- jdoo, on 08/01/2008, -26/+247Because I'd rather carry 1 device (iphone) instead of 2 (cellphone + ipod touch).
- wontstoptalking, on 08/01/2008, -15/+215Dugg for making me feel better about having an iPod Touch instead of an iPhone.
And yes, I love it. I can Tweet...from anywhere (where Wifi is available. So pretty much 70% of public places.) I can control my iTunes from anywhere in the house. And with the VNC app, my whole computer is in my pocket. I set my router up to forward the VNC port straight to my computer, so I can actually access my laptop from anywhere there is internet. From my iPod.
Really, two years ago, can you imagine someone saying this:
"I just got an email. On my iPod."
"I just used a location finder to find where I am. On my iPod."
"I just sent a Twitter. On my iPod."
"I'm watching a movie comfortable on a giant, monster touch screen. On my iPod."
And best yet:
"Dude, my iPod has a touch screen. And Wifi." - casspa, on 08/01/2008, -11/+138I've been defending my purchase of the ipod touch since its release. It really is 'good enough.' And for the nominal increase in price from competing ipods you certainly get the best of features with the Wi-Fi and App Store.
- reverland, on 08/01/2008, -10/+61The main reason most of us get an iPhone is not because we think the Touch is crap, it's because we don't want to carry multiple devices around.
Crap someone beat me to it first, oh well. I don't know what the article is trying to prove except that he's still paying for cell service and he paid more for his touch, but because he doesn't have a contract on the touch he's ahead of those of us that bought an iPhone. I'm happy with my purchase, I was paying about the same for a smartphone. My smartphone had nowhere near the amount of storage I currently have, the end result was that I left my music player at home and my phone was a phone. Now I have everything wrapped up in one device and it's way slimmer than my previous phone. - JoeBaynham, on 08/01/2008, -7/+54I had an iPod touch before I upgraded to an iPhone and am SO glad I did. Every time I would see the safari icon, maps, stocks, weather, youtube, and any other application that needed an internet connection and not be near a wifi connection was like a kick in the face. The iPhone is worth it just to have the 3g/edge connection.
- Bosox958, on 08/01/2008, -4/+51Don't forget that the iPod touch is available with 32 GB, so unlike on the iPhone, anyone with a decently large music collection can carry all their music...basically the reason I didn't spring for an iPhone and I'm very happy with my touch.
- Virgule, on 08/01/2008, -2/+37yes, only thru WiFi tho.
- KaivenTor, on 08/01/2008, -2/+35One of the best reasons to get an Ipod Touch instead of an iPhone: No AT&T activation or plan.
- ryleyleckie, on 08/01/2008, -3/+29really? you got an iphone based on what other people would think of you?
sounds like a confidence fail to me - AirRaven, on 08/01/2008, -3/+26http://www.digg.com/apple
If you don't like it, turn it off. - LeeSoong, on 08/01/2008, -1/+24All the touch needs is a WiFi headset connection for making phone calls over the internet...
Should be simple enough to make a bluetooth headset connector for the touch and an application program to load up.
For kicks, include a VGA camera in the ipod connector so while you hold the touch in your hand you have 2-way video conferencing and phone call via WiFi.
Make It So. - MrChunks, on 08/01/2008, -1/+22Perhaps your boyfriend needs to stop calling his other girlfriends then.
- cromulent742, on 08/01/2008, -1/+21return it... and buy a new one in september/october when they lower the price and increase storage.
- Frazzlet, on 08/01/2008, -0/+20I dropped mine in the toilet. No really, I did. I couldn't believe it.
- Vector713, on 08/01/2008, -7/+27It's called an iPod Touch.
There's no such thing as an iTouch. - N1tro, on 08/01/2008, -4/+23I agree 100%, my ipod touch is very capable, and i carry around a cheep phone. BUT it is cool listening to Pandora in the car and that alone is worth something more than my ipod touch.
- NOFXY, on 08/01/2008, -1/+17The only thing I do wish the iPod Touch had is a built in speaker like the iPhone, other than that, i'm happy with it.
- wontstoptalking, on 08/01/2008, -0/+15I find it amazing how scratch resistant the screen is. Everything glides off it.
And yes, iTunes is a resource hogger, but I manage to put up with it.
Because....you can access iTunes and the app store on your iPod! Without a computer!
And I found the best app ever: Search for Diggnation in the app store. There's an app that streams any Diggnation to your iPod or iPhone without you even having to download it. And it's full resolution, not iTune's youtube like quality.
Love it. - jlian, on 08/01/2008, -2/+16This makes me even sadder that my 16 Gig iPod Touch was stolen...
:( - TecK415, on 08/01/2008, -1/+15Wow... That is beyond pathetic. You didn't get the ipod touch because you thought people would think you were "cooler" if you had an iphone??
rofl. - cromulent742, on 08/01/2008, -1/+15well that was uncalled for
- dlmaher, on 08/01/2008, -4/+18Me too, but it isn't worth the cost of the iPhone contract. It certainly is not worth the cost of the iPhone 2 contract. Holy rapage. My Sprint SERO plan gets me unlimited data and texts + 500 minutes for $30. For that price difference I can fit a (very svelte) iPod Touch 32 in my pocket next to my Centro
- DCstewieG, on 08/01/2008, -0/+14Oftentimes refurb items are put through more scrutiny than non-refurb.
- Galaxylander, on 08/02/2008, -0/+13Well, if you want to be nitpicky, touch isn't capitalized on iPod touch.
http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/ - mywhitenoise, on 08/01/2008, -1/+14I'll bite when it hits 64GB, but it'd be a no brainer to pick up if they hit 80GB storage.
- bwdd, on 08/02/2008, -0/+12You gotta be careful when masturbating...
- AVigorVermin, on 08/02/2008, -0/+12you bobbed your apple?
- sakuraz, on 08/02/2008, -0/+11why not also add a call function?
- brundlefly76, on 08/01/2008, -1/+12It all depends on what your needs and usage are.
Alot of people insist that wifi is 'everywhere' but they are specifically referring to 'everywhere' *they* go - it certainly hasnt been my experience. And WiFi is useless in a car or on a train, or even while you are walking around town - cause your moving.
I have had an iPod Touch since it came out, but it has mostly sat in my desk. For a while when I was train commuting, I would watch videos on it - that's it, as there is no connectivity options on the train.
However, the 3G iPhone has been a totally different experience - great connectivity whereever I go, combined with the apps, has been night and day for me. - morningchai, on 08/01/2008, -3/+14If one more person calls it an "iTouch", I swear to God....
;) - aserer511, on 08/01/2008, -0/+10"know someone already fixed the problems on it. " come to think of it thats actually a very, very smart approach!
- stillasleep00, on 08/01/2008, -5/+14As awesome as it is, I'm still just holding out for a higher capacity model. I'm a music geek, and my collection ranges around 40 gigs. Not to mention how much space video takes up. I realize it's not Apple's fault, flash drives don't come bigger at this point, but the second I can get an 80 gig model, I will buy.
- wesl56, on 08/01/2008, -0/+9its not just space for music, its not bad at all to watch movies on the touch... and you can def have more than 10gb music, half of my 200gb on my laptop is music
- winmywii, on 08/01/2008, -0/+8It's better because it is cheaper. Any item new or refurbished can break.
- kinseyincanada, on 08/02/2008, -0/+8want it to wash your balls too?
- birch25, on 08/01/2008, -1/+9i LOVE my touch! i have it and my cell phone in the same pocket constantly and it works great. i just wish i had access to edge or 3g when i'm out. i find this to be the perfect way of getting the benefits of the iphone while not having to deal with switching my carrier.
- SeeingSounds, on 08/02/2008, -2/+10Hubby has got to be one of the most annoying words ever created.
- Mononuclear, on 08/02/2008, -0/+8Often refurb items are perfectly normal ones people sent back because they didn't read the instructions and thought it was broken when they couldn't figure out how to turn it on.
- LukeBeaumont, on 08/02/2008, -0/+8Sure, and make the price rise to several thousand dollars.
And more megapixels doesn't necessarily mean better camera. - tsunamisteve, on 08/01/2008, -1/+8camera, microphone, speaker, cell triangulation (sorry, the wifi spots i use aren't geotagged in any database) are reasons the iphone is better than ipod touch. i'm a frequent traveler and would be dead in the water hunting for wifi all the time.
- pixelguru, on 08/01/2008, -1/+8My only gripes with owning a touch are having to explain to people that it isn't an iPhone (which everyone assumes it is) and that Apple treats touch users like 2nd class citizens - iPhone users get the new apps and OS for free, while we have to pay a small but insulting fee.
- jostheller, on 08/01/2008, -0/+7basically what you are saying is that you really aren't that big of a fan of music. noted. I have 80GB of music, and I do listen to all of it according to my itunes usage stats.
- KingGorilla, on 08/02/2008, -1/+8good enough for me
- jmp478, on 08/02/2008, -0/+7John may be funny looking and socially awkward, but MAN have you seen his iPhone?!
That guy is so cool! - DevinOlsen, on 08/01/2008, -3/+9The back of my iPod touch looks nothing like the one in that picture :( (It's all scratched up)
But yes, the iPod touch is really a handy/neat device... But I now own the iPhone, and I have to say having all of the abilities of the iPod touch ANYWHERE (not just were there is wifi) is absolutely incredible. - dudefaceguyman, on 08/01/2008, -1/+7I'm the same way. I simply am not a chatty person on the phone. I'd be way better off with a Touch and keeping my prepaid.
My prepaid tracfone is awesome too. I get double minutes for life thing. So if I buy 110 minutes, it doubles to 220 minutes. No additional fees. So 40 bucks for about 440 minutes which is close to a fairly average monthly contract plan anyways. Yet I'm not tied down to any contract and can stop anytime.
I'd like to text more though, it takes .5 units (a minutes is 1 unit) so it can eat away pretty fast if I get too chatty on sms. Also my prepaid phone is an older 2005 model LG. So it's not flashy by any means. - paradox4190, on 08/02/2008, -0/+6Actually, I think you have a problem. That's ~100 straight days of music. How have you even listened to all of that?
- BlueCadenza, on 08/02/2008, -0/+6ill buy your touch off of you lol
- kmcippant, on 08/02/2008, -1/+6For women it doesn't matter at much though. I keep my cellphone, iPod, DS, and whatever else I might need in my purse with me all the time.
- kingatrock, on 08/01/2008, -2/+7Let me say first I'm a die hard ms guy, vista, 360 .. BUT I have found I've become more annoying to my friends because every time I want to explain whats so damned cool about this ipod touch it takes at least 10 minutes! This is the coolest piece of electronics i've ever bought hands down. The 3rd party apps and tversity combined makes this the best mobile device I've ever seen. In fact the ONLY complaint I have about the touch/phone (i guess) is there is no lock for watching videos.. you have to be careful not to touch the screen or buttons while watching shows :/ that's it though!
