- inactive, on 01/16/2008, -8/+59Eh, still not worth $1800 in my opinion.
- TheWorm, on 01/16/2008, -2/+47Hate to say this, because I love Apple, and was hoping to be awed this Macworld, but the Air is for rich women who don't need to do very much on their computers.
No one who cares about the computer aspect is going to buy this computer simply because it's too expensive for not enough power, not enough functionality, and doesn't really do anything that the slightly thicker macbooks can't. I really think you're paying a premium, and losing, just so you can have that razor thin case.
It's damned sexy, but I'm just not sure who will buy it in the large market. Anyone who has pre-ordered one like to rationalize to me their purchase? - suo97119, on 01/16/2008, -3/+39AIR = Cloverfield Monster
- inactive, on 01/16/2008, -17/+52What a piece...of ***** useless *****.
- IronGoldfish, on 01/16/2008, -9/+44There's no doubt that it is a great looking product. I'm just not certain of the usefulness. I'm interested to see how it sells.
- sherbertbones, on 01/16/2008, -11/+43What a waste of money. Who is weak enough to think that the Macbook or Macbook Pro is heavy? Bells and whistles...
- BLyn, on 01/16/2008, -11/+40Anyone else already sick of talking about Steve's new toy?
- saucedmike, on 01/16/2008, -2/+29Now slap the multi-touch into a normal macbook and I'll be a customer.
- infectthefrets, on 01/16/2008, -6/+30Too thin. I could break that thing in half.
- kavery, on 01/16/2008, -1/+24"fresh as a newborn baby still covered in afterbirth..."
Hallmark will be calling soon. - TheWorm, on 01/16/2008, -1/+18One more thing, is that it's not even useful on the sub-notebook level because it still has the same length by width surface area of the Macbook. It still has that mid-range 13.3 inch screen. I ask again, who is the audience?
- bigdoof, on 01/16/2008, -1/+16Gotta love the beveling on the bottom of the casing. Looks artificially thin when photographed or viewed from most angles, but wastes tons of space that, other than detracting from its perceived width, would have no other detrimental effect. There's easily room for more than one USB port, ethernet jack, and...gasp...maybe even a release mechanism for the battery! But when a product is based entirely on image, but I guess basic functionality takes a back seat.
- gordonf238, on 01/16/2008, -4/+17Wow, amazing, simply amazing. The video that is. It's so much better than the hi-res photos we've seen.
NOTTTTT! - Shaem1, on 01/16/2008, -0/+11With your ass!
By sitting on it of course - Weather, on 01/16/2008, -1/+10What a bargain...
- inactive, on 01/16/2008, -0/+9I don't get it.
- hit9ent, on 01/16/2008, -1/+10***** YOU APPLE! and to think i was a fanboy.
- TheWorm, on 01/16/2008, -1/+9Yes but one of the least intriguing aspects of the laptop is that the SSD Flash drive also runs you upwards of 3000 dollars. Prices Apple laptops haven't seen since the days of the 15 inch titanium powerbooks and the original 17 inch powerbook.
- ryanonfire, on 01/16/2008, -0/+8No one does...
- karladam, on 01/16/2008, -0/+8What are you smoking? 699-799? Have you seen the laptops at that price point? This machine has a custom battery, custom case, custom keyboard, custom motherboard, custom RAM built into that motherboard, custom multi-touch trackpad, custom micro-DVI port, etc. What planet do you live on where the economies of scale work out to $699-799, or that it would even be $399 per unit to make?
- meridian300, on 01/16/2008, -6/+13Lol, Apple could release turds in the shape of iPods and you Sheep would buy it.
- arzthaus, on 01/16/2008, -2/+9YES
- willdelaney, on 01/16/2008, -1/+8Yes. I could find hundreds of things i'd rather spend $1800 on, instead of a 13.3'' laptop with and 80gb HDD and a 1.6ghz processor with a totally closed shell and no optical drive...
- Dylson, on 01/16/2008, -2/+9YES
- Stunn, on 01/16/2008, -0/+6The laptop looks like something I'd find as a prop at a furniture store. It looks fake.
- Dylson, on 01/16/2008, -2/+8Don't be an idiot. The same thing has been said about the ipod nano but that thing holds its own.
- inactive, on 01/16/2008, -5/+10No cd drive. But i can access cds from pc's or macs already setup. Doesnt this wreck the whole ultra portable idea if i need to be around other computers to simply load a new cd onto my laptop. Oh and when i take my ultra portable laptop on my bussiness trip to my hotel and need to grab somthing off the net OMG i have no ethernet so i can connect to the net. wow really good idea.
- Chirp08, on 01/16/2008, -0/+5then why did you even click on this article? Oh yeah, you're the type guy who starts ***** for no reason, my mistake..
- jfowler27, on 01/16/2008, -0/+5And make it more expensive?
- ryanonfire, on 01/16/2008, -2/+7where could i purchase one of these iTurds?
- ryanonfire, on 01/16/2008, -1/+6No i like the new mac frisbee.
- karladam, on 01/16/2008, -0/+5Japanese people, the same ones for whom the Sony Vaio TX exists in the first place.
- inactive, on 01/16/2008, -1/+6What a complete and utter letdown this macworld Kenote was. I mean come on, a reaaaaly thin notebook ? Woop-dee-doo.. Where's the utilization of their new found experience in touch technology ? Apple strength is their ability to integrate a product, and a tablet from mac integrated with Leopard, would surely be a totally awesome product and blow away all the competition, but this ? Excuse my language , but why the ***** would I want this thing?
- Sedako, on 01/16/2008, -2/+6Uhh, how the hell is $1800 cheap?
- specialbuddy1, on 01/16/2008, -2/+6What is the thing connected to the laptop? Is that an external drive? It's so thin and so small and you have to connect this external drive to view cd's and dvd's. Pretty impressive still but for the price you could just get 5 Asus Eee Laptops instead:)
- Roundbadge, on 01/16/2008, -0/+4This video - taken by a Social Media Expert!
- inactive, on 01/16/2008, -1/+5"the fact that I'm mainly doing word-processing and programming" If that's the usage your counting on, why not something thing like an eepc? Or an old iBook even.
If you just wanna look cool, get a new pair of pants xD - inactive, on 01/16/2008, -1/+5Oh and no speakers.. I will have to carry some with me if i want to watch my cool home movies on my ultra portable laptop. God as if you wouldnt pay the extra cash and get a mac pro. This is the opposite of advancement on technology. Lower specs more price. Have fun fan boys.
- frank26080115, on 01/16/2008, -1/+5It's a single mono speaker on the side of the case, i forgot whether it was gizmodo or engadget who said it sounded funny.
- ryanonfire, on 01/16/2008, -2/+61. Buy Air Mac
2. Film Air Mac getting snapped in half
3. Post on Break.com
4. ????
5. Profit? - tupperbacharach, on 01/16/2008, -1/+5I trust that you are not naive enough to believe that this Mac is the first laptop with a solid state drive?
- Karmavs, on 01/16/2008, -1/+4thin ≠ weak. The closest product to the Air, material & thickness wise, is their keyboard - & I'd like to see someone try to break one of those
- Rekutyn, on 01/16/2008, -0/+3Just a thinner margin *du-dum-ch*
- aimhelix, on 01/16/2008, -1/+4Fail.
- TripleAStacked, on 01/16/2008, -0/+3definitely going to need Warranty with this one.
- meridian300, on 01/16/2008, -1/+4Thanks Borat.
- inactive, on 01/16/2008, -1/+4I hear Apple staged their own Q&A sessions.
- quamb, on 01/16/2008, -1/+4Funny how emotional the comments here are. All over a laptop!
- TheWorm, on 01/16/2008, -1/+4Wow, a mono speaker on the side....more reasons I don't want this computer. It can't even do entertainment well.
- brihar73, on 01/16/2008, -0/+3Okay... Where's YOUR video? At least give them credit for trying.
