thousand comments YOU'VE made about iPhone, it appears resentful trolls are adding to the hype as well.
Thanks for being an unwitting part of the Apple marketing machine! - shmatt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10don't worry, flag, you'll have plenty of opportunities to troll iPhone stories once it actually comes out.
- theskunkworks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10"No other company has ever received that kind of attention for a product launch,"
- meatmcguffin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10"i was calling him dumb for fanboyism, not for saying what *he* thinks."
Ok, well then i agree with you :)
"isn't that a really dumb statement? last time i've checked the most used os (not talking about quality) wasn't precisely mac os x"
I'm not too sure that is a dumb statement, well more of an accurate statement phrased dumbly. I get the feeling Vista isn't selling very well and it's only the quality of the product to blame. I remember the crowds rushing to buy '95 and, to a lesser extent, XP but i didn't see any of that this time around.
"i don't see nokia, motorola or SE executives jumping out from their offices, simply because there's no way the iphone can harm those companies marketshare."
Why not? Nokia and SE both have smartphones on the market and Motorola are moving into the phones-as-media-device market. Although, I assume, both companies sell more regular phones than smartphones, it's still a significant portion of their sales. - tonich03, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12It's good to be an apple.
- aspirinetu, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9"Sad companies like that one controled by the anti-Christ in Redmond are launching mediocre products that are simply getting dust on shelves"

"What makes you say that? Every phone maker went into a panic after that keynote.
Shares of RIM and Palm stock dropped heavily at the Apple launch while Apple's skyrocketed. Palm have gone on the hunt for ex-apple employees. Linksys even branded a piece of crap with the iPhone name to ride on it's reputation."
RIM and palm, ok. we're talking there about about a really new company (even when their blackberries were the ***** -in a positive sense) and another one whose main product is a direct competitor for iphone. i don't see nokia, motorola or SE executives jumping out from their offices, simply because there's no way the iphone can harm those companies marketshare.
i was calling him dumb for fanboyism, not for saying what *he* thinks. - sctechguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4How's that rock you've been living under?
- NSResponder, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Has it occured to you that sometimes when someone gives to charity, they don't do it as a publicity stunt?
Gates' wife wanted some respectability to go with all that money. Gates showed no interest at all in philanthropy before she came into the picture.
-jcr - MrViklund, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9Apple is the greatest company in the WORLD! :)
- windowsrookie, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7It's an extremely easy to use phone compared to Windows Mobile based phones.
- killdashnine, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Good! They can use that money to bring the price down!
- NSResponder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think that the G4 iMac came pretty close. It got the cover of Time magazine.
-jcr - heloo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4It will be a nice phone for mac users and an okay phone for windows users.

Besides the fact that Apple knows how to design a nice looking and easy to use product, everything else is a BIG hype produced by master mind manipulator - Steve Jobs. Steve can sell you a dead horse and teach you now to ride it. I believe that ThinkSecret.com is on the Apple's payroll. Just think about how much free press has Steve generated by suing the people who "leaks" the information about Apple's upcoming products.
To quote master Steve:
"it's easy, you just press here, here and boom... boom ... see?" - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5and this article makes it $400.1 million.
- tghd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wrong spot
- cleverboy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6@Elranzer: "I dunno. I'm well-aware of the iPhone, and I'm still not buying one."
The amusing thing is that you think you're "supposed to" or something. In my opinion, the biggest problem with releasing a great new product, is that not enough people even know it exists... or more, the product has little support, or community to share stories or problems with. The awareness isn't necessarily about whether or not you decide you want one, its about you even knowing to make that decision in the first place.
This is exactly the kind of article that feeds into a website I'm creating called "iPhone War". It's really interesting whats happening with the iPhone... not just as a basic "do I want it" product release, but as a multi-dimensional "road to war" canvas, that offers a lot of valuable room for scrutiny, considering where we are in time, and where we'll be 3 months from now, in the history of this product launch. It's fascinating. So many competitors are making manuvers on the propoganda and patent fronts, and the news machine just keeps whirring along non-stop, even without a product to review. It's great. I read an article that quoted someone from Motorola as being completely exasperated when asked about the iPhone. It's like they're almost in tears, not about the non-released product, but about the incessant media attention, and expectation of a response.
I'm waiting for Microsoft to fire-off Crossbow (next version of Windows Mobile, set to have visual voicemail). I'm half wondering if it has caused a significant shift in their development timetable, knowing that there will be comparisons. - iainwall, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2What?
Are you being serious? - alx1507, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1People who say the phone is 'second to none' are naive.
People who say the phone 'sucks' are foolish. - kualla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1and how about for all the linux users out there?
- MindlessSoul, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ dmsean
Vaporware? Do you even know what vaporware means? If you look up "Vaporware" on wikipedia or similar, you'll find "See Microsoft for more info on vaporware manufacturing". Apple hardly ever delays products, and they're always released if promised. Only recently has ONE product been delayed, and that would be the Apple TV. Not a lot of people care about that product anyway.
I'm not bashing Microsoft because I'm an Apple fanboy and that's their #1 rival; it's because Microsoft is the #1 most famous company for creatiing near vaporware that's barely released. Vista may as well be vaporware, because the finished product was nothing special at all, and it took over 6 years to develop. - dn11, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Hey, it's a good thing they didn't have to spend much on advertising, because at $600 I don't expect them to sell too many.
- cleverboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@sctechguy
Second quickest way... comment on why someone else's comment bugs you. [Sigh] sctechguy, who the ***** cares? Did you ever think that his name is an all too clever anagram, and he's being a desperate exhibitionist in hopes that someone might pick it up? --But, again, who cares? I'd digg myself down to cap our entire nonsense trilogy, but I assume the community will do its duty for me. Light me up, bitches! --And stg, next time, just say no. - SLuM, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Microsoft is a company yet it's founder donated billions to help others (hint he got the money by making his products good). All companies are business' but that doesn't mean they don't have to help the general public. Tell me, how much money has Apple or it's founders donated to charity?
- sctechguy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Ok, you REALLY don't need to put your Digg username as the signature in every single comment that you post. That's one of the quickest ways to get dugg down.

- itsme92, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4@flamingmb: That is the funniest comment I have read all day
@zdigger: Generally, I'd agree with you, but the iPhone has Wi-fi, so whenever you're in range of a hotspot, or are in your house, you get free internet. - Sewende, on 10/12/2007, -12/+11All that all the hype made me aware of is that the iPhone isn't that good...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I still think the segway is cool *wants one*
- aspirinetu, on 10/12/2007, -12/+11oh god, you're dangerously dumb
- steve_s, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Banner ads and digg aside, i havent heard one thing about the iphone. No one i knows talks about it, its not on tv constantly and i doubt it has 400 million dollars of free advertisement built up. thats aprox. 200 superbowl commercials at 2 million a peice.
- dagospelman, on 10/12/2007, -10/+8even more amazing when you consider that all the iphone had going for it was that it was from apple - as a phone it sucks
- meatmcguffin, on 10/12/2007, -13/+11"you're dangerously dumb"
What makes you say that? Every phone maker went into a panic after that keynote.
Shares of RIM and Palm stock dropped heavily at the Apple launch while Apple's skyrocketed. Palm have gone on the hunt for ex-apple employees. Linksys even branded a piece of crap with the iPhone name to ride on it's reputation.
The fact that so many companies released statements saying the iPhone is no threat just shows how dangerous the iPhone is to their positions as phone makers. After all, you don't see companies stating how the new Nokia or the new Sony Ericsson is no threat to them, do you? - Snoked, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4digg.com is perfect for generating hype, you can submit a link about your product and buy diggs, its perfect and guaranteed exposure
good stuff guys - imrankarim, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0as anxious as i am about getting one, i also want wait for the kinks to be figured out with the very first one. 400million in FREE advertising is amazing though.
