- theotheragentm, on 10/12/2007, -8/+70Did anyone else skip over all the Apple products and notice that they are now putting nipples on mannequins?
- Aurarch, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24Is anyone complaining?
- inkswamp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Creative will team up with Adidas and convince them to sue Nike for stealing their patented lacing technique.
- Jasruler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Solution: buy bigger ears.
- sundancekid503, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19Must be pretty cold in that Nike studio
- Confuzed, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19Works and its fast :)
http://smartdelivery.watchmactv.com/ondemand/desktop/151-nikeipod_20060523.mp4 - MightyGiant, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17More like, welcome to a crappy server.
- mpancha, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16the number of diggs has no relation to the number of hits to a site. And just b/c a site that is posted on digg can't carry the load, doesn't make it a crappy site. It just means a small site, on a server not meant for x amount of hits, has been posted and is buckling under the weight.
Its no indication of a bad site, server, or otherwise. - fourfive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15who runs bra-less?
- xcheats, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13I find it hard to believe the crappy stock iPod headphones will stay put in your ear through all that running. I have an iPod with the stock headphoens and they barely stay in when I walk, let alone jog.
- Snyder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12@mikeazorin
Spinning hard drives and running don't mix. - GoodOlClint, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I noticed that when I was in a nike store in vegas a few weeks ago.
did a double take on the first couple I saw - deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Looks great. I find it much easier to stay motivated in exercise if I can get some stats. It's sort of the RPG angle at work. I love useless stats.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8in order to jog, i would have to leave the the pc , is that possible?
- downwiththeking, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6This is a product I plan on getting! Very innovative and practical...something not so common anymore.
- buss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Fun fact: That guy's chinese tatoo says something roughly equivalent to "Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit." I'm referring to the guy in the movie, by the way. http://smartdelivery.watchmactv.com/ondemand/desktop/151-nikeipod_20060523.mp4 that movie

Works, but slow. - msprout, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This looks to be a pretty great product.
I just hope to death that the little sensor isn't made the same quality as the rest of Nike's shoes.
Chance has it, it'd stop working because you crushed it. Somehow. - Olle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5While I think that this is a cool thing, in essence, I'm wondering if they chose the shoe inlay to tie it to Nike. So that Nike can sell more products.
I'd rather buy a product that was a GPS receiver, that connects to my iPod that records GPS coordinates at 5 second intervals or something like that. That way it'd work equally well for running, skating and riding the bike, or hiking. It might be more expensive, but it doesn't have to be prohibitively expensive. It needs no memory and no screen. It just needs a GPS positioning device and an iPod connector. A quick search found one for $77 and it had a screen and buttons. So $50 might not be unresonable. That is only about twice of the Nike product.
But then again, Nike couldn't sell any shoes.
It could record your position every 5 seconds or something and with that you'd be able to reasonably well determine the distance you have travelled and the time it took. And when you come home you can plug it in and it can show you the route you took using Google Maps or some proprietary map technology.
There is so much interesting stuff you could get out of that. It could show how many calories you are spending on different parts of your route for instance. It can take uphill and downhill into consideration. It can show you where you took breaks. It could suggest alternate routes with less hills but same distance. This is just from the top of my head, but get 5 creative people in a room for 5 days and I'm sure that they can come up with a list of many much more clever applications.
Some of those services that these 5 creative people could surely be pay for use services so that could help make money for some company as well.
Now, also make a simple API so that 3rd party products can use the lists that is downloaded from the iPod and watch your 3rd party market explode and see your product move into niches that you hadn't considered yourself.
Man, who as vent cap? I'm all fired up here. - leohart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You mean now the NSA can see where you are jogging and what song you are listening to as well?
Better choose you song wisely when jogging around the Pentagon my friend ;-) - mkoko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@tavisjohn... why don't you just get a girlfriend?
- lintmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"According to the Apple Store representative I talked to today, "Running with a video iPod will cut 2 years off of its life"."
18 months - 24 months = -6 months - longofest, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6just because people don't digg it doesn't mean they don't visit the site. I know a lot of people who use digg for what it is... a way to get the news. They don't necessarily sign up and contribute to the digg process. They just go to the front page and see the news.
Another point: Remember that digg is only ADDING traffic to the site. They still have the other sites that are pointing to them (i saw this on a couple of mac sites before it was submitted here) - philcloh2o, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Treadmill ftw!
- tsar04, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4ive tried jogging with them in a few times, they sometimes sorta stay in, but after a little while they start getting really uncomfortable and annoying...they may work for some people but not me
- electronicmaji, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4this looks really interesting so
first competitor to try to claim adidas?
Creative? Sansink? Sony? Rio? - sinembarg0, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5http://www.apple.com/ipod/nike/
- toppur, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Reuters news story (press "Spila"):
http://mbl.is/mm/frettir/togt/frett.html?nid=1203387 - cwoolf34, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I hope someone finds a way to replace the battery, because it says the battery is not replaceable, meaning you need to buy a whole new kit every time. That means you have to throw out a perfectly good WiFi device because they are greedy bastards.
- rebz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3get the teardrop ones, those are very comfy (i own a pair)
- thechitowncubs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i wonder how accurate the distance measurement is
- monofonik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wait, so it's ONLY compatible with the Nano? I mean, I realize most runners would own a Nano, but still. Give us 5G users some looove.
- PathDaemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3And then how do you plan to start, stop, add a marker, or exit the stopwatch all by mashing any key?
- Ollin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Thats a nifty gadget I wouldn't mind having, I get my music and stats about myself too which is cool :)
- heimtommy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3nah...wont load in the duggmirror site either...
- RadiatedAnt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@PathDaemon Mash morsecode into it ;)
- zweben, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No, what he's saying is that taking a photograph of a screen is not what a screenshot is.
You can't get a screenshot of an iPod afaik, so that would either be a mockup or a photograph, but it's stupid to take a photo of something on your computer screen. Although if it's unauthorized there's a reason for using that method. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Apple should fix the Stopwatch program on the iPods first.
I've used my Nano for semi-short-distance running before and it's truly a pain in the ass to hit the center button while crossing over a marker.
I'd prefer having a "MASH ANY KEY(S)" option for starting/stopping/laps. - ccanni1028, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2RadiatedAnt - All you need is a Dremel. It's not that hard. It would work with almost any pair of sneakers.
- foshaug, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Haven't that been around for ages?
- seethermtx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Great idea and great product... but what about those of us who don't have Nanos?
From all indications it looks Nano only. I already know I plan on skipping the $100 shoes. I like New Balances (comfy on the feet and wallet!), and I've never modded a running shoe before. Should be interesting. - mikeazorin, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5That actually looks real cool, although a bit of a downer it's for nano only. It's not like the video iPods are too big for running.
- ccanni1028, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1mikeazorin - According to the Apple Store representative I talked to today, "Running with a video iPod will cut 2 years off of its life".
- xcheats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'd switch, but every company has the stupid thing where it makes a "Y" at the neck and one earphone is longer than the other.
- ccanni1028, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1RadiatedAnt - Try clicking the right [reply] button.
monofonic - 5G iPods use spinning hard drives. These can not be used for running. #1, it would make the music skip. #2, it will decrease the life of the iPod significantly. - ccanni1028, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You have to buy the sensors separate from the shoes. The sensor + iPod receiver will run ~$30, replacement sensors (batteries are not replacable) will be $10-$15.
- longofest, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1can you be any more troll-like? do you really have to be that picky between calling pictures of a screen "screenshots"?
- andreas1999, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1you guys never seen nipples on mannequins? you must live in Iraq or something. It's been around for quite some time now..
- streak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Black workout clothing for the summertime, eh? Good way to lose a few extra pounds of water weight... and maybe suffer a heat stroke! Heh, those "mannequins" were real people, until they dried up.
