- apsk121, on 07/03/2008, -0/+40For a minute there I thought i'd see a native app. Don't get me wrong, this is good, but a native application would be so much better.
- inactive, on 07/03/2008, -0/+38I love Google Talk ... too bad people don't used it as much. Damn MSN/AIM bloated crap.
- loconet, on 07/03/2008, -0/+30Will I need to take out a second mortgage to use it on a Rogers plan?
- archivist, on 07/03/2008, -1/+27i wish it was a real iPhone app... not a web app
- WikiEasy, on 07/03/2008, -0/+21Right... and I gotta keep the web page open and not do anything else in order to keep chatting.
- afidler, on 07/03/2008, -1/+17Finally! I knew I could count on google to bring me chat on my iphone. Works brilliantly, ta boot!
- t0ny, on 07/03/2008, -1/+16I've been using meebo.com but this works a LOT better so far.
- turbo2ltr, on 07/03/2008, -0/+10As we learned at WWDC, Apple has developed a single notification system that 3rd party apps can hook into that will allow any app to notify you without having each app running in the background and pinging their own server which should save on battery life.
- zonovo, on 07/03/2008, -1/+11Well-designed. Hope Google to launch the Gtalk iPhone App in the near future.
- apsk121, on 07/03/2008, -1/+10Not to mention the constant fear that Safari is going to crash any moment and throw you back on the springboard.
- chamblah, on 07/03/2008, -1/+8yea, Google are the people to bring you access to MSN...
- lasombragh, on 07/03/2008, -0/+6For OS X users, Adium is solid for multichat protocols. Of course Google Talk can be configured to work with iChat as well.
- versionist, on 07/03/2008, -0/+6Who is noone?
- magicRob, on 07/03/2008, -0/+5Doesn't seem to work for Google Apps accounts. Or am I doing it wrong?
- wellyuk, on 07/03/2008, -0/+5Oh shut the ***** up, troll.
- gwgrayson, on 07/03/2008, -0/+5I hope they're considering integrating Google Talk's voice chat feature into the app. How great would that be?
- kiph, on 04/20/2009, -0/+5Whoop dee f**king doo. I have to have Safari open to use it? What a waste. I'm not using Meebo for the same reason. Give us iChat on the iPhone, then we'll be happy.
- afidler, on 07/03/2008, -0/+4Pidgin is great for adding all my friends from every other chatter, but I still love the simplicity of the GTalk client so much that I dont use Pidgin for google friends.
- lclemente, on 07/03/2008, -0/+4It looks like notifications are out of the picture until a native Gtalk app comes around. Till then, this is best just to start new conversations, not so much to be online all the time.
- magicRob, on 07/03/2008, -0/+4Works fine. I'm using it now, but with my Google Account, as my previous reply says, Apps doesn't seem to be supported.
- inactive, on 07/03/2008, -1/+5meebo.com is awesome :)
Saved me from a lot of boredom lmao. - luchid, on 07/03/2008, -2/+6Try Pidgin. Works flawlessly.
- compreal, on 07/03/2008, -0/+4does anyone know how to turn on notifications for the google talk web app? it would be nice to know you are getting IM'd without having to manually check g talk.
- xero9, on 07/03/2008, -0/+4Get some friends?
- mdoom, on 07/03/2008, -2/+5If you have been using that, why would you ask if its been working? obviously it has?
- znicket, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3Great effort by Google. Kudos.
- xero9, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3I'm wondering about something, that maybe someone can answer.. If they come out with a native iPhone app once the App Store launches, what will happen once I press the sleep button and put the phone in my pocket? Will it log me off so no one can message me? Will it stay running?
While it sucks that it would log me out and not get messages, I fear it will kill my battery if it doesn't. - WOWISCRACK, on 07/03/2008, -1/+4I wish they included AIM support like on a regular browser.
- mmilton, on 07/04/2008, -0/+3Hopefully this is the beginning of the end of the phone companies as we know them. Ideally we'll all use one network, the Internet. No more cell networks, usage charges and 2 year contracts. Wouldn't it be great if we simply paid a flat fee of say $40/mo and have unlimited Internet surfing, get TV, and speak to anyone in the world over the Internet. It's ridiculous that we have to pay for phone calls by the minute.
- AndrewWiggin, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3No, he is right. dugg
- MemoryDump, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3I love google.. sure they make millions and stuff.. but who cares.. they aren't corrupted!! and hopefully they never will be :)
- ramsinks.com, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3Here ya go
http://www.shapeservices.com/en/products/details.p ... - Gonzell, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3Unfortunately, yes.
- defunctlife, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2Yep I used Pidgin as well for GTALK/MSN/AIM and it is fantastic.
- Radan, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2I haven't tried meebo.com, but Jivetalk works perfectly, which supports both AIM and MSN. http://www.beejive.com/
- fearphage, on 07/04/2008, -0/+2Wouldn't it be nice if Apple had invented a non-crippled phone that didn't need hand-holding, special-cases, and 1-off solutions? Man if only there was some virtual machine that could run on any OS so that any phone could run virtually any application. Wait, java already has done that. Too bad Apple excluded jvm because then they couldn't easily and fully control the contents of the phone.
Limiting configuration options and usability to make something easier to support is not a business model that I would be proud of. Therefore, I am not fond of Apple. - BrendanSheehan, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2It's coming!
- ysss, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2It works really well for me, once you login Safari keeps the cookie so it opens directly to the speedy chat interface on your subsequent visit. If you bookmark the main page (talk.google.com) onto your launcher (home) screen, then it works just as well a native application would.
- Warbick, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2You must have fat fingers.
- xero9, on 07/03/2008, -1/+3Hmm I must have missed that part.
Now is there a reason why turbo2ltr is being dugg down? - xero9, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2Because I have an active AdWords account, along with a bunch of emails in my Gmail account so I don't really want to give out my login information to a 3rd party so this wasn't an option for me.
- inactive, on 07/03/2008, -1/+3It features a snazzy interface
- onefreakykid, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2You broke the Cardinal Rule of Digg: Never bash apple fan boys in the comments.
(posted from my Macbook Pro) - tom2275, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2If they could now just hook up the audio chat, you'd actually be able to talk on your iPhone!!!!
- kris33, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Try AgileMessenger. It's awesome.
- inactive, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1I don't really see the point.
- adriaaan, on 10/12/2008, -0/+1I challenge thee to a chat-a-thon! First to outchat the other player loses! (and the winner takes the TyTN II to run Android on it :D)
- iJump, on 07/03/2008, -1/+2^samefag
- xkorbin, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1"Google hands viacom..."
- adriaaan, on 10/12/2008, -0/+1Well they have George Hotz now, I'd be expecting quite a few new iPhone developments from them.
