- ilkeryoldas, on 11/05/2007, -0/+94why is this under Apple? we need a Google section
- thenome, on 11/04/2007, -3/+80Hopefully it is because this is the last pre-release Google phone story I'm digging
- chris9902, on 11/04/2007, -10/+63I see what you did there. You replaced the S with a $ because Microsoft have lots of money. That's so ***** clever.
- wileyAU, on 11/05/2007, -1/+36Remember remember the 5th of November . . .
- imikedaman, on 11/04/2007, -2/+34It's an announcement of a plan to announce their plans.
- grexeo, on 11/04/2007, -0/+31Technically it's a link to a report of an announcement of a plan to announce plans.
- mRIpX, on 11/04/2007, -1/+31why is this under Apple ?
- TyR88, on 11/04/2007, -3/+28Yeah, I wonder if he thought up that all by himself.
- eschompthis, on 11/05/2007, -27/+50I Pray, so those iphone lemmings can shut the ***** up already
- rock774, on 11/04/2007, -3/+24heh cant believe i am going to say this "cant wait for Monday "

- grexeo, on 11/04/2007, -2/+16OpenSocial + Google Phone = Interesting.
- polyphonic, on 11/04/2007, -0/+12how about industry news...
- hmunkey, on 11/04/2007, -12/+24What is wrong with Ms right now? No, really? They aren't playing the role of an oppressive company anymore. Bill Gates is the single largest philanthropist of all time. MS has stepped up to the plate to replace broken Xboxs. Meanwhile, Apple is making stupid iPhone purchase rules, bricking iPhones, etc.
- Optimaximal, on 11/04/2007, -1/+13Yeah, but did Microsoft at least ensured that people running dodgy copies of XP could still use their PC and recieve critical security updates to stop malware spreading. Just because someone has hacked software it doesn't mean the device should be taken out of service because of an update.
This means one of two things - Either a) Apples phone software is incredulously shonky and broke because someone made a few alterations to it or b) Apple intentionally altered the software to break hacked phones. - vwvan, on 11/05/2007, -6/+17well if it doesn't include a creme brulet heater, I'm not interested...
- seventoes, on 11/04/2007, -2/+13OMG THIS COMMENT IS COMING!
- krische, on 11/05/2007, -0/+10I hope it has wifi. Nothing would be more fun that tring to find Gspots for my Gphone.
- loconet, on 11/04/2007, -0/+10That is a horrible piece of code joke. Please leave your nerd badge on your way out.
- leexy, on 11/05/2007, -1/+9Why don't they just throw their weight behind OpenMoko (www.openmoko.org)? It's a pretty darn good project, but it sure could use more money and talent.
- JoeBaynham, on 11/04/2007, -4/+10I am getting tired of the gPhone, just like the iPhone.. too much speculation kills it and when/if it actually comes to light there is one people would be too sick of hearing about it.
- SirZRX, on 11/05/2007, -5/+11mmmm linux, it will redender fonts like *****!
- hmunkey, on 11/04/2007, -4/+10It's Google. That means it won't fail. For ***** sakes, the name of the company is an everyday verb!
- tnoy, on 11/04/2007, -1/+6Prepare to be disapointed with what the "gPhone" actually is.
- inactive, on 11/03/2007, -0/+5I'll own my own desktop, thank you very much.
- zennode, on 11/04/2007, -0/+5Up Up and away goes google shares
- gaforces, on 11/04/2007, -0/+4This announcement is aimed at apple i-phone users, or potential i-phone buyers. Announcing the google phone will affect christmas buying decisions.
- hmunkey, on 11/03/2007, -0/+4The prices are already too high. Investors are buying them up even more.
- pmisa, on 11/04/2007, -2/+6i agree !
- cedars1974, on 11/04/2007, -0/+3With Google sitting on Apple's board and as entrenched as Google applications already are on the iPhone, doesn't anybody else thinks that it is impossible for Google to release a phone right now? Software sure, but no chance of hardware going into the iPhones first X-Mas.
- SWGreg, on 11/04/2007, -1/+4Some say the story is that Google-partner Android will deliver news of an SDK for a new mobile OS -- a "complete software stack" based on Linux.
http://www.engadget.com/2007/11/02/google-phone-mo ... - tracydanger, on 11/04/2007, -0/+3Actually, the title implies that the Google phone itself has cognitions and that it is the phone making the plans. Apparently, the phone has some artificial intelligence, which to me, is a much bigger story that the fact that it will be announced soon.
- stevenup7002, on 11/03/2007, -2/+5Yay, competition for the iPhone! I think its time to trade in my ZunePhone, Ill rent a truck so i can haul it down to the shop!
- johnpaul191, on 11/03/2007, -1/+4the thing about Google is that they shift their revenue source to ads. in a way it can take the cost of playing out of the hands of the consumer. yes, we get flooded with ads, and that sucks, but so does a giant cell bill every month. i'm all for having a choice.
besides, anything Google does will get a lot of attention (like Apple), and will hold the other services/devices up for comparison. that can only be good for the consumer. before the iPhone, when was the last time the USA had a cell phone that was not 3 years behind the rest of the world? as a US citizen i appreciate this, even though i don't have an iPhone. maybe our carriers will start to wake up. - inactive, on 11/03/2007, -2/+5Aren't we inundated with enough intrusive advertising as it is? I rather pay and be free from mind numbing, corporate brain-washing sales pitches. You can't turn around without seeing an ad somewhere in public. Pump gas, at 3 bucks, and frikkin advertising blares at you from a speaker. We may like Google now as a young innovative tech company but I believe we'll come to resent their pervasiveness soon enough. Good riddence.
- inactive, on 11/05/2007, -0/+3Shouldn't it be free from mega corporate BS?
- fcukbush, on 11/03/2007, -0/+3This is nothing to do the the Gphone. the announcement is going to be about a package of open source phone applications.
- skoober, on 11/04/2007, -2/+5or Google News even
- nofactor, on 11/03/2007, -1/+4My bet is a mobile operating system with builtin Google apps and a public API that could foster mobile app development.
- groverblue, on 11/03/2007, -0/+3ha. the Getto phone
- Applied, on 11/12/2007, -3/+6Syntax error.
- lavarock09, on 11/03/2007, -2/+4Erm...google..in apple...
Goddamn iPhone! Just cause it's phone..sheesh.. - ByteThis, on 11/04/2007, -0/+2Bring it on! gPhone for all.
- nullcodes, on 11/04/2007, -1/+3It better have a decent resolution screen. If the screen is not vga or better it sucks. I am not interested in it. I use my phone for web browsing and looking up stuff, I currently have an iPhone and even using that at half vga is a pain having to drag the view around to read anything. Phones should have an 800 pixel width screen minimum (when browsing I hold my phone close up enough where even a 1024 width of pixels on 3.5 inches makes individual pixels visible -- the human eye can discern 1200 pixels per inch from 8 to 10 inches).
- xabstract, on 11/03/2007, -0/+2come on verizon, do something cool for once, i'm thinking about switching to sprint
- appetite, on 11/04/2007, -0/+2I am afraid of Google for sure. But I am more afraid of the companies that Google takes on at this point. Verizon and Sprint are bastards. I welcome Google to take them down. Facebook aligned with Microsoft and is already forcing developers into proprietary languages! Google can take them out, too, in my opinion.
Google doesn't have anything to make them a monopoly. All of their services are free and web-based. The only reason that they seem like a monopoly is that they are so good at what they do that people run in droves to use their stuff.
That being said, the moment another company or organization comes along with the same idealism and better products, or better idealism and the same products, I'll switch.
Google is raising the bar extremely high for tech businesses in ethics and execution. Their approach is to gain market share by making good free products and the result is that they make me money, save me money, or save me time. If they make a ***** on advertisements that don't use my info in a creepy way, then I'm all for them. - niviche, on 11/05/2007, -1/+3Just like the "Google Operating System" is not a classic OS but a bunch of web stuff, I wouldn't be surprised if the gPhone wasn't a hardware phone, but a bunch of apps linking any phone you want with Google's myriad of services.
Look at this this way: if you use only Gmail, Google Docs, Spreadsheets and whatever, why care about Windows, OSX or Linux? Same thing here: I would be surprised if Google were entering the game Apple-style with some new hardware + software, and not just taking over the whole apps side of already existing phone manufacturers. - inactive, on 11/03/2007, -0/+2An attempt at opening the eyes of teh iFans. But we are immune to your techniques! ahahaha!
