- Skunkhair, on 07/28/2009, -11/+546To quote a comment I read somewhere, "Apple loves innovation as long as it's their own."
- prseal2, on 07/28/2009, -19/+511unbelievable.
- mdp8889, on 07/28/2009, -14/+494Remember when the first iPhone came out and they acted as if they were partnering with google, having them make the maps. Now they do this...
- rnawky, on 07/28/2009, -15/+411The Android and BlackBerry applications weren't rejected.
Oh yeah, that's because there isn't a company that oversees all the applications and decides if they're acceptable or not. - dinglebutt, on 07/28/2009, -22/+406!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- tinkafoo, on 07/28/2009, -12/+355wait just a damn minute..
How can apple get away with not allowing software which "duplicates built-in iPhone features"? If Microsoft tried to pull a stunt like that (..say, if they prevented other web browsers from running on Windows because the OS already came with one), they would be sued into ***** oblivion! - ModX, on 07/28/2009, -29/+289Thank god I have a Blackberry. I've been using the app for weeks. At least I have something the iPhone users can be jealous about.
- housetim, on 07/28/2009, -19/+279I second that. ***** you at&t
- asgardshill, on 07/28/2009, -10/+26716, count 'em SIXTEEN exclamation points in the title. This must be important.
- maxxell, on 07/28/2009, -6/+229Will Google at least release the app for jailbroken iPhones?
- inactive, on 07/28/2009, -6/+171google should block google earth and maps from working on iphone.
Then apple will have to spend billions making their own map database, or use microsoft (HAHA)
yeah block google search an gmail as well :D - 1uk34dd0, on 07/28/2009, -37/+199Another reason why I will never have have an iPhone or any Apple hardware.
- buddyw, on 07/28/2009, -3/+161I had no problem believing this.
- kkiran, on 07/28/2009, -4/+126A very big F**K you to Apple on this one....
WTF is wrong with you Apple?
Google Latitude and now Google Voice? They were talking about internet censorship (by ATT) yesterday and now your App store censorship - you are no different from the f'ing crappy ATT in this regard. Grow up and let people enjoy all services. We are already ponying up a lump sum every month to ATT (The most expensive mobile and data charges compared to other carriers feature wise).
It is time you release the iPhone carrier-free, we are ready to pay the premium ($450 which ATT pays you - the same $450 which is imposing these fu**ing insane restrictions on what we can enjoy on our own phones.........
Peace......... - morphie, on 07/28/2009, -2/+120Screw AT&T. I'm in the Netherlands, where voice over 3G isn't prohibited by the carrier (which is T-Mobile). So now AT&T dictates what I can and cannot use in the Netherlands? Screw them!
- paulsmith288, on 07/28/2009, -6/+123would the iPhone been as successful if there was no maps or you tube.........probably not.
- topstorynz, on 07/28/2009, -8/+116What's World of Warcraft got to do with it?
- roodammy44, on 07/28/2009, -11/+117Considering apple's behaviour in the past, it's very very believable.
Apple is about the least open and most anti-competitive company I've known. - annaswims, on 07/28/2009, -1/+107Google voice is free except for things like international calling (which is way cheaper than if I dialed straight from my iPhone). Google voice does duplicate some features, but it does far more than the iphone could do, like ring multiple phones from one number but still have a common voicemail, and transcribe voicemails and email/text the message.
- PsychoDeli, on 07/28/2009, -5/+103I apologise in advance fot the Apple vs Microsoft thing, but I have to buy Win7 without IE...what if Microsoft said "Sorry, Firefax can't be allowed on Windows as it duplicates an existing feature"
The double standards just get to me after a while.... - cruzweb, on 07/28/2009, -8/+100Here's the issue: With google voice, you can say "***** off" to your provider and not lose that number. Because of this, there may be some legal stipulations between apple and at&t. So even though Schiller may have approved it, AT&T might have had a difference of opinion. It also helps out jailbroken iPhones more than anything, also not something the bastards at at&t would enjoy
- rnawky, on 07/28/2009, -11/+95Pure crap?
The iPhone still can't....
MMS
Tether
Multi Task
Search text on a web page
Central location for all messages (email, MMS, SMS, etc)
And they JUST got
Copy/Paste
PUSH
Search messages/music
Sounds like a really advanced phone...
They have a commercial to show off how the iPhone can copy and paste, like it's a new thing. - UnclePercival, on 07/28/2009, -4/+86Seriously... this gatekeeper nonsense has got to stop!
The Appstore is the worst thing to happen to (open) computing in 20 years. - jimic79, on 07/28/2009, -6/+85buried for not enough !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- AndrewWiggin, on 07/28/2009, -3/+81Or maybe he has but it's still funny to think of Microsoft and Apple partnering together?
- inactive, on 07/28/2009, -3/+78im not bashing microsofts maps, im laughing because apple would hate that.
- HurricaneDC, on 07/28/2009, -3/+76Yeah, that's why most business use BlackBerry phones and why most developers prefer Android (because you don't need to learn ***** Objective C), right? All three phones (Android, BlackBerry and iPhone) have their merits and demerits. Don't be such a blind fanboy.
- Elranzer, on 07/28/2009, -4/+77I remember when the iPhone first came out, and there were no apps allowed. Apple said that third party vendors should develop "web apps" that run through iPhone-Safari.
Oh, the wisdom of Apple. - LumpOfCole, on 07/28/2009, -11/+84More exclamations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- gerrylazlo, on 07/28/2009, -5/+77Google vs. Apple? Digg will tear itself apart!
- Aitese, on 07/28/2009, -3/+71Why do people keep using this frankly lame excuse? What will AT&T do? Tell Apple to ***** off?
"Hay Apple, ***** you...get lost and take the most popular phone we've ever carried with you...good luck finding anyone else to carry it"
Or turn off all the iPhones? Apple manufactures one of the most sought after handsets in the world...who do you REALLY think holds the power in this deal? Apple who has a unique product...or AT&T...just another cell provider?
If Apple did it, it's because Apple wanted to...don't get it twisted. They made Google change their Latitude app to a web app so as not to be confused with the already Google powered Maps app...Now, who needs who in that relationship? Apple, who are using Googles maps, or Google, who could make their maps not work on the iPhone and royally screw Apple? Yet it's Apple making the demands...try and blame AT&T for that one. Apple is just being Apple. - rebizzle9, on 07/28/2009, -1/+68eh, you haven't actually read anything about this have you?
- MarkOfTheDead, on 07/28/2009, -9/+75Because microsoft doesn't have an army of baristas to make excuses for them.
- 1uk34dd0, on 07/28/2009, -22/+87Dugg down for having a Blackberry!? I'd never use Apple hardware because they try to lock everything down so much.
Windows Mobile or Android for me though all the way. - Jarasmen, on 07/28/2009, -11/+76Why are we shouting?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- RonADiSH, on 07/28/2009, -10/+75But im pretty sure its apple's call, and basically the caved in
- hardeep1singh, on 07/28/2009, -2/+62I think its about time Google offered all its services as one package to Apple including support for youtube and maps. All or Nothing.
- stickyman, on 07/28/2009, -0/+57I agree
Isnt duplicating existing behaviour the definition of competition? - Elranzer, on 07/28/2009, -3/+56"At least I have something the iPhone users can be jealous about."
For years, I've had copy/paste when iPhone didn't. Windows Mobile *still* has plenty of features that iPhone doesn't, even with the 3.0 firmware.
For example, I can run any app I want without jailbreaking. - gregdogum, on 07/28/2009, -0/+51And ***** AT&T.
- jackcrack7, on 07/28/2009, -1/+51What do you mean that Google didn't develop anything? Even if Apple developed the shell (which I doubt) it relied heavily on Google Maps APIs which were developed by Google. Without Google's part, the maps app would have been nothing.
- ProfessorRiffs, on 07/28/2009, -7/+56What's World of Warcraft, but a second-hand emotion?
- ehaugan, on 07/28/2009, -1/+49I just dont get it. They allow the Skype app, but not the Google Voice app?

- ScaredOfTheMan, on 07/28/2009, -8/+51***** you, AndrewWiggin
You knew you had it coming. Don't act all surprised.
THIS IS DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!! - FeargusMcDuff, on 07/28/2009, -3/+44OBJECTION!!!
- AndrewWiggin, on 07/28/2009, -4/+44Not really. Almost everyone loves Google. A TON of people on digg hate Apple (even though a lot love Apple too). Apple has many blatant faults, but I can't think of any big ones for Google.
- inactive, on 07/28/2009, -0/+35Sorry. I'm a busy man. I don't have time for articles with fewer than twenty-five exclamation points.
