- DruidMon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow they already have a fixed version up. 202.0.dmg I didn't have QT 7.0.4 so I didn't have the grief.
- sliddick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is so awesome. Not only do I hate Media Player because of it's lame performance, I hate that there is limited playback functionallity like stepping through frames and such.
This allows wmv's to play in Quicktime with Quicktime's full player functions.
Truly a great download - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow how could I not have know about this before >_< Awesome digg :)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"It's OSX only, no digg."
ummmm........Flip4Mac. - dickyducky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1why the hell we need so many formats??? divx? xvid? wmv? vmw? rm? mr? mov?...
- vdubski, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dupe, no digg.
http://www.digg.com/software/Flip4Mac_-_Free_playback_of_Windows_Media_content_on_Macintosh_OS_X - OwlBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow, they bought Flip4Mac? Interesting.
Thanks for the tip.
-Owl - gunnmjk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They bought Flip4Mac the same way they bought VPC. Looksl ike the end of frequent product updates.
- dickyducky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0COOL, it's free right now? WMP for mac needs an update
- WebCester, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Crashes Safari without fail when clicking back after viewing an embedded .wmv video. Meh.
- MightyMik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0VLC works...BUT try scrubbing thru a vid and it just crashes...and WMP does weird phasing/flanging stuff to audio. I'd much rather use QT player. this is sweet.
- zwilliams, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The crashing is not unknown. Flip4Mac's components have been known to crash Safari, Firefox, and plenty more. And on top of that Flip4Mac's creators totally ignore the issue. They've even been caught pushing out comments from download sites about the problem.
I figured it out months ago when Flip4Mac first came out.
Just uninstall it for now. - embraceware, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0AWESOME digg - very cool.
- 23inhouse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I thought it might screw things up, but no problems so far (After watching one WMV).
Very nice.
Thanks - ketsugi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0VLC does have browser support: it ships with an ActiveX control as well as a Mozilla plugin.
- suppazone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0dont use this piece of crab...avoid it
- smithk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0quicktime crash everytime i try to close it after watching a wmv file. i haven't tried the safari plugin yet.
- xioner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0VLC is nice, but a bit buggy and not very polished...
this used to cost $10 from Flip4Mac.... nice to see it free... - Weaselboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hmm... I bought the previous version and it works perfectly. This new free version crashes Safari every time under 10.4.4. Sucks...
- emblym, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have been using this for a while now. Great download indeed. Dugg.
- Gromit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great, I just bought this a week ago and now it's free. At least it was only $10.
- dickyducky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it crashes Safari :-/
- WebCester, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Krill3.2: You're joking, right?
evansis: Nope, don't even know what that is. I have Saft and Stand installed though.
It works fine for me in QuickTime, no crashes so far. Good thing you can turn off the internet playback in the prefs, or I'd have to deinstall it. As is, I'll use it for downloaded movies and wait for an update to use it in the browser. - Karl77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0is there anything for Quicktime in WMP?
- evansls, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yeah -- it crashes for me too. no matter what i do. WebCester, do you have Safari Block installed too?
- deviantlnx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This crashes firefox everytime i try to leave the page with the video file
- smithk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yeah, i meant "crashes". english is my native language... =)
- reidypeidy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0 JAKV5, because of no web browser support.
I've been wanting this for awhile, but i think it used to cost money so i never got it. This is great for us Mac users since they stop updating their crappy WMP for mac along time ago. It can't even play WM9 video! It sucked. - Motobike_man, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Apple is jumping around with quick time also
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/quicktime701reinstallerforquicktime704.html - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wish we could get the opposite, Quicktime component for Windows Media Player..
- streetstealth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0VLC sucks at decoding Windows Media because the Windows Media codecs are a bunch of proprietary crap that they had to reverse-engineer (and, for ridiculous legal reasons, couldn't even have a go at WMV3).
VLC rocks at decoding more open formats like xvid.
What's weird here is that Flip4Mac licensed the WMV codecs from MS, and now MS has licensed the whole thing back... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0oh, and vlc on the mac is the biggest POS.
- skellener, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've had this for awhile. Works most of the time. Best part is you don't get "commercials" when viewing WMV files like on CNN. Good product.
- samster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0quicktime crashes with this, vlc is crap on mac.
I try and avoid .wmv like the plague anyway. - mynameiswerd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"quicktime crash everytime i try to close it after watching a wmv file. i haven't tried the safari plugin yet."
ditto - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You idiots, vlc is optimized for movie watching, ie sitting back and not doing anything but watching the movie.
That's why it doesn't respond quickly.
At least that's my guess. - ManiacFive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well if this works this is awesome, it sucks the way, WMP is soooo slow on Mac, and likewise Quicktime is rubbish on XP, can't you guys just get a long.
But anyway, I'll try it, if this causes crashes i'll sufffer along with WMP i guess, can't be doing with that. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0How cool is that. Yes, Windows Media Player for OS X is lame (on purpose, I think). This is a step in the right direction.
- packagethief, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Amazing. WMP is so terrible on the Mac that I usually avoid downloading WMV files alltogether.
- tomscott, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0
DO NOT USE THIS SOFTWARE.
It caused a TON of very strange problems on my computer when i tried it a few weeks ago, not limited to, screwing with embeded quicktime movies in webpages, refusing to play wmvs in browser, and randomly crashing quicktime even when not in use. It might work for a few people, but i've seen a ton of people with the same problems in the reviews in mac update. After removing all the traces of this, and a reboot i'm back to normal. - hiro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Surely there would be more demand for the other way round i.e. WMP playing QT files? Quicktime is only surpassed by Realplayer in its crappiness
- burndive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"why the hell we need so many formats??? divx? xvid? wmv? vmw? rm? mr? mov?..."
Hmmm... Good point. How about you just pick one and the whole world will switch to using that for every single application until the end of time.
Just don't pick one owned by a company that wants to charge people for it, oh, and make sure it has the most efficient compression mathematically possible, and on top of that doesn't hog CPU cycles and memory.
And nevermind the whole DRM issue. - evansls, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0*****************************************************
Flip4Mac Support had this to say to me today in an email:
we seem to be having some problems with the new release and the usage of QT 7.0.4 release as
well. I am not sure if you are running this program or not, but if you are you are going to have to down-rev back to the QT 7.0.3 version to make it work properly. We are currently working on a fix for this right now and look for it on our site later today or tomorrow.
****************************** - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yup, crashes my QT as well. Damn, I want, so badly, this to work.
- MacTechSteve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Before submitting this I had it running on one Mac. I have since installed it on two others. All are running fine when opening local files and also imbedded video. Sorry to see some that some of you are having problems.
- bedouin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I happily paid $10 for this a while back and have been a happy customer, except it's been weeks and they still haven't managed to make it work with Comedy Central's video clips -- so that means no Daily Show for me.
Since I installed QT 7.0.4 last night I'll avoid this until 2.0.1 is released.
So when is MS just going to link their MS Messenger page to Adium? Leave it to MS to advocate a piece of software only for it to destroy functionality. - MEXCANq, on 06/20/2008, -0/+0hello HELLO YUPİİİİİİİİİİİİİİİİİİİ mexcanq_20@yahoo.com
- MacTechSteve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The fix is in - http://www.flip4mac.com/wmv_download.htm
- WJMoore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Crashes Finder everytime when it tried to preview a WMV and crashes QuickTime Player on exit. This is with 10.4.4, looks like I'm sticking with WMP for a bit longer. Fortunately there is an easy uninstaller.
- bmw@, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Unhappily, I have to agree with tomscott. It crashes the Finder when you preview WMV's too ...
