- BrentL, on 02/04/2009, -0/+41"you can manually set your location for elsewhere" ..perfect for cheating spouses.
- fabio1, on 02/04/2009, -0/+24submitter failed to mention that this works *right now* on blackberry and windows mobile. On the article they don't mention symbian S60, but on the google latitude page it says that it also works on that too.
I suppose he had to say something about the jesus phone to get digged up, but c'mon! google latitude doesn't even work on it yet! - ocellnuri, on 02/04/2009, -2/+24It's already downloadable for Android.
- swicken, on 02/04/2009, -4/+21I don't really want people to know where I am...
- eihwaz, on 02/04/2009, -3/+18Just don't activate that feature then, it's not that hard.
- azureskies88, on 02/04/2009, -1/+13This is not news. Latitude is already available for just about everything that isn't the iPhone. Nice try, though.
- l1nuxx, on 02/04/2009, -1/+12(wife) Your at work, huh? Well according to the internet your at The Bungalow getting a lap dance.
- bkrock, on 02/04/2009, -2/+12then don't share your information...
- woofers07, on 02/04/2009, -0/+10They should add some sort of 'ghost' feature, "yeah honey, I'm totally going to a movie and not a strip-club."
- notoneofus, on 02/04/2009, -0/+9Guess you'd have to use both the GPS and the accelerometers to guess the activity.
- isuisorisuaint, on 02/04/2009, -3/+12lol @ drawing the line. don't install the app, dumbass.
- WeezerNY, on 02/04/2009, -1/+9Poor Boost Mobile will need new commercials.
- Dubbsacc, on 02/04/2009, -0/+8Or you could just take your wife with you....
(Yes, I'm one of the lucky ones) - michaelsanford, on 02/04/2009, -1/+9Looks like Brightkite for Google Maps.
- dandelorey, on 02/04/2009, -0/+7already there
- smoger, on 02/04/2009, -1/+6not true. it's coming this week.
http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/02/04/broadcast-you ... - birdman14, on 02/04/2009, -0/+5i hope its not as short as it was for the PUSH service to get released.. maybe they meant sep 2009?
- cowboy86, on 02/04/2009, -1/+6Yes, but with less tin foil hats.
- enotswhat, on 02/04/2009, -0/+4Orwellian? to willingly install a track me app? it is Orwellian to use twitter? Orwellian is being forced to do those things.
- hardeep1singh, on 02/04/2009, -1/+5And I don't think this can work on the iphone in its current form. Iphone doesn't let third party apps run in the background but latitude needs to do that to ensure constant location updates on the web.
- megamod, on 02/04/2009, -2/+6I'm sorry for RTFA...and basing my comment on it:
"Latitude is currently available in 27 countries on the Blackberry, S60, and Windows Mobile operating systems via google.com/latitude. In the coming days, Google plans to expand the service to its Android-powered handsets."
not to mention what smoger said above:
"not true. it's coming this week.

SO ***** OFF - chipxsd, on 02/04/2009, -0/+4feature already implemented
- Avalontor, on 02/04/2009, -0/+4umm, you're right pw378 except that "Technology works both ways" How do you know they didn't set their location?
- pw378, on 02/04/2009, -0/+4No, you are.
- SPRFRKR, on 02/04/2009, -0/+4Loopt?
- AlexWiggy, on 02/04/2009, -3/+7Yeh has been on the G1 for about 2 months now.
- hardeep1singh, on 02/04/2009, -0/+3This was launched today for Symbian Platform and I've installed it on my Nokia N82. I'm not sure if I want all my friends on the social networks (my boss included) to know my whereabouts but hey it also lets you manually feed in that information so you can fool anyone if required. B-)
- zbeast, on 02/04/2009, -0/+3I already have a location sharing application on my iphone.. it would be nice to see google come out twith one.
- levitron, on 02/04/2009, -0/+3you're
- birdman14, on 02/04/2009, -1/+4yah, you have to leave the app running and lock your phone. Which will kill your battery and make your PHONE useless for 2+ hours... this app is pointless on the iphone!
- CTK14A, on 02/04/2009, -0/+3Isn't Facebook just cointelpro without all the legwork?
Back in the old days if you felt like keeping tabs on certain people or groups you had to go out and photograph people yourself, then draw ominous red circles around their face like in the movies. Now it's called 'tagging' and everyone does it voluntarily. - joerod, on 02/04/2009, -2/+5oh man my kids are never going to be able to lie about where they are like i use to.
- gametavern, on 02/04/2009, -1/+4"shortly"? Like, what, next week, next month?
- fabio1, on 02/04/2009, -0/+3i guess you also don't care about RTFA.
- hardeep1singh, on 02/04/2009, -0/+3Or your boss, when you go for an interview.
Probably your creditors too. - smartsalman, on 02/04/2009, -1/+4i need to install this on my girlfriend's phone...
- gerrylazlo, on 02/04/2009, -1/+4Ask not what your government can do to help you monitor them. Ask what you can do to help the government monitor you!
- recruz, on 02/04/2009, -1/+4i agree - i actually would rather people not know exactly where to find me.
i just had this discussion with my friends ... the conversations would get a little bit awkward ...
"Hey ... how's it going"
"Yea, I have nothing to talk to you about because you already know everything about what I'm doing, what I've done, and where I've been. So it is now absolutely unnecessary for me to interact with you." - scruffles, on 02/05/2009, -0/+2Since the iphone doesn't support background processes, I would assume this would only update when I open google mobile. For me, that would only be one or twice a week. Not especially useful. Am I missing something?
- CTK14A, on 02/04/2009, -1/+3My boss is already talking about making it mandatory...
- inactive, on 02/04/2009, -0/+2Nobody mention this to Alex Jones.
- inactive, on 02/04/2009, -1/+3Until your spouse shows up where you are supposed to be to find out you're not there.
- sweetl, on 02/04/2009, -1/+3digg for good feature, bury for title.
COMING for iphone, here for all the other actual smartphones. - ultimusgt, on 02/04/2009, -0/+2the reason googles doing so much for the iphone is cuz they saw what happened with the G1 and said "oh *****" lol
- m0ng00se68, on 02/04/2009, -0/+2I downloaded a program from the app store called GPS Tracker. This allows people to track you via the instamapper.com website. You can embed a the map on a webpage, send out link to the map, or even include it on facebook. It was free when I downloaded it. Only issue is that it does not run in the background so it has to be running to work.
- normalkid0615, on 02/04/2009, -0/+2This just in, WE KNOW WHERE YOU ARE!!!
- Dynamoo, on 02/04/2009, -0/+2Oh no, it can use GPS to send it back automatically. I have it running on my Nokia right now. Yeah, you can do it manually but that's a real PITA.
- kouchan21, on 02/05/2009, -0/+2yeah but I mean tracking is not the #1 purpose so Dynamoo shouldnt worry about his pocket-shielding effect
- Dubbsacc, on 02/04/2009, -0/+2I know, even being reported to be a part of the latest Android update as well.
- Aitese, on 02/05/2009, -0/+2Well this is where something is NOT important if it actually works on other phones today, but IS super important if it's rumoured it might work on God's very own handset, the iPhone, sometime in the future...maybe.
