- RedS0x, on 01/25/2008, -4/+64OMG that dude has four arms!
- potisreallygood, on 01/25/2008, -3/+58I feel sorry for the muslim guy that does this on an airplane.
- matt11885, on 01/25/2008, -22/+73my dell laptop has a switch to get its battery out > 19 screws
- NSMike, on 01/25/2008, -7/+40I love it when people buy things just to tear them apart.
/not sarcasm - Remccs, on 01/25/2008, -6/+37only 19 screws to take out and 2 people needed... simple enough
- JoeDiggsIt, on 01/25/2008, -5/+35Anyone who buys one of these is really pushing the "it's shiny so I want it" stereotype about Mac users. And for the record, my Macbook is Matte Black, so what now?
- ThatsUnpossible, on 01/25/2008, -8/+37So does my Apple laptop.
Oh wait, we're talking about the MacBook Air, not a regular laptop, I forgot.
Resume bitching. - Ireland, on 01/25/2008, -7/+29And all those folks who buy the Air can come back to this video in "3 years" time to have a fresh new battery!
- npsken, on 01/25/2008, -4/+26Looks very convenient during travel for business. This is surely the wave of the future, slide out batteries beware!
- Spanq, on 01/25/2008, -9/+23Buried for the stupid ***** music.
- Hobbes24, on 01/25/2008, -5/+18*sigh*
by sterile i meant clean, without dust and *****, and while making sure your grounded. i just thought sterile would be a quicker way of saying that.
I also thought you people would be smart enough to pick up on that. clearly i overestimated some of you - corsairstw, on 01/25/2008, -5/+18DIE DIE DIE!!!
- ChromaVita, on 01/25/2008, -0/+12Now show how to swap the harddrive out for one from the 160GB iPod.
- krnldmp, on 01/25/2008, -7/+19Pay attentions kids because if you buy a laptop too small to house an appropriately sized battery you'll be doing this a lot.
- Hobbes24, on 01/25/2008, -11/+22...yea, replacing the battery is as easy and quick as:
+finding a screwdriver,
+a clean steril surface,
+taking out a bunch of screws,
+setting the case and screws aside where you can keep track of them,
+and ordering a surplus special mac book air battery from Mac (assuming that's possible), that you keep with you at all times.
Super easy! - AmICoolNow, on 01/25/2008, -0/+10It's as easy as 1-2-3!...
4-5-6...7-8-9... - dwoloz, on 01/25/2008, -3/+13You too can replace the battery in your MacBook Air so long as you're a Hindu deity
- RedS0x, on 01/25/2008, -8/+17Well you're gonna do it...maybe once maybe twice...ever? It's not the end of the world.
Unless you carry multiple batteries...which kinda defeats the purpose of the Air anyway. - dan222555, on 01/25/2008, -4/+13Thanks, but I'd rather not have to take out 20 screws, pull the thing apart, and void my warranty in order to just replace the battery.
A click of the thumb and a battery sliding out is good enough for me. - bxblox, on 01/25/2008, -0/+9does the black one run faster?
/racist undertone - louiedog, on 01/25/2008, -1/+8Isn't the point of an ultra portable to be light enough to carry with you because you're not tethered to one spot? Isn't that a reason to have more than one battery?
- Forky, on 01/25/2008, -0/+7It's stylish black. So I want it.
- quomen, on 01/25/2008, -1/+8wtf with the Mr. Rogers "train" music?
Anyway, wouldn't opening the computer void the warranty? 19 screws isn't easy.. It's a pain in the ass. - alz0rz, on 01/25/2008, -0/+610-11-12.......13-14-15.......16-17-18...
19. - fliped, on 01/25/2008, -2/+8In three years time i think ill be buying the new macbook invisible.
- AmICoolNow, on 01/25/2008, -0/+6That was the joke. Thank you.
- petard, on 01/25/2008, -2/+8yeah I hate taking apart my Inspiron to change the battery... oh wait, I don't have to!
- ChromaVita, on 01/25/2008, -1/+6My mom got a staph infection once.
- JoeDiggsIt, on 01/25/2008, -0/+5The sad thing is... it does.
- Virgule, on 01/25/2008, -1/+6he is right. there is no room for a battery 'rack' in a thing as thin as that. Im sure of that.
- pintomp3, on 01/25/2008, -4/+9how does it defeat the purpose of the air? the idea is to get the weight down as much as possible and make it thin. many people who already have ultraportables sacrifice having optical and such but still want a spare/back up battery for long hauls.
- knetworx, on 01/25/2008, -1/+6My last two laptops cost less than that (combined), and they had DVD burners. I could also completely disassemble and reassemble them in less time, and pulling out less screws, than it takes to change the battery in a Macbook Air. I win.
- pintomp3, on 01/25/2008, -3/+8or watch the video on the airplane when they want to swap the battery out with their spare.
- ModernGeek, on 01/25/2008, -8/+12Now I understand why you can't swap them, they had to make it so flat for it to be able to fit into that small case.
- BenO169, on 01/25/2008, -1/+5I guess there's original Zelda music that plays while you take it apart. Weird
- Thread6, on 01/25/2008, -1/+5Say goodbye to your warranty.
- JoeDiggsIt, on 01/25/2008, -0/+4Touche.
- NSMike, on 01/25/2008, -1/+5Think you replied to the wrong place, son.
- astrosmash, on 01/25/2008, -3/+7Really? I was under the impression that Apple just did this to annoy people. That's what the Digg peanut gallery has been saying, anyway.
- Rahodeb, on 01/25/2008, -0/+4From what, my other computer? See, I thought when I spent $1800, I wouldn't need another one.
- DeFex, on 01/25/2008, -3/+6they make a lot of money. rechargeable cells are very cheap. this is a good way to meke them more expensive, and also bring customers back to apple store / best buy to have their hard drives checked for illegal mp3s and anti government thoughts.
- supermanred, on 01/25/2008, -2/+5My old dell: Battery life 1 hour 45 minutes.
My current Macbook Battery life 4 hours
The Macbook air (they claim 5 I say probably 4 hours.
Still, that thing equals my old Dell with a second battery, and I rarely used the second battery unless I was on a plane. - PCDestroyer, on 01/25/2008, -1/+4Me too! We should totally be friends...
- Rahodeb, on 01/25/2008, -0/+3No, you just get a second macbook air! duh...
- suckaPU, on 01/25/2008, -10/+13do you really think the majority of apple users can do that?
- Raian, on 01/25/2008, -0/+3Gizmodo has been on a roll in the "lack of taste" department for years... http://youtube.com/watch?v=mSy2uc_Cxgk why...
- smrekar, on 01/25/2008, -1/+4nope, just my airplane charger that takes the same amount of space as an extra battery. if you cant afford business class, dont buy an MBA, get a dell.
- vernsan, on 01/25/2008, -0/+3Where's the video?
- vawksel, on 01/25/2008, -1/+4And use your MacBook Air to rip the DVD's as well... oh wait. never mind.
There goes the idea of College students using this as their only machine.
Buy the extra external DVD player you say? - MrViklund, on 01/25/2008, -1/+4Buried because of gizmodo.com
