- NX910a, on 10/12/2007, -4/+30The videos are in Real [...buffering...] media format. ):
- Ulvund, on 10/12/2007, -2/+28Now if people would just digg the source instead of adsense spam-post:
http://webcast.berkeley.edu/ - noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18"US Forgein Policy After 9/11"
You mean we have a forgein policy? - XxFinalexX, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16I thought I saw this Dugg before...
Im almost certain because I bookmarked the site after I found it on Digg. - AnotherName, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9cool, but i will never install real player on a computer ever again.
- krabat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Man I love the Internet.
- bluedayfading, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I like free information. Do you get a podegree when finished with the course?
- stalefries, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"Help us! Let us out!" -- UC Berkeley
- debreuil, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Finally a course on how to free UC Berkley.
- monergism, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7How to buckle your Birkenstocks 101
- Falcorian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5That's not actually correct.
There is 7ABC for Scientists and Engineers, 8AB for Pre-meds and the like, and Physics 10, which is "Physics for Future Presidents", or physics for people who aren't science types, but want to learn a little about physics anyway. - mcfarag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Any step towards free public education is great and can only help, even if it is a tiny step
- Renton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Because it has a high compression rate and you don't really need to watch a professor stand in front of a chalkboard in high quality.
- mtappenden, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This has been on the front page more than once in the past. I don't like a lot of the online courses. I generally hate streaming stuff, I like to be able to download it. And if I download audio/video files, I like it to all be done for me and I like to have it all organised for me.
That's why I use iTunes, and itunes.berkeley.edu and itunes.stanford.edu and have subscribed to a lot of great podcasts there. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Here is the online learning link (including all these courses) that was dugg before:
http://www.eliteskills.com/free_education/?foo=x - stalefries, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That's all it is. No test material or anything, just a bunch of video/audio lectures for your viewing pleasure. It's like going to school, except you can do it naked at home, and there's no tests to take.
- stalefries, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I know I saw this link on here before:
http://www.eliteskills.com/free_education/?foo=x
It has a lot of the same stuff, plus several other universities, and a lot of other stuff, all organized in a no-nonsense fashion. It's really good. - krazyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I have been listening to the US history lectures. It is helping me in my AP US History class.
- micahman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Whatever, that is still cool. Even if you don't like Cal, they still have links to the video collections of MIT, Harvard, and Princeton.
http://www.oculture.com/weblog/2007/02/university_vide.html - amdinator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Another great resource is MIT OCW. Some subjects even have free online textbook excerpts.
http://ocw.mit.edu/index.html - st3vo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Now only if you could get real college credit for watching.
- skaughtm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2what the hell is it?
- danielsimon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3wow an original site that has never been dugg before............gentlemen I call you to digg accountability. stop digging previously posted articles--there is a mechanism in place-- if you try to post an article and the site tells you "did you mean this" and there are already 1000 duggs on it, do the responsible thing and do not post it.
- inara23, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"here are 3 physics paths available here. Physics for Engineers, physics for little boys, and physics for little girls."
you've got to be kidding me. apparently, going to cal has done you absolutely no good. there are plenty of girls who kick serious ass in the physics 7 series, okay? grow up, and stop thinking you can use the phrase "little girls" as an insult. - koko775, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They're also on the ITMS, if that's fine with you, but there's no video there.
PLUG: Watch the CS61C classes. Dan Garcia is an EXCELLENT lecturer -- he keeps you engaged and interested. If you're interested in C and Assembly he's definitely the man. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The Buddhism teacher is painfully slow and lacking in the brain.
- MisterUnknown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's been here before, at least once that I'm sure of.
- bigp3rm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I feel smurt already.
- jawbreaker4fs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1how many majors is "physics for future presidents" a core course for?
- Sanitarium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Listen to "Nukes 3" in the Physics section. At about 30 seconds in there is a question:
"Who is your favorite super hero and why?"
I love physics. - Necho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1where are the midterms and such? Haven't messed around too much with it but all I see are the video streaming and audio download/streaming/subscribing links.
- stalefries, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A comment farther down indicates that it is Physics 8a, apparently just the basics.
- maloney_633, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Physics for Future Presidents is a great listen.
- sfuseau, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Your pseudodegree can probably be easily converted into a MetaDegree or MethaDegree using simple, widely available household items.
- missingperson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1many of these courses were on Google Video a long time ago: http://video.google.com/ucberkeley.html
- sngx1275, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wondered that. There are some free ones at the school I went to too, but they weren't the real classes. For those they want you to actually enroll.
- cyfer2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1But I think the physics for future president is very good for those law school students.
- indyhouse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Seriously though... UC Berkley is still using Real?
- Pic0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1how can i download real media stream?
- konaken, on 04/14/2009, -0/+1fyi, this page has moved to http://www.openculture.com/2007/03/25_uc_berkeley_ ...
- djangoxl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What about video classes? I would really like to see some serious free classes where I would be able to see what's going on during the lectures and have the syllabi and textbooks available. I sincerely hope in a few years from now, we will all be able to attend these programs online......
I'm counting on UC Berkeley for this.....(don't know why, but they can pull this out imho) - FHKE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In Digg Apple section?
- jawbreaker4fs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I love MIT OCW! Gilbert Strang taught me linear algebra online!
- Pic0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1these do seem to be basic intro classes for non engineering majors... you are getting basic info on basic concepts
- xJVz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"""
Because it has a high compression rate and you don't really need to watch a professor stand in front of a chalkboard in high quality.
"""
You know what also has a high compression ratio with minimal loss in PSNR (or in layman's terms, good quality)? H.264 encoded using x264. It's also supported by many media players including VLC, MPC, MPlayer, xine, QuickTime (albeit in a limited fashion), and CCCP. - jdgtrplyr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Agreed!
- tw0k1ngs, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Wow... HORRID sound quality on that first nutrition video...
- gnarkill726, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I am so smart. I am so smart. S-M-R-T. I mean, S-M-A-R-T.
- nvman90, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Who would want to watch anything in the Real Media format?
I thought that horrible format died years ago. -
