- Paktu, on 10/27/2007, -19/+82No wireless. Less space than a Nomad. Lame.
- Rikushix, on 10/26/2007, -4/+44It's funny how anyone with a first or second gen iPod is regarded as a curiosity; it's only four or five years old, yet we regard it as antique. Try to imagine what the iPod will be like another four years from now.
- drlha, on 10/24/2007, -1/+30See also MacRumors notorious thread "500":

See, even Mac "fanboys" thought the iPod was crap when it came out, not just CmdrTaco.
Classic quote: "I'd call it the Cube 2.0 as it wont sell, and be killed off in a short time...and it's not really functional." - BZKyle, on 10/24/2007, -5/+31Nothing is stopping you from buying a Zune... or a Zen... or whatever.
- JlmAWP, on 10/24/2007, -4/+22I don't know why you're getting dugg down, but I'm digging you up. I remember those comments....

Raise your hand if you have iTunes ...
Raise your hand if you have a FireWire port ...
Raise your hand if you have both ...
Raise your hand if you have $400 to spend on a cute Apple device ...
There is Apple's market. Pretty slim, eh? I don't see many sales in the future of iPod.

There are more jewels in here: http://apple.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=01/10/23/ ... - thepuma77, on 10/24/2007, -3/+18I want to play Monopoly on my iPod too.
- inactive, on 10/24/2007, -2/+17Taco? Is that you?
- ChromaVita, on 10/24/2007, -3/+18I'm sick of the Nascar Monopoly.
- mmdieterich, on 10/24/2007, -1/+15Amazing. Some more classic quotes: "This isn't revoltionary!
I still can't believe this! All this hype for something so ridiculous! Who cares about an MP3 player? I want something new! I want them to think differently!
Why oh why would they do this?! It's so wrong! It's so stupid!"
"All that hype for an MP3 player? Break-thru digital device? The Reality Distiortion Field™ is starting to warp Steve's mind if he thinks for one second that this thing is gonna take off." - HerrEisenheim, on 10/24/2007, -2/+16Why don't we have Firewire iPods today? :-(
- cyclonesworld, on 10/24/2007, -6/+19It doesn't matter with oink gone :(
- CraigJ, on 10/24/2007, -1/+10Yeah, I have a 3rd gen 40gig. with 4 separate buttons and a scroll wheel. People are like, "what is that?"
- JustinHorne, on 10/24/2007, -2/+11The capacity is 32 times, the battery life, what, 4 times, the thickness half, the UI GREATLY improved, HD video playback, WIFI on certain models, etc. I stand by my statement.
- ohhoe, on 10/24/2007, -2/+11Today I found my 3rd generation 40gig iPod in the bottom of a desk drawer, it's been sad looking and out of commission for 3 years now. Luckily, I walked around the corner and paid 50 bucks to get a new battery (yes I'm too lazy to do it myself.) and my iPod is alive and kicking.
I like to pretend it's a geriatric iPod and the new battery was like a pacemaker. I love my little out of date guy. - DarkDx, on 10/24/2007, -2/+10That != monopoly.
Go and read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monopoly before talking *****. - jiller, on 10/25/2007, -2/+9Cool, I share my birthday with the iPod.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/24/2007, -2/+8That's weird because all the iPods, appleTVs and iPhones i know play mp3s that are ripped from CDs or bought from alternative music stores.
Also, any Janus DRM music I own refuses to play on any media player not connected to Microsoft. Funny that. - gerbco, on 10/25/2007, -1/+7happy birthday... we know tha't what ya wanted ;-)
- Bdog2g2, on 11/05/2007, -4/+10Happy Sixth B-day my ass.
Mine didn't even make it 2 months past its 1st then it died. - JustinHorne, on 10/24/2007, -3/+9As a Mac user, I would love a Firewire option. However, the physical chip on the device is rather large, and therefore the device would be larger, presumably thicker. Considering the vast majority or iPod users use USB 2.0, and 2.0 is rather fast, it's not a huge drawback to just remove FW and lose some mass.
- superkendall, on 10/24/2007, -1/+7You just know that an early quote about an iPod is going to tank someones political carreer in the future as an example of lack of vision...
- theblacknight, on 10/24/2007, -1/+6Apple was still selling computers without USB2 (but with Firewire) not long before they took firewire out of the iPods; it pissed off a lot of people when they took Firewire off every iPod, essentially telling everyone to get a new Mac or an upgrade card if they wanted a new iPod. I also like being able to boot off of my iPod, and I don't think you can do that with USB.
They fit Firewire in the iPod mini, so let's not kid ourselves too much about the size issue. I'm not saying they should put Firewire on the nano, I'm saying they should put it on the "classic" iPod. - Bdog2g2, on 10/24/2007, -1/+6Haven't mastered the art of spam have we. No problem, I've mastered the art of the block and report.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/24/2007, -2/+6So, what are the *dozens* of players better than an iPod touch? Or have a larger storage capacity than the 160gb classic? Or have a smaller capacity-size ratio than the Nano? And just how much are MS paying you?
- tuxidomasx, on 10/24/2007, -2/+6i remember my first ipod
a gold ipod mini. bought at the university bookstore. we got to student-charge our books. so instead of buying a much-needed textbook, i bought an ipod and just borrowed the book from various friends all semester. it was SO worth it. - superkendall, on 10/24/2007, -2/+6Mine is still going (purchased a few months after launch)
- meatmcguffin, on 10/24/2007, -2/+6Costs less, probably. More features, probably not.
Come back and post a link to a product out now that is on par with the Touch - Tenoq, on 10/24/2007, -1/+5You fail at analogies.
- bigtizzle, on 10/24/2007, -3/+7After watching that iPod intro video on my iPhone I beg to differ
- Tenoq, on 10/24/2007, -1/+5We're all sick of your whining about Apple. Don't read the ***** articles if you don't like them.
- dragon76, on 10/24/2007, -1/+4Old iPods are new Time Machine accessories.
- 4ndr3w, on 10/24/2007, -2/+5Yes... Apple is really a monopoly. They should -really- let you put your music and video you have ripped yourself and should also -really- sell DRM free music, at higher quality. Yes.. they really need to do that.
- WiZZLa, on 10/24/2007, -2/+5The PMP300 was made by Diamond; Creative made the Nomad. I'm pretty sure it's mentioned in that Wikipedia link you provided, but didn't bother to read.
- superkendall, on 10/25/2007, -5/+8What's sad is you think you are some kind of rebel.
- codecomposer, on 10/24/2007, -2/+5I bought a 1st gen iPod from Salvation Army auction a year ago. It was in a bin full of computers and monitors that I ended up winning for $25.
It's a wonderful little gadget, even now. - luchid, on 10/24/2007, -1/+4Why would you want to record music off FM radio? Ever heard of ripping CDs, digital downloads or torrents?
- dragon76, on 10/24/2007, -0/+3It was a long time ago that Apple supported booting off USB drives. It was a hardware issue, so you have to check if your Mac supports it.
- inactive, on 10/24/2007, -7/+10Saying Apple has an iPod monopoly is like saying Microsoft has a Zune monopoly or iriver has a monopoly on their player. If you meant Apple has a monopoly on music players, you would also be incorrect...they don't even have a monopoly on legal music downloads.
- Firehed, on 10/24/2007, -1/+4No... had they kept it Mac-only, it wouldn't be what it is today. Love it or hate it, Windows made the iPod mainstream and absolutely turned it into a real contender. And it clearly worked out in Apple's favor. I suppose, indirectly, it's what got me to switch - which is almost certainly the entire reason they DID make it available to Windows users.
- vivsriaus, on 10/24/2007, -1/+3That IS funny!
- crugg, on 10/24/2007, -0/+2Why do that when usb 3.0 is coming out soon and can transfer up to 4.8 Gbit/second
- turpenine, on 10/25/2007, -5/+7wow you are SO COOL.
- Seidoger, on 10/24/2007, -0/+2I found my dead 2nd gen (from 2002) iPod last month, it's such a brick!
- Paranoidmarvin, on 10/24/2007, -2/+4A Firewire 800 iPod would be awesome, for those that have it
- Billions, on 10/25/2007, -0/+2It's ok, it's a post for each tear-filled eye.
- Christbait, on 10/24/2007, -0/+2uSheep.
Yay for ***** iPods, lowering the audiophile's standards for 6 years! - superkendall, on 10/24/2007, -2/+4If all you want is a checklist buy a sheet of graphpaper.
The rest of us prefer devices we can use. - spyofchaos, on 10/24/2007, -0/+2It's my birthday to XD
17 now. - derrickgossman, on 10/24/2007, -2/+4Creative? I still see their gear in stores...
