- porkstacker, on 10/12/2007, -4/+38Count me in for a SoyBookPro when they come out.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -17/+50This is old, Greenpeace already withdrew these "findings" and apologized. Marked as inaccurate.

- honkyman5000, on 10/12/2007, -4/+28It's probably healthier than raw spinach.
- muaddib420, on 10/12/2007, -17/+40is greenpeace even relevant today?
- Antagonist, on 10/12/2007, -11/+29OH NO! PVC? Isn't that what they use for plastic piping in plumbing? I mean what do these guys expect us to make computers out of?
I hope that they don't honestly think we should live in the stone age. I respect the enviroment, but we do have to use dangerous materials in our lives. The solution is proper disposal, not not creating these things.
The problem is China and India accepting to dispose of these things wastefully, rather than apple creating them.
Apple has bent over backwards to be enviromentally friendly, and socially acceptable. I'm kind of tired of apple bashing. I'm not an apple fanboy, but they seem to be trying the hardest to do what's right. - Ehrgeiz, on 10/12/2007, -13/+31I'm no "applehead" and agree that greenpeace is a terrorist organization.
- zbeast, on 10/12/2007, -7/+22Point of this story is. Please dont eat you power book.
Thank you. - macfanboi, on 10/12/2007, -26/+40Of course it's inaccurate, it's Anti-Apple for christsake! If Greenpeace pointed to Dell or MS as the top dog you'd see 1000+ Diggs.
- gotamd, on 10/12/2007, -11/+25I don't know who dugg this. Greenpeace nuts or Mac haters. In either case, just about everything Greenpeace says is at least a little innaccurate, just like that article.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -12/+23@ billpoly
Inaccurate because the researchers labeled there own research inaccurate and apologized... Notice the link at the top of this comment page being dugg down?
You know the link proving this article as inaccurate?
Which way is this being censored again?
http://www.roughlydrafted.com/RD/Home/ABC6DFDA-9DE9-4EA8-A269-65EAAB628676.html - daldredge, on 10/12/2007, -7/+18Greenpeace expects everyone else to not have the things the do.
Look at all the tech they use and how much oil most of their boats use. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+19I'm Windows all the way... Greenpeace is a terrorist organization. Their schooners should be blown out of the water.
- roosterjm2k2, on 10/12/2007, -7/+17No, he gets it in fact.
They provide money to the ELF. the elf blows ***** up.

end of story - schroderlesi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12who cares? who will throw a mac away anyway?
- roosterjm2k2, on 10/12/2007, -7/+16Greenpeace is a bunch of idiots.
I was on a Carrier shortly after the cole bombing. They kept comming up next to us trying to spraypaint our ship.
Now, we would have been within bounds to just shoot them, that was our directive. But we were nice, we just pinned them to the decks of their little rust-covered boats with 2-inch firehoses. - roosterjm2k2, on 10/12/2007, -6/+13Sadly, no.
I was the nozzle man...and I dont know if anyone of you has seen a 2-inch nozzle on a firehose...you pretty much need 3 men to use it. Nobody else but me could really see what i was doing anyways, other then the 2 other guys with down the deck. You actually hang over the side a bit, just "leaning" on the pressure of the hose.
We were supposed to spray "near" them ... oops...i kinda got reamed for it officially, then unofficially had a beer with my CO and laughed about it. - SoonerPet, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10"It is possible to use plastic without using PVC or Polycarbonates.... Dell does for example. It's just cheaper to use the harmful stuff"
Are you serious? It costs more money for Apple to use the expensive polycarbonates that last longer and are harder and don't break as easily. Dell is the one using the cheap plastics, it just so happens those cheap plastics are the ones that the terrorists at greenpeace think are better for the environment. They would have you buy a laptop made of sod if they could. - dusingaz, on 10/12/2007, -10/+17Agreed who the hell cares about Greenpeace, they are the Peta of enviromentalists. Lets save the earth and all, but do we need to burn down suburban houses, or HUVs?
- eggo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8@Absint:
What, do you WANT babies burning? Why do you hate babies? Those chemicals make us safe from spontaneous combustion. Think about it, how many cases of spontaneous combustion you have heard of in the last 20 years?
That's what I thought. - Eccles, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7The Hummers were burned by ELF, not Greenpeace. Got any evidence that Greenpeace actually did the second thing you claim they did, or are you lumping all environmentalists together?
- tthomas1529, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8hey man i love my lectronics, my life is indeed mighty empty. you have to admit though none of us really need this *****. what really fascinates me though, is the brand loyalty, that's the family i'm talking about. look at the comments above so many bashing greenpeace, so many defending apple. why? who the fu*k cares?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -14/+20Do Greenpeace activists have nothing else to do with their time? First it was advoction of waterless toilets, now they want you to stop buying MacBooks.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12@ blizzwatch
Yes ... your link proves beyond a doubt that there's no toxic chemicals in MacBooks and other laptops.
"How "green" a tech company can be is largely dependent upon available technologies and their cost effectiveness."
Can't argue with that kind of logic ... Mac's and other products aren't toxic because it isn't economically viable to be nontoxic.
/sarcasm - Goatman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9It is possible to use plastic without using PVC or Polycarbonates.... Dell does for example. It's just cheaper to use the harmful stuff.
- ModernGeek, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13If this was marked as inaccurate by greenpeace, and they apologized, then why is it still on their front page?
http://www.greenpeace.org/international/
If I were Apple/HP, I would be suing for libel/slander. I also don't see why they only targeted iPods in their "Trash in your pocket" thing, as all consumer electronics are going to have the same chemicals. Greenpeace is trashing a lot of names without remorse, it isn't just Apples. - fatnutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5First off, about half of you are just as FUBAR as this article because your comments lead me to believe you didn't read it.
They stick it to HP and Apple...while the submitter failed to stick HP in the title is beyond me...
This article is pretty much a ***** of stupidity, yes, but many of the comments I'm seeing are just as bad... - ewap8, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Its not recycling they're referring to, its throwing away/dumping of computers. Recycled computers are probably ending up in old persons homes/schools in poorer countries anyway.
- dkm201, on 10/12/2007, -10/+15All Apple douchebags, battle stations!
- Wiggles2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Penn and Teller are so biased it's not even funny. They have an attractive platform, in that everyone just loves to call ***** on someone or something, but I'm sorry- you Penn and Teller fans are being duped and manipulated.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Don't they have anything better to do? Seriously? Laptop computers? I might be wrong, but I think a lot more people own cars than Macbooks...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I'll buy a waterless toilet the instant they create one with a self-contained black hole.
I don't know about you guys but I want my turds gone when they leave my body. I don't want to sniff them even for a second. The Acme Antimatter Eradicator fits the bill. - roosterjm2k2, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Greenpeace funnels tax-free dollars to organizations like the ELF. Since GP is a tax-free organization we can see where the money goes, and the trail goes to the ELF. The elf has set fire to numerous factories, resulting in numerous injuries and the death of a janitor. Much the same as PETA gives money to the ALF.
Greenpeace even openly applauds the work of the ELF...the ELF ---IS--- a terrorist organization. Greenpeace supports them idealogically and financially, therefore they are the same. - pintomp3, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10it's about what happens with the motherboards when you are done using them, like sitting in a landfill leaking mercury and lead into ground water.
- soundguy, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10I love how the Greenpeace article had problems with the recycling of old computer parts. They're RECYCLING, I thought that's what they wanted?!!?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+12Apple fans are out in force!!
Greenpeace was wrong because
- the rebuttal cites two other instances over the last dozen years where they were wrong
- HP only recovers 10% of crap they put out
- Greenpeace are incompetent (according to the author)
- Greenpeace used data from the manufacturers about their products *gasp*
- market regulations restrict the worst kinds of crap being used and limit the stuff that's just really bad
Whatever kiddies. Apple rocks, MacBooks are biodegradable.
Retards. - Iliketacos, on 10/12/2007, -7/+11Aren't these only harmful if you're licking the motherboard (please don't lick the motherboard to find out)? And with all this exploding battery news, what's wrong with fire retardants?
- Kazrog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Apple is looking into other alternative materials:
http://www.apple.com/environment/materials/ - Cronus6, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Yes PVC is used in plumbing, because it lasts basically forever.
The lifetime of the pipes in your home are ~15-20 years.
The lifetime of a (ANY) Laptop (notebook w/e) is ~3-5 years.
See the difference? - Osjpr, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9If it weren't for environmental and safety regulation, you would probably still be using carcinogenic materials and drinking from a polluted water supply. All this ***** happened probably before you were born, so you wouldn't understand the depth of these protections in your everyday life. Ignorance ftl
- billpoly, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Anti-Greenpeace propaganda does not qualify as a rebuttal. All of the "information" that exonerates Apple is presented in the author's words - no links back to actual facts.
Nothing to see here, move along... Thanks for playing. - fallopian, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Not to confuse MacBooks with MacBook Pros
- Elektriq, on 10/12/2007, -29/+32Any good news about my ***** MacBook these days!?
- fjc8, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7I, for one, am proud to own a Hewlett-Packard laptop, and I'm glad it's made with flame-retardant materials that these nuts get so upset about.
- Eccles, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Blaming Greenpeace for the actions of ELF is like blaming Bush for the actions of Warren Jeffs. "You're a Republican? Then you must be in favor of marryiong underage girls to old men!"
- uownedge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I'll drink to that. Greenpeace is full of it.
Not only that, but they were wrong, they admitted it, end of story. It doesn't make any difference whether you prefer Apple to Microsoft. - aclements, on 10/12/2007, -7/+10Buried.
I may be a bit of a tree hugger, but Greenpeace and PETA are the two worst things for the environment. - inkhead, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4They said MacBook, not MacBook Pro. I wonder if this covers all the models.
Apple actually does care, because I know they've been working on Greenpeace with their new iPod packaging and to get the small amount of lead out of the mp3 players.
My guess is Steve Jobs personally cares about the environment simple because of his past, and his association with Al Gore being on Apple's board of directors - Antagonist, on 10/12/2007, -15/+18Here here.
