Notice that lying to an Apple representative is required to get your "free" earbuds. This is for people who actually have broken Apple products, such as earbuds. This is fraud, people. Fraud is a crime.

"The reasoning behind this is clear, the white earbuds are so iconic and cheap to make it just makes sense to give them away. Its viral marketing of sorts." I have a 4G 40GB and a 512MB Shuffle. I bought the Shuffle for cheap, because it didn't have headphones. No problem for me, but I wonder if I'd be allowed to ask for one... I paid for my 12' Powerbook 15 Jan, 2003. My powerbook was made on Feb 4th. I recieved it Feb 6th. Everything cool, the computer wasn't released until later than that in jan anyway, and this was a pre-order. I called on Jan 16th, 2004 to renew my applecare, and I couldn't because "it had been a year," which means that part of the free year warranty included was a warranty on a product that not only wasn't manufactured yet in this instance, but hadn't been manufactured yet period. It seems to me that the warranty shouldn't be valid until there is a transfer of ownership, which occurs debatably either when the package arrives or when the package is shipped, but either way on feb 5th. Now Apple takes every chance it can to blow me with their support (power supply issues, guarantee on repairs, etc).

Look, the earbuds cost nothing, and Apple doesn't reaquire the broken ones in trade. Every single other company in the world does that.
Apple has a killer legal team, and obviously a marketing team to match (they sold everyone an iPod), so they know they're giving away free headphones and docks, and clearly have decided that's okay. - brettotte1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i called & you have to tell 'em you gotta prob with an ipod, then if you use mac or windoze, then press 8 to get a tech guy. my 90 day warranty was out of date of course, but i was super nice, let him do his schpiel for the $59.99 2-year warranty (nutz for a $119 gigoShuffle) & told him my buds just were all crackly (true).
went away for 5 min & said he'd find out of there'd be a charge for my part of the USA. came back & said they'd overnight 'em for free.
i was very nice to him as he was to me, but I suppose I should told him I've been a mac guy for 20 years with my apple IIc (still hooked up to play Taipan), Mac Performa 631CD, Power Mac G3 Crescendo, Powerbook, & now a windoze laptop ;( - Rotkiv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i love the apple earbuds, i don't like normal headphones for listening to music, their bulky and retarded looking and you can't lay down and rest your head on anything while you listen.
