Get Yahoo Maps directions on your iPod
ipod-directions.com — iPod Directions is using the Yahoo Maps API and some clever coding to make it super easy for you to grab directions (and maps!) and put those in your iPod. Thanks to TUAW.com for reporting on the story.
- 1159 diggs
- digg it
- mattymayhem, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22So now all those people that look down at their iPod can see where they are going !
- solarwinds, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Put Yahoo directions on your iPod, and get arrested by the Chinese government because Yahoo leaked information about you to them. Great!!
- lane.montgomery, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9This is a really cool idea. There are a few problems though:
1. The verify part reverses the two fields for the starting address (like city, st zip address street instead of address street city, st zip)
2. It seems to be limited to only 10 gif images. It doesn't give directions after that, it just stops.
If they can fix those, I can definately see myself using this!- Firethorne, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Must be fixed already. I got 24 images for the route I tried.
- rlavigne, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Yes, fixed it when I saw your comment ;) Thanks!
- mojojojo, on 10/12/2007, -30/+6OLD NEWS
- tidu, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9I don't see why people don't realize this will just get modded down...
- Avius, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Why is he dancing while "listening/viewing" the directions?
- armature, on 10/12/2007, -11/+1he looks black. that might be a clue...
- truebullfan, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2very cool but to bad i dont have a colored ipod
- umdigger, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8Colored is so politically incorrect, that's like something my grandpa would say. Nowadays it's the "multi-spectrum iPod".
- Stormwysper, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12Too bad it wasn't googlemaps instead of yahoo.
- IQ70, on 10/12/2007, -13/+1Oh it just hurt your ego, aint it?
- VaderHader, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8true dat, DOUBLE TRUE!
- Dari, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Agreed. Google Local is my mapping site of choice.
- kiisu, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4seems like something that is neat just because it could be done...but no more than a novelty. nowhere near as cool as pacman on the ipod :) ( http://gaming.engadget.com/2006/03/08/ipodmame-brings-pac-man-to-the-ipod ) You can already get directions from your mobile phone, and odds are anyone with a video ipod is going to have a phone capable of mobile web.
bleh.- jdunlap, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1This is perfect for me for one. I need to go to various places for work around multiple cities and usually know where I am going ahead of time. This would save me from caring a big book of maps around and prevents using phone charges for serving the web on the cell.
- PlainJoe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I like the looks of this. Haven't tried it yet though.
Of course there are only 7 steps to get the directions synced up! Perfect for when you're on your way out the door. - CubiX, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3Great, but not very useful for guys outside USA and CA
- trejrco, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Googlemaps better, and still no help for my Treo :P
- timwizard, on 10/12/2007, -11/+8Dupe http://www.digg.com/apple/Save_Yahoo_Maps_directions_to_any_color_iPod_including_Nano_
- otherland, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11This has to be a dupe because my printer has been supplying portable Yahoo directions for years.
- shredomatic, on 10/12/2007, -9/+0Apparently iPod owners don't have printers.
- kilmer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I think I have one, but I don't have one when I am in a hotel or I don't want to pay the hotel for printing on thier printers. Good stuff.
- galfridus73, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Why waste the paper?
- Jrr6415sun, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5yea and my paper doesn't run out of batteries
- MegaSilver, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9My iPod doesn't run out of $50 ink cartriges.
- Jrr6415sun, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1then use a laser printer? on long trips paper is much more reliable, what are you going to do if your ipod malfunctions or runs out of battery in the middle of the trip? Plus electricity also costs money.. and you only have to print out one page, which wouldn't cost more than 1cent.
- umdigger, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I tried it a few months ago, but it worked like crap. I just copied the directions and saved them as a txt file and put it in my notes folder. That worked better.
- immure, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4America/Canada only.. Guess we in the UK are stuffed then
- SouthernDigger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I gotta drive 2,500 miles here in a couple days... Baton Rouge, LA to Oregon! This is definately going to be on my iPod :)
- eyepodder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2doesn't work.. Seems to think Toronto is in TN..Don't know why. Even picked Canada for the country and the zip file only contains a folder with no data in it.
Needs work. - smolek5228, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I found it useful. Thanks for posting!
- qwin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hmmm, do you think there is going to be somthing like this for the UK soon?
- tdkme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i think this was already dugg before about 4 months back
- darkc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Great stuff :)
- diesayi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Good stuff. I travel alot and always have my iPod with me while I travel. Directions and Entertainment in one place. Sweet.
- coolmojito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Very cool. Don't like the multiple steps, but hey, it's free.
