- getisboy, on 02/12/2008, -9/+226they better not charge you for flash!
- cuestbeats, on 02/12/2008, -2/+125finally, I can simulate the physics of cloth on the go.
- beerbarron, on 02/12/2008, -1/+101I just want flash support, sometime, someday, somehow
- inactive, on 02/12/2008, -3/+80Only for the iPod Touch
- PtoS382, on 02/12/2008, -3/+74Hooray! Addictive banner-ad minigames for all!
- whataboutdave, on 02/12/2008, -2/+56I like flash, but I like long battery life even more. I hope they include a way to disable it like they did for wifi.
- Ch0chi, on 02/12/2008, -9/+62Porn on the go baby!!
- thenome, on 02/12/2008, -1/+48Hey, this is the guy who called the iphone updates; so, it's probably right, but I agree with the developer thing. I wouldn't doubt if they have developers write in some sandboxed version of modified flash and web languages.
- Subriot, on 02/12/2008, -1/+40Adobe should make a special version of Flash for the browser, where you can tap on the flash object to run it, rather than having a crapload of flashes/ads running as soon as you load the page.
- virtualball, on 02/12/2008, -1/+34I trust them. This "reliable source" provided them with 1.1.3 ~1 month before it came out.
- tuartboy, on 02/12/2008, -8/+40I kinda hope this isn't true. There is already so much crap out there that brings even my quad-core to its knees. I don't want "shoot the badger and win eternal life" ads on my phone either. And there are way too many things that I'm just not sure how they would implement (mouseovers anyone?). I'm fine with ajax apps because they tend to keep things light on bandwidth once the js is loaded into cache. You would also lose the double-tap to center on content feature with flash content. Say what you will, it *will* be harder on the battery than static html or even dhtml apps.
Not whining. Okay, maybe a bit. - nakile, on 02/12/2008, -0/+30I hope that it allows you to choose which embedded Flash objects are allowed to run. For example, lets pretend you on a Flash heavy video website with tons of ads. All the flash objects would have an icon on them saying "Touch to activate" or something to that nature. That way the only thing that would be running is the video player. Hopefully this would solve the battery life issues (which for all we know might not even exist if this source is accurate).
- Trax91, on 02/12/2008, -3/+30"Flash on iPhone: It's coming"
So am I. - factoryale, on 02/12/2008, -0/+23Am I the only one who googled the name on the iphone in the latest ad? [Geoff Kaman] A Flash Engineer specializing in advanced ActionScripting - seems like a giant hint to me!
- az0madman, on 02/12/2008, -0/+22I hope this means I can use the Pandora radio with it. It'd make iPhone the ultimate music player.
- andru, on 02/12/2008, -0/+22No, we didn't say it was fake. We said that the rumors that Flash was left out due to battery issues are fake!
- andru, on 02/12/2008, -4/+23I'd be very, very surprised if they charged for the Flash upgrade.
- RyeBrye, on 02/12/2008, -1/+18Saying "flash on the iphone" can mean so many things...
It could mean everything from Flash Lite 7 which runs... well... little crappy phone games - all the way to a full blown Flash 9 that has both VM1 and VM2 support and is capable of running Flex apps. - topgigmedia, on 02/12/2008, -0/+15would be cool if there was an option to 'click to activate' on each flash piece on a page. That way you could avoid banner ads and only see the specific Flash object that you choose to view, preventing unwanted battery drain. A simple Flash on/off toggle in the admin panel would be limited - not sure an all or nothing does it for me.
- mbrusco103, on 02/12/2008, -0/+15flash would be nice but i want texting and notepad to have landscape mode for easier typing
- Bviper, on 02/12/2008, -0/+14You successfully missed the joke.
- deadnoob, on 02/12/2008, -0/+13say his name, and trust me, he will no longer be any kind of source.
- likwidfuzion, on 02/12/2008, -3/+15Oh right, cause Windows is a multi-touch phone.
- inactive, on 02/12/2008, -1/+12shhhh don't give steve any ideas
- kashk5, on 02/12/2008, -0/+11They're not adding a flash as in the light, they're adding Flash support as in the web content
- naonao, on 02/12/2008, -1/+12Why do touch owners get treated like second class citizens? We paid good money for a device and I expect to get upgrades for free.
- chkdg8, on 02/12/2008, -0/+11Finally! We can now watch youpor....I mean youtube without a hitch! Wait a minute, I don't even own an iphone.
- colincornaby, on 02/12/2008, -0/+11From everything I've heard, developers will be allowed to code in Cocoa for the iPhone, not sandboxed web land, which is the way it should be.
- seastobble, on 02/12/2008, -2/+12neat
- theblt, on 02/12/2008, -0/+10Yucky..
- directive0, on 02/12/2008, -2/+12I see what you're saying. "My older device has this, why is this such a big deal?" Well to you its not, probably cause you don't own the product this article is about. Which leads me to ask why you bothered to read it.. but then you probably didn't read it did you? You just commented here to let everyone know how great your phone is and how bad this one is. Well thanks for stopping by.
- teqonix, on 02/12/2008, -2/+11I don't know if I care *too* much about flash, I just want Safari to stop crashing on me all the time..
- likwidfuzion, on 02/12/2008, -0/+9Get ready to pack your bags.
- inactive, on 02/12/2008, -9/+18That's fine, I guess, as long a you can turn that ***** off. ***** Flash.
- Subriot, on 02/12/2008, -0/+8If you're not being sarcastic, I thought the Wii already supported flash.
- drhead, on 02/12/2008, -1/+9Yep your the only one nerdy enough to put in that amount of time.
- JK1150, on 02/12/2008, -0/+8will talking ads go off when we are trying to browse the net in a boring meeting? i hope the vibrate only button fixes this.
- Rockmaninoff, on 02/12/2008, -0/+8=/
- FatLoser, on 02/12/2008, -1/+8ROFL... I didn't think you possibly could have called that right, but then I reread his comment and was delightfully shocked and moistened.
- dyranios2, on 02/12/2008, -5/+12So is a 1.1.4 on the way? Can we expect people to have to find work arounds for jailbreak wtc again?
- nfxmedia, on 02/12/2008, -0/+7Good catch.
- directive0, on 02/12/2008, -0/+7Not going anywhere for a while? Grab a snickers.
- FoxMcCloud, on 02/12/2008, -0/+7Flash for my iPhone... sounds good. Can we get it for Opera on Wii too?
- lelio98, on 02/12/2008, -6/+12What is the big deal about Flash? I for one, hate Flash and normally have it disabled.
- ggko, on 02/12/2008, -0/+6If the iPhone can manage H.264, I imagine Flash shouldn't be a problem.
- zointax, on 02/12/2008, -0/+6Only up to Flash 7 because Adobe hasn't released any further SDKs for "non-standard" operating systems.
- andru, on 02/12/2008, -1/+6I don't remember laughing that people could speculate that I was wrong. But hey, if that is enough to cause you to hate someone, so be it. Move on to your classier site.
- mattbeetee, on 02/12/2008, -0/+5I agree with you there - for me, in IE6 the click to activate thing was just a turn off (having to click all the time to activate YouTube videos especially) but when battery life is at stake with handhelds like this, I think it's really important.
- NyteStarNyne, on 02/12/2008, -1/+6YouPorn & RedTube, here I come!
