- inactive, on 05/31/2008, -32/+152Apple fanboys here they cum.
- stephenjbolger, on 05/31/2008, -6/+59I've been watching all these iphone rumors for the last few months. I'm amazed at how much buzz apple can create just by keeping there mouth shut. I don't know of any other company that does a product launch as good as Apple.
- skidooer, on 05/31/2008, -6/+54There is no reason why the phone needs the entire system installed out of the box. It only needs the ability to receive the latest firmware from iTunes during the activation process.
- Tddupre, on 05/31/2008, -9/+52only 9 more days...hopefully
- mj1903, on 05/31/2008, -5/+38You gave two ways it could have been shipping since March. Why don't you believe your own sound logic?
- colonelxc, on 05/31/2008, -0/+26I want to work at apple just so I can leak pictures/specs to the public (and then get fired for it)
- normalkid, on 05/31/2008, -19/+42There's no way the 3G iPhone has been hardware and software complete for them to be shipping boxes since March. If true, then the 3G iPhones would have to be running 1.1.5 (to support the 3G iphone) or some crazy-early beta of 2.0.
- Tddupre, on 05/31/2008, -5/+24BURY ALL THE HotDogBun COMMENTS BURY THEM ALL BURY THEM !!
buried. - jhop, on 05/31/2008, -9/+28Forbes is starting to sound worse than a MacRumors or ThinkSecret... Not to criticize those sites, as I visit them daily...
- pjsheldon, on 05/31/2008, -0/+15I don't think you visit ThinkSecret every day, or even this year.
- enicholas, on 05/31/2008, -0/+15Several reasons.
1) This is Apple. Consider what they've done with the iPod over the years -- every single generation of iPod had major design changes, and most generations had major feature upgrades. We went from a brick that only played music to the the current iPod Nano with video in only a few years.
2) Even when it just comes to software, Apple is known for major redesigns. The Apple TV Take 2 is a huge departure from the original, and that came just a year later. Mac OS X has undergone massive changes in every release. The iPhone's player functionality has little relation to the iPod's -- everyone was predicting that they would have a touch-screen scroll wheel, given how integral it was to the iPod experience -- and they dumped it without ever looking back.
3) If it's just "iPhone 1 + 3G", why make it (as it is obviously going to be) the main focus of the WWDC keynote? Why ship millions of them over here, and then just have them sit in crates until the announcement? Consider that the current iPhone is all but unavailable in many markets now -- Apple is losing sales every minute by not having the new iPhone launched. If it's just a minor, incremental upgrade, then why all the secrecy? Why not just go ahead and announce it?
Given all of that, I don't believe for a second that the iPhone v2 is just an iPhone v1 with a 3G chip. I'm sure it's going to look a lot like an iPhone v1, and obviously the 2.0 software will work on both of them, but there will be major features only available on the v2. Could be GPS, video capture, video chat, or a bunch of other things. This is going to be a big upgrade. - acidbathfan, on 05/31/2008, -4/+17Forbes is a ad whore.......end of line.
- notoneofus, on 05/31/2008, -1/+13I'm so tired of this meme...
- WaveRunningNakd, on 05/31/2008, -0/+11My iPhone Wish List:
(1) 3G
(2) GPS
(3) iChat with iSight and Video Conferencing
(4) Random Ringtones
If it has these 4 items, I'm dumping Verizon. - graderguy, on 05/31/2008, -0/+11Not a 3g chip wearing a fake beard and mustache.
- Whaines, on 05/31/2008, -0/+10I'd imagine it's quite difficult to sell a phone of which you have no stock.
- haydesigner, on 05/31/2008, -2/+11Are you asking Tddupre, or yourself?
- YoctoYotta, on 05/31/2008, -2/+11I'm willing to argue that being a bitter Luddite is not better than obsessing over a phone.
- brickbat, on 05/31/2008, -0/+83G and GPS are the clinchers for me. If it has them I will buy 1 each for my wife and myself whatever the cost. A 5 mp camera would be nice too. For a high end phone thats pretty standard now.
- chadisawesome, on 05/31/2008, -8/+15this is a good article that covers all the bases of the iphone rumors. shipment rumors, hardware rumors, software rumors. While most of these rumor articles just rehash the same crap, at least this one covers everything.
- Qumahlin, on 05/31/2008, -0/+7Honestly the whore "lets cram as many mp as we can" on a phone is really pointless for any true photo purposes. A 5MP sensor doesnt make up for the fact that the optics are *****.
I have yet to see a 2-5mp cell phone camera that produces an image comparable to point and shoot 2-5mp standard digital camera. On a cell phone all 5MP means is more space to be wasted by an image that will have excessive noise and so so color balance.
BTW, before anyone disagrees with me, please do the test yourself and please have a real understand of photography, not a "they look same to me" If you don't know how to use/read a histogram don't even bother replying. - Corbet, on 05/31/2008, -0/+7That's impossible. People have dissassembled the iPhone completely, they would have noticed a 3G chip.
- enicholas, on 05/31/2008, -0/+7I think the point was that we are fanatic about their launches because they do such a good job of hiding the details and creating excitement.
- phoomp, on 05/31/2008, -1/+8No credible pictures? So? I predict it'll look almost exactly like the current iPhone, with a few new curves.
- BrendanSheehan, on 05/31/2008, -2/+8Jobs is an arrogant know it all, but when I use the iPhone and really like it I'm not thinking about him. We like the ***** phone not the man.
- Dohko_Xar, on 05/31/2008, -0/+6What do you ride then?
- graderguy, on 05/31/2008, -0/+5Name one.
- Rauby, on 05/31/2008, -4/+9Indeed. Pray to the lord Jobs.
- phoomp, on 05/31/2008, -0/+5If Apple is going to launch a 3G iPhone in early June, it's highly *likely* that the units to stock shelve of Apple shrines around the US *are* here already. It's not like they're gonna ship them across the Pacific the moment His Steveness announces it and have them ready for purchase that afternoon, or even the next day.
- drcreek, on 05/31/2008, -1/+6I like how he has chosen not to caps lock "iPhone"
SHOULD HAVE BEEN IPHONE!!!!!!!!!!!! - walkea1, on 05/31/2008, -0/+5wow, you just.... snapped.
Basically you just got super emotional over people getting super emotional over a phone. Hypocrite? - tr0n, on 05/31/2008, -0/+5"I'm seriously, you guys."
- enicholas, on 05/31/2008, -0/+4If you'd actually read my post, you'd see that I am well aware of that.
- AgamousChild, on 05/31/2008, -2/+6Why does anyone think that the new iPhone will look or behave any differently than the current iPhone, except that it will work on a different spectrum??
- Qumahlin, on 05/31/2008, -0/+4You don't understand, you'll be more then fired. You will be sued by Apple, and yes they have every right to sue you, I suggest applying at an apple store and reading the employment agreement.
- derekivey, on 05/31/2008, -2/+6their
- redwallhp, on 05/31/2008, -0/+4The iPhone *is* the mobile Wii. Didn't you see the keynote where the SDK was announced?
- Lockhart, on 05/31/2008, -1/+5New iPhone?
Nah, I'd rather have a new re-designed MacBook Pro and MacBook with wew LED back lit displays, multi-touch gestures, better integrated graphics and speed bumps etc.
Amen to that. - notoneofus, on 05/31/2008, -0/+4Reading comprehension?!?!?!?!?!?
- ep53, on 05/31/2008, -0/+4*Steve Jobs. Make alot more sense now....
- SRSco, on 05/31/2008, -4/+7A one-paged Forbes article made it to the front page? o_O
- IllBeBack, on 05/31/2008, -2/+5I see it too. Clean up on aisle 3.
- brickbat, on 05/31/2008, -0/+3Man, I don't disagree with you but your point is kind of irrelevant. I don't carry a camera around with me everywhere but I do carry my phone. The pictures don't have to be great. They just have to be good enough.
- enicholas, on 06/01/2008, -0/+3Seriously? Okay, here goes.
The 2nd gen iPod introduced the touch-sensitive scroll wheel and a number of minor changes.
The 3rd gen iPod had the hardware buttons repositioned to the top and made touch-sensitive. This generation introduced the now-standard dock connector.
The iPod Mini was a completely new design with a new form factor, the four hard buttons integrated into the click wheel, and an aluminum case.
The 4th gen iPod copied the click wheel from the mini, and introduced a color screen and photo viewing capabilities.
The 5th gen iPod introduced yet another case redesign, video playback, and the photo-only iPod Nano and the iPod Shuffle.
The 6th gen saw the introduction of the iPhone, aluminum case on the iPod classic, redesigned iPod Nano with video playback, and the iPod touch.
So yes, the 2nd and 3rd generation were relatively minor revs compared to the rest. However, even the relatively minor hardware changes in the 2nd and 3rd gens are more than most people are expecting from the 2nd gen iPhone -- and I think that is a mistake. - Ravatar, on 05/31/2008, -2/+5I'm not seeing an issue.
1) Man needs to fly more to close business deals.
2) Man flies more.
3) Man spends more money on flight expenses. - badtzmartin, on 05/31/2008, -1/+4You could buy a modbook. Granted, it's not 11", but it's pretty nice. Google it. I think you'll dig it...
- ChromaVita, on 05/31/2008, -0/+3Isn't it possible that maybe the new iPhone looks almost exactly the same as the old one? Then no one would even believe they are spy shots.
- Zippo, on 05/31/2008, -1/+3Well, the look and feel of the iPhone's OS is no mystery... developers are using it right now.
- Twinnie, on 05/31/2008, -0/+2I don't honestly care whether or not it's shipping already, I think everyone who would be interested knows almost for sure that they're announcing it on the 9th. I'll just sit tight and see if he's made the changes I want, especially to the two year contract. There were rumours of price restructuring in Europe and that's what I want to know about.
- elambing, on 05/31/2008, -0/+2how much you wanna bet it looks the same? (maybe a bit smaller)
a big part of the iphones image is its simplistic design. i think its just going to be upgrades to the hardware -
