Sweet - edcrosay, on 03/10/2009, -5/+128I'd much rather deal the lawyers at the RIAA than the lawyers at Apple.
Stealing music is way less of a crime than stealing money. It is the difference between a small out of court settlement and a felony with time in a pound-me-in-the-ass prison - poonaka, on 03/10/2009, -7/+128Pirate money = criminal charges
- nbeighley, on 03/10/2009, -10/+114pirate music = illegal
pirate money = illegal
this looks like a really great way to get arrested! - thebuggalo, on 03/10/2009, -6/+108$2.60? Are you kidding me? Torrents are free!
- eldridgea, on 03/10/2009, -1/+87Batman has no jurisdiction . . .

- yokozuka, on 03/10/2009, -3/+63Yeah. I'm sure the FBI will get them all in China.
- SmpleJohn, on 03/10/2009, -0/+50WOW! Google translates it 4 times and logs in as 4 different users to post the exact same thing! That's awesome.

Taobao protocol agreed with the Service Email Service Protocol - reyoo30309, on 03/10/2009, -5/+51I rather have the generator.
- inactive, on 03/10/2009, -6/+51Something's telling me I'm better off torrenting... (Spell check for Torrenting, 'Tormenting' =\)
For less than $2.60 - reyoo30309, on 03/10/2009, -3/+35You know google does translate?
- reyoo30309, on 03/10/2009, -1/+33If you live in China, it ain't no biggie. Where do you think all your bootlegged name brand clothes and WOW gold come from ? It's noth'in new.
- rrasco, on 03/10/2009, -2/+33That would be a 'federal pound-me-in-the-ass-prison'.
- Gee1004, on 03/10/2009, -2/+32This is not piracy this is counterfeiting
- Eriksrocks, on 03/10/2009, -0/+27If Apple can't find a way to distinguish between the cards that have actually been issued and the pirated serials, they're screwed on this one.
- dullnation, on 03/10/2009, -4/+31It's pirating a voucher though, not money...
- Jabb0, on 03/10/2009, -0/+26Yeah use your Credit card to purchase Pirate Money...Whats the worst that could happen???
- hammerpants, on 03/10/2009, -1/+26You only say the ggggghhhhh part when you get stabbed.
- frepnog, on 03/10/2009, -7/+28call me when they figure out the same thing for Xbox live points and PSnetwork points.
kthnkxbia! - rossnyc, on 03/10/2009, -6/+26Or just break into a CD store...
- frepnog, on 03/10/2009, -1/+20why in the name of god would someone buy a points card that has the code exposed?
oh wait, normal people wouldn't. seriously, i don't think you thought your cunning plan through. - gab00n, on 03/10/2009, -3/+21With a side of waffles to boot.
- peteyb1313, on 03/10/2009, -0/+17a thousand diggs to you sir
- jonmlm, on 03/10/2009, -1/+16hm, wouldn't the artist still be getting paid? this is screwing apple.
- HappyScrappy, on 03/10/2009, -0/+15It's unlikely they cracked any code. Apple likely uses a database to redeem cards, not a hash function.
It's more likely they are just buying online gift codes from the iTunes store using fake credit card numbers. $200 is the largest gift code you can buy from that store. - dancecmdr, on 03/10/2009, -2/+17Not really. As long as the seller doesn't blatantly disclose the fact that the cards aren't legit, the buyer should be in the clear.
Also, this isn't "pirating money". Gift cards have no cash value legally, which is why Circuit City gift cards magically became valueless when they closed shop. Do you seriously think that Apple can mint its own legal tender? - iDiggr, on 03/10/2009, -1/+16What's a see dee?
- Maddoktor2, on 03/10/2009, -2/+16This is how piracy gets connected to theft, and only gives the RIAA more ammo.
Buried for piracy's sake. - R0ck3t33r, on 03/10/2009, -1/+13They work in factories making MP3's?
- Medicamusic, on 03/10/2009, -0/+12Wow. That is evil. Little Johnnie will be so sad.
- Emachine, on 03/10/2009, -6/+18$2.60 > FREE, no thanks.
- BDJC, on 03/11/2009, -0/+111. Setup store claiming to sell $200 gift cards for $2.60
2. Get credit card information from customers.
3. Max out customers' credit cards.
4. Buy $200 gift card from apple store
5. Email receipt to customer for $2.60 with number for $200 gift card.
6. Profit!!!
7. .....
8. Chinese Prison - amk29j, on 03/10/2009, -3/+14iTunes is mostly DRM free now... and it's 256kbps aac (which is roughly over 400kbps in mp3). If you really can hear the difference between that and a CD, then damn I would hate to be you. I still can't afford it so I'm not a customer, I was just pointing out the ridiculousness of your statement. I'm a customer of TPB... until I can afford to purchase music.
- gamerzfuse, on 03/10/2009, -3/+14I took my time and translated every line of the order form.
Then a message popped up, and upon babelfish translation it said:
Please choose or the filling in correct receiving goods address message!
damnit. - nukeleearr, on 03/10/2009, -0/+10epic
- zuiquan, on 03/10/2009, -9/+19That's *****. No thanks. Does nobody ever think about who gets screwed? Yes, Apple is a big *evil* corporation but actual living, breathing human people with families work there and use the money they earn to buy ***** like food and shelter.
- gurudrew, on 03/10/2009, -1/+10It's due to the file compression. You need smaller hands to get the work done.
- gregdogum, on 03/10/2009, -0/+9What a rip-off...
- troyallen069, on 03/10/2009, -0/+8What's next, counterfeit money to buy a Mac mini?
- chadsmith729, on 03/10/2009, -2/+10Oh I see at the time of this writing there are 2 morally conscious people out there on Digg. Well done guys, but for me ... totally thumbs up on this one.
- Reziarfg, on 03/10/2009, -1/+9As an Apple employee, let me tell you, it's not quite that easy. We mostly use hand-held registers nowadays and the "classic" registers we do have are located behind the Genius Bar (Technician's area) which are constantly staffed by our techs. And they're told to discourage customers from even going behind there. Also while the cards are fairly unsecured, getting a stack of them to a register and ringing them out would be quite an ordeal.
Not to mention you need to log into the registers to use them. - ElBeh, on 03/10/2009, -7/+15No thanks, pirated music is usually better quality than iTunes music, and there isn't a personal ID tag attached to every MP3 file that prevents me from sharing it.
- inactive, on 03/10/2009, -1/+9Pirating music is a gateway to drugs and alcohol!!
- monkeyrun, on 03/10/2009, -2/+10I always thought those codes are not activated till it leaves the store, and the value's stored in a secured database somewhere.
- counterplex, on 03/10/2009, -2/+9It's like a record, only smaller and crappier but shinier
- jsdratm, on 03/10/2009, -6/+13this is fraud and illegal
