- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11A lot of people would just get the episodes instead of paying $17 a month for HBO year round if they offered the Sopranos as full episode downloads ... but it's just "Sopranos-related content"... interviews, behind the scenes.... lame
- dongiaconia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I hope HBO does get smart and offer The Sopranos on iTunes where its quicker and easier to find. And from their point of view, they can make *some* money from online distribution instead of $0 from all the people that will be torrenting it...
- cfazzini, on 10/12/2007, -7/+16Indeed, it said content, and TV-"related" shows. You obviously didn't read the headline or description.
- pkulak, on 10/12/2007, -9/+18@dewars:
Then how about you not copy the most misleading line of the article as your description? - FishyJoe, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Dumb not to release the show on iTunes. Just entices people to download it illegally.
- DCstewieG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7If Arrested Development makes it to Showtime I hope they put that on iTunes. I'd wait for the DVDs instead of subscribing, but I might just buy eps on iTunes if they were a subscription a la Daily Show.
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5HBO has been doing this for a while. The entire Bill Maher show is available as an audio podcast free every week, and they've had all the other content up for some time.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Oh man, I'd love to watch Curb Your Enthusiasm on the subway. I wish HBO could sell that.
- deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The point is for HBO to develop some market research for future iTunes offerings.
- readme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3HBO would love to offer their shows directly. Then they could cut out the distributor's cut (the cable companies). There's a lot that goes into offering content on the Internet. They just can't wake up one morning and decide to put The Sopranos online. There's many issues with rights, royalties, and residuals that need to be worked out. The technical part is easy.
- dotwaffle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3And still nothing of worth for the UK - if you're going to release something on iTunes, Apple, at least have the decency to release it worldwide, we're sick and tired of getting things a year later already!
- DesertSquirrel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The Wire is easily the best show on TV. Good to see there are other people on here with taste and intelligence
- Walking.Dude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I was ready to pay for it today. I was really expecting it be announced this week. Even a premium like 2.99 or even 3.99 a pop for the Sopranos (the DVDs are pretty pricey so the math works out).
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6whats the point if its not the shows?
- spade, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Any Warner Bros. folk reading Digg you just lost some income, I was willing to part with some cash to watch the entire first season of Rome. I've been wanting to watch this since the commercials came out. The wife will not allow me to spend the cash on HBO. Get your act together and place some of your shows on iTunes already. We're waiting.
- cocoamix, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3A bit misleading.
It's actually just "Sopranos-related program activities." - Dewars, on 10/12/2007, -17/+19I said "content" not shows. As for the description, it came from the artical. I guess you did not "RTFA".
- Yankee8156, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3If you didn't have such a misleading description, you would have one more digg. But you did, so no digg.
- ntwrkguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2In regards to the person who likes The Wire:
It is a kickass show! I think they're about to create a new season...and it would def kick even more ass if both sopranos and the wire were on itunes! - evildorko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i suspect this deal is bigger than it seems. just podcasts and stuff now, but i remember reading an article recently saying that hbo and starz were the big challenges of getting an iTunes movie store rolling as they owned the internet broadcast rights for something like 90% of all major movies. apple signing a content deal with hbo might be the final indicator that the movie store really is right around the corner...
- rjean99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I would definitely pay a fee to watch - I almost subscribed to HBO just for the new Sopranos season but I'll just wait for a VHS copy from my friend. (hint, hint - VHS is another way you lose revenue HBO!) It may not be high tech, but if it gets me my favorite show, what the heck.
- inaxdaze, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Arrested Development probably won't be available on iTunes since, even if it makes it to Showtime, 20th Century Fox would still own the rights to it.
I've been subscribed to the Real Time podcast for the past few weeks - if HBO began offering Rome, I'd be thrilled (even if they did the multi-pass option ala Daily Show). - felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Exactly. I was BT'ing Project Runway until I saw that it was for sale on iTunes - at which point I paid for it. It's not about the money for me, it's about the covenience and quality. I'd be happy to pay by the show for Sopranos.
- adamszymczak, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5theyd better put the Wire on itunes eventually.
The Wire makes the Sopranos look like crap. - chiller2002, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Isn't it about time they changed the name to iMedia or something to that effect??? No longer just music.
- strcmp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1To clarify my previous comment: if "Curb" is not as popular as HBO's other shows, HBO has less incentive to distribute it via iTunes.
- ryos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's all nice and sweet, but this story isn't exactly new either. HBO has announced a potential partnership with Apple in the last month or two. So my only question is when is it coming!? Should I get HBO just to watch the new season of The Soporanos, or should I hold off until it makes it to iTMS? Honestly I take lower qualitty iTMS video file over subscribing to HBO just to watch The Sopranos.
- DesertSquirrel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't think people are reading the article. It says at the end of the second paragraph "Complete shows aren't being released just yet." They are simply releasing podcasts of behind the scenes videos and interviews, which they have been doing for awhile (Entourage, Rome, and Real Time w/ Bill Mahr). It's interesting and I'll probably subscribe, but I don't think it's digg worthy.
- chiller2002, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually Showtime tends to show more softcore porn than HBO.. HBO does documentaries on risque topics (i.e. Real Sex series, Taxi Cab Confessions...), these stories arn't really for sole "adult entertainment" but also to educate/inform.
- MemeSlider, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1guess this didn't happen
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh man, totally. I'm not exaggerating when I say that The Wire might be the best series ever made for television, ever EVER.
- simd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here's hoping we see some of this in the UK too.
- SP33DFR34K, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sadly we have to wait till 2007 for Season 2 of Rome. From the hbo forums somewhere, they are currently filming the Season 2 right now. A shame that we have to wait another year for such a good show. Oh well. Yes that epsiode was a gore feast :).
- hackman7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2i would download all the seasons of curb your enthusiasm if they had it on the store.
- bigboludo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Rome is an awesome show. The episode where Vorenus saves Pullo from the executioners had some of the most gut-wrenching gory violence ever! Now that Caesar is dead, as is Vorenus' wife (at least it would appear that way), what's next?!
- mechengr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Have you ever seen commericals during a show on HBO???
I would love to see this... i would pay 3 or 4 bucks an episode rather than buying the DVD's to watch once and probably never again. - albrad84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1As soon as I read the title, I opened iTunes and was about to buy the episode of Sopranos from last night, but then I read a little more carefully...
But seriously, I think HBO could make a killing through iTunes, probably better than any other network because I'm sure there are a lot of people who really just want to see 1 show on HBO (like Sopranos) and don't feel like getting a subscription just for that show. Even though it might not be any different cost-wise in the long run, its just convenient.. - DesertSquirrel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't think it's intentionally misleading, I just think people are reading it the wrong way (I did the first time I saw it). It's a prime example of how many people will digg a story without reading the actual article.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yes, I've seen mostly porn on HBO after a late night Spiderman 2 showing or another movie.
- readme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Maher is there:
http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=98746009&s=143441
There's also a couple of other Bill Maher podcasts debuting this or next week. - scrambled, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It looks like iTunes really is doing for television what they did for music.
Here's to them adding some FOX shows in the near future. - nonstopdoc1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1HBO should launch something like vongo
- gronne, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Seeing the expressions on peoples faces on that show is worth the two bucks for me.
- strcmp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yes, "Curb Your Enthusiasm" is great. However, I get the impression that its audience is fairly small. I may be wrong, though.
- JustJon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'd consider buying HBO programming (not shows about the programming) on iTunes.
I'm a big fan of Sopranos and Entourage, but don't want to spent $75 and $40 respectively on their dvd boxes for 13 hours and 3 hours respectively. - OsakaWilson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1iTunes blocks people from outside America from buying TV shows. No digg for iTunes until they let me give them my money.
- OsakaWilson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Absolutely!! People who can't see the shows for free (people living in other countries) are more likely to pay for them. What are they thinking by blocking us from buying their content? Digg for you, no digg for iTunes.
- kimhuang, on 12/31/2008, -0/+0Watch streaming episodes of Sopranos online
