- seangist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1From a threats standpoint this critique is dead on. As to whether or not Apple shoud shiver in fear, I dunno. Apple's customers are fanatically loyal and one of the most cogent reasons they are loyal is the MAC OS, which isn't really addressed in this post.
- pkulak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2You hit it right on the head. I don't give a crap what Apple does apart from their OS. As long as they keep their OS up, I'll keep handing them money. If they happen to keep making cool gadgets, I may buy them too.
- ericnmu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I'm no apple fanboy, I've never owned anything apple... but this is a joke. They are really digging deep to defraud apple.
- axcess99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+31) the quarter to quarter may have declined, they are still significantly up over previous year's Q2.
2) "I have seen files open quicker on the PC than on the Mac. I have seen PCs start up faster than I have seen Macs get going. " Other points aside, when were these topics of commercials? - iBookG4, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Reason Number 4: Closed and secretiveness leads to alienation.
Pretty sure this is why they're successful, not ready to go belly up. Secrets aren't bad for Mac customers -- they expect it. - InfiniteLoop23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Reason 1 - Maybe
Reason 2 - and every other commercial on TV is truthful?
Reason 3 - Haven't seen a phone that can better the iPod/iTunes combo yet.
Reason 4 - Not letting the competiton know what you're up to.
Reason 5 - Zune? Zune, my arse. - DaffyDuck, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Reason 2 - My father is not very computer literate and has never used a Mac or any Apple product. He does own a Dell laptop that he uses for work. He owns Microsoft stock. He loves the commercials. Only Anti-Apple geeks are upset about the ads.
- Lardquake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Buy your dad a Mac.
- soundboy64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Reason 1 sales in q2 slacked off compared to q1 results, maybe because q1 results included the holiday rush...? oh just a thought...

"I have seen files open quicker on the PC than on the Mac. I have seen PCs start up faster than I have seen Macs get going."
seen that to, it was the latest alienware computer versus the Lisa from back in the days.
"Microsoft is also willing to buy you away from the iPod by allowing you to download for free all of the songs you have already bought from iTunes. Wow."
What about the iTunes exclusives? MS doesn't have those.
Lies and speculation. - NSResponder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Blogger spam. Marked as lame. Digg really needs a "STFU, STUPID" mod category.
-jcr - moisie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why do people keep talking about Zune and it's wi-fi as if it's this amazing feature? What do they think they're going to do with it?
Buy songs? Microsofts interfaces for buying songs are crap enough on a fullsize screen with a keyboard and a mouse, how hard to use will it be on a small screen?
Share songs with people? Why, if you really want to give someone a song just plug them in to a computer and copy them. Do they really think they'll be swapping files back and forth in all directions from any random stranger? Crap.
Wi-Fi will kill the battery. There is no killer reason to have it.- pkulak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Don't you know that more features will make people want a device more then the iPod? I mean, I know that everyone I know who owns an iPod is always saying, "It's cool, but man, I wish it had WiFi, and an FM radio, and voice recording, and 400 options in the menu, and made phone calls..."
- Lardquake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2pkulak: I'm not sure if you are being sarcastic here (apologies if so), but most of the iPod clones so far have tried to take market share away from Apple by piling on the features (FM and voice recording at least), with very little success so far.
The genius of the iPod is as much the features they leave out, as the features they include.
