Perhaps if people make better use of the comment rating system. Yes, there will always be flames and ignorant comments, but at least we can keep them buried where most don't have to see them. - weareglass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8The most popular browsers in the USA are:
1. Microsoft IE 80.73 %
2. Mozilla Firefox 14.07 %
3. Apple Safari 3.55 %
4. Netscape 0.76 %
5. Opera 0.77 %

Globally it's more on the order of 2%, and has doubled in the past year according to this article
http://www.cooltechzone.com/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=942&Itemid=0
Safari is the third most popular browser globally, far above Opera and Netscape. - bobclewell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6GoDaddy's sponsorship of Diggnation is what had me check them out for a new domain name registration and hosting agreement. But their purchasing page didn't work for me in Safari OR Firefox so I took my business else where. I said to myself, "Self, if they can't get the page where they take my money to work properly on a Mac, who knows what other tools and services that they provide won't be Mac compatible."
- neokyle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6No, of course they don't REALLY hate Mac users. Jeez. The title was only used to grab attention. Go Daddy's been great otherwise. I and other users on the Apple Discussions board were just getting frustrated with the finger pointing and ridiculous support suggestions by Go Daddy. Apple hasn't offered any help either. It affects Safari and Opera, so it isn't an Apple Safari exclusive problem.
- vinny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5There has been an extensive amount of troubleshooting done on this issue and it is quite clear that GoDaddy created the problem by changing the way it handles masked forwarding. The start of this problem does not correspond to any updates on Apple's part. GoDaddy is using a non-standard approach that Safari is not understanding (not understanding non-standard code is not a bug). GoDaddy needs to use a standard method for their masked forwards.
- jav1231, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This has nothing to do with W3C compliance. It's a problem with how GoDaddy redirects. Apparently, they're not doing it very well. I use MyDNS/MyDomain. You can setup and manager your own DNS, like Register.com, but it's totally free. I'm not redirecting any of my domains, but I am for a friend.
- jholdaway, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Its Masking not Forwarding.. Its like a sudo frame thing that SUCKS.. I had it on my site before getting a server (Forgive me).
Its the same thing that phishers do with www.stealyourmoney.com/wellsfargoscam.html appears as www.wellsfargo.com in your browser.
BRAVO Safari for not allowing such horrible things.. Remove the service Godaddy! Or remove the function of masking IE and Firefox (the websites will follow). Legit Businesses don't mask (i.e. cardmemberservices.com doesn't apear as chase.com any more..) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Web exploits that take advantage of holes in MISE - Lots
Web exploits that take advantage of holes in Firefox - A few
Web exploits that take advantage of holes in Safari - None (that I know of)
Web exploits that take advantage of holes in Opera - None (that I know of)
I use Safari - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yup i own 3 domains through godaddy. All of which 2 weeks ago stopped forwarding through Safari. I use Safar, and 80% of the people visiting my site will be using Safari.
Just bought a domain yesterday and u know what... I DIDN'T BUY THROUGH GODADDY!
Thats BS & they will recieve my business no longer. Not to mention, i'll be transfering my 3 domains away from them, and have been doing my best to redirect every1 i know to never use them.
Sucks to suck i guess. I am using Omnis now, and am thus far happy. :-) - galfridus73, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I own three domains through GoDaddy. Yes, this is a GoDaddy issue, not a Safari issue, and GoDaddy hasn't shown the corporate balls to own up to the mistake.
I am now going to transfer my domains. Mistakes are mistakes - they happen. However, when pointing your finger at something that is clearly not the source of the problem is customer service's answer, then I take my money and word-of-mouth elsewhere.
By the way, everyone, I hear that RegisterFly's forwarding does work. I'm checking them out tomorrow. - ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4ACID 2 was passed by Safari, it is a very compatible browser --- Don't act like this is a .00001% of a problem and it shouldn't even be cared about.
Mac users might be a lower % but we are loud and demand quality. - timbtwisted, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7That's not the point. As a WEB HOSTING company your goal should be to make sure your ***** will work with all broswers. Why is this becoming a MAC vs PC issue. Honestly any pc user that bashes Mac's has never really used one. I guess ignorance is bliss. I use mac linux and windows. Windows has one use, games, that's it.
- zackmac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Summary of what we've learned so far:
1. GoDaddy is transmitting a malformed 302 Temporary Relocation header which contains a location of ?ABCDEFG instead of www.forwardedwebsite.com
2. This causes Safari, Opera, and even curl and wget to simply show a blank website because of not knowing how to interpret this malformed, non-standard header. These web browsers do not redirect to the intended website.
3. GoDaddy blames Apple and says it is their problem to fix.
4. GoDaddy speculates it is a Safari update that has caused this problem but our research here shows this not to be true. This blank page issue did not coincide with any Apple release or update.
5. GoDaddy also speculates that a Java update caused this problem. Not true, those with or without the Java update still experience the blank page issue.
6. This issue affects both masked and non-masked forwarded domains (Domain Forwarding and Domain Forwarding & Masking).
7. This issue does not affect any other registrar other than GoDaddy. Other registrars with the issue have been discovered to be affiliates or franchises of GoDaddy.
8. RegisterFly.com's domain forwarding and masking services are not afflicted with this problem and RegisterFlly has been suggested as a viable company to transfer your domain to if you can afford the fees and DNS downtime.
To summarize, recent configuration changes in GoDaddy's Domain Forwarding & Masking service have caused Mac OS X users with Safari and Opera web browsers to be shown a blank website when visiting forwarded & masked domains. This has been an ongoing problem for over two weeks.
The problem is a malformed 302 header with missing location information that GoDaddy should resolve. GoDaddy's servers are transmitting this information. GoDaddy should not expect Apple to resolve this issue when GoDaddy is the one who altered their service and changed their configuration. - stealthboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6"Undug. It is not a GoDaddy problem. It is a Safari problem. This should be OFF the front page"
Keep reading those forum posts. It is, in fact, a godaddy problem. - phill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I don't think that GoDaddy hates Mac users. I just think that they are like the other 95% of the web "designers" out there. 95% can't write a correct web page that uses valid standards compliant code. A lot of them choose Active X for their more advanced stuff.
But these days with AJAX and strong Javascript compatibility, things are changing for the better.
I'm a web applications programmer and I make sure that every page I create is valid and works on all platforms. Sure, MSIE really pisses me off, but what can you do... I just charge more for MSIE compatibility. - seriypshick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"I don't think that GoDaddy hates Mac users."
Same here.
I hope either apple or GoDaddy comes up wit a solution. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Safari rocks, but it doesn't work on a lot of websites, but that's usually not a safari problem but a problem with the website.
Think this bad? Try viewing something on MSN video (like this Howard Stern video I can't get to play on my computer)
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10341460/
It says "To use this product, you need to install free software

Now I watch movies all the time with just Safari and Quicktime - it works fine on 99.99% of the web. Exactly why does this site NEED Internet Explorer to work, when every other website works without Internet Explorer? I've never understood that.
Hey web designers - start making websites that say "Were sorry, you must be using any other browser than Internet Explorer to view this content". - jpjd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is an email from Go Daddy this morning:
____
Q: What is the deal w/Safari Browsers and Forwarded Domains?
A: Safari made an update last week (v2.0.2) that is causing problems with forwarding domain names.
____
godaddy your pants are on fire! - MacNTT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3No matter what exactly caused the issue, GoDaddy should fix it.
- panic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3On that note, they have crappy firefox support too. If you are signed up for their service to monitor and purchase a domain when it becomes available (can't remember what they call that service..), and you go in to update the domain that you want it to watch, you MUST use IE. I was pretty disappointed about that, but it's a feature that hardly anyone uses.
- NikF, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Erm... theblackgecko: "Safari not an open source browser"?
Try http://webkit.opendarwin.org/ - Acill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3While I do agree its a browser issue, they have done something new. I have had nothing but problems with my domains from them for the last 2 weeks.
- zackmac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Update! GoDaddy has changed their tune. This is their most recent email response from tech support:
"GoDaddy learned that some customers using the Apple Safari web browser were having difficulty accessing forwarded domain names. At this time, we have determined the issue is NOT related to a glitch in our service, but rather with a product supplied by one of our vendors. We are actively working on resolving this issue and expect it to be fixed shortly." - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i have all my domains through Go Daddy... but well, if they don't fix it i'll take it personal. my guess is that it will be fixed.
- jpjd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"You know, someone needs to submit this to Slashdot to get more exposure"
GREAT IDEA zackmac!
have you seen the latest post from Colin on the apple discussion! AWESOME! - neokyle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Nice summary. Much thanks, zackmac. Believe me, if GoDaddy fixes this issue, I'll be the first the write a positive digg story about them.
- Aussie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The problem will undoubtedly be resolved. I'm just now curious what will happen next Diggnation considering the item is one of the very top articles.
- jholdaway, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It is NOT a forwarding issue.
It is a security issue related to domain masking and DNS entries. Although Godaddy has many "Features" that use these techniques, Safari doesn't allow such "Features" as they are used by phishing and spamming sites, (With the exception of people like me who cant afford web space).
Be warned.. And if you need to go to such site, open up firefox (and if you 'get info' on a internal link you can find the real website and go there in safari.. ) - sfacets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You'd think that a webhost such as godaddy would make their website universally compatible... how unproffessional.
- compu73rg33k, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"Just use Firefox. If a company decides not to support a closed source browser which runs on computers sold by a company that uses a closed source OS, that's fine with me."
So you're fine with huge companies denying access to pages for people that use IE? - neokyle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Jasqwerty, relax. I'm just looking for the truth behind the problem, whether it's really a GoDaddy bug or a Mac OS X bug. So far, all signs seem to point to GoDaddy, if you carefully read the Apple board. You said Opera works for you? I'm sure it works for Windows users no matter what browser is used, but Opera doesn't work on the Mac OS X to access the specific sites. Are you a Windows user?
- peerk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It works for me in Opera/Linux. So it is a mac only problem?
- briguymaine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2it's stopping connections to my two sites when I use Safari. As suggested by GoDaddy Support, I cleared my cache and on my G4 tower it worked, on my iBook still no luck. I've switched to Firefox for now.
- KissTheRing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yeah I noticed this as well a week or two ago
- neokyle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Nozych, thanks for the info. But, the problem occurred before the security update was released by Apple. I, and the other Mac users affected, hoped the update would fix the problem. No such luck, though.
- vinny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2GoDaddy is now admitting that the problem is on their end:
"Thank you for your email. GoDaddy learned that some customers using the Apple Safari web browser were having difficulty accessing forwarded domain names. At this time, we have determined the issue is NOT related to a glitch in our service, but rather with a product supplied by one of our vendors. We are actively working on resolving this issue and expect it to be fixed shortly.
Please let us know if we can help you in any other way." - RenX99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think the problem is with their parking DNS servers... I have one domain that is on park3 and park4 and works fine.. My other domains are on park8 and park9 and seem to be forwarding to the parking page rather than forwarding...
- beejay54, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Our entire agency develops with Safari, if your site doesn't work of Safari you haven't earned the right to call yourself a web developer, go find something else to do! ;-) I think all of us on Digg are Firefox fanboys but it's still quite slow on the Mac, making Safari a desirable alternative.
- zackmac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1lol jpjd - if that answer from GoDaddy were true, how come I can't browse using Safari 2.0.1? LOL
- gbm85, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5You want it fixed? Contact GoDaddy directly. Posting it on Digg won't get their attention.
- zackmac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You know, someone needs to submit this to Slashdot to get more exposure. GoDaddy still is denying the issue and Apple is unresponsive (they should be, they didn't change GoDaddy's configuration - GODADDY did).
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd much rather pay for an overpriced machine....THAT WORKS
- n8br, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I contacted GoDaddy and this was their reply:
"Thank you for contacting customer support.
Safari made an update last week (v2.0.2) that is causing problems with forwarding domain names.
o Some users have been able to get to the forwarded site by clearing the browser cache and trying again.
o We found that using the Apple Network Utilities to ping the domain name will also resolve the problem.
Currently, there is not a fix available from our end.
Please let us know if we can help you in any other way." - neokyle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Starf1re, I wasn't trying to flame (assuming your comment is for me). I felt guilty about the abrasive use of "hates" in my title as a cheap attention grabber, so I tried too make light with a funny alt-title (an obvious and lame play on Kanye West's now famous G. W. comment). I don't hate GoDaddy or Windows users. I'm just looking for honest answers to a problem that concerns quite a few Mac users, whether I was originally right or wrong.
- f_favila, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No Problems here using Safari.
- Rand, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2godaddy sucks, plain and simple.
- barcoder, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I can't wait to go home and test this out to see if I get the same problem. I've been using GoDaddy.com for a while, but have been itching for an opportunity to go to http://dreamhost.com/. Maybe this will push me to it sooner than later.
- abhibeckert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This isn't the first time something on GoDaddy has broken in safari. With enough pressure they fixed it last time too.
- manfesto, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@kryptogrowl
Oh -
I misunderstood the comment. I agree that I don't think we'll see this on Diggnation - they're not nearly big enough to bite the hand that feeds and get away with it - but they're a separate company from Digg, and near as I can tell, Digg's only "sponsorship" is from Google Adsense and the VA funding. There is no reason for censorship of an article critical of GoDaddy. If it disappears from the front page, it is entirely thanks to ten members of the Digg community reporting it as lame for one reason or another - and seeing as that normally happens within the first few minutes of the story being up or it doesn't happen at all, I don't think this story is leaving the front page. - Tufriast, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3It's not a GoDaddy.com problem in the end folks. It's a "communications" failure across the U.S. that caused this.
Doman forwarding went down on a lot of company's servers for some odd reason. The whole thread states that at the middle portion or so. But in the end, eh, someone needs to fix it! People are paying for service. If it's a worm, or a DDoS attack of massive proportions, or a BotNet that went awry - well, do tell us! -

What is Digg?
Browsing Digg on your phone just got easier with our enhancements to the
