- unruled, on 10/12/2007, -14/+20wow... digg post with the most burried comments ever.
yes, im sure I will be joining them soon. - Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -26/+32I appreciate Gizmodo doing a video, but why didn't those idiots in the background shut the hell up.
/The softwate seems to have no lag which is really great. - stealthboy, on 10/12/2007, -8/+11... oh, and that brand new invention called the "tripod". Look into it.
- randf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2was that a special "coffee house" sound effect added to the background or did they actually plan on having retards in the background talk over the commentary?
thanks for taking 4 minutes of my life i will never get back - randf, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1what's going on here? not simpsons related but everything is being dugg down?
- nfxmedia, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I agree. This is actually unbearable.
- nerditup, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1That's exactly what I was thinking too, I was guessing they could do it with a firmware update. Maybe ipod-linux or rockbox or whatever could come up with something? Ideas for all you programmers..
- Radan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Holy crap that's a lot of buried posts. Anyway, personally I think that, that movie was really useless. The image quality was bad, it was nearly impossible to hear what they were trying to say, and most importantly, they didn't actually show anything interesting, like what screensavers it has or how you play movies on it, or if there's any delay or anything.
Anyhow, as soon as Apple releases movie downloads in Sweden I'm definitely going to buy one. - opinionist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I just rec'd and quickly installed AppleTV. Expected it via fedex tomorrow and it came today.
The install is bloody simple and seamless. All I can say is Holy F*cking *****. I love it.
I used to use AirportExpress to stream audio to the house stereo system. Now I have music videos, movies, curb ur enthusiasm etc etc and the Mrs finally gets to see the digital pictures I've never bothered to print.
I agree it's 'just' a way to get content off iTunes and my mac ... and into the living room. It does it very very well and I'm bloody ecstatic.
R - rowlodge, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1seems to have crashed at the end...
- sjgmoney, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Congrats to you, now you've finally caught up to my Tivo which has been doing the same for the last year. Oh, wait a minute, AppleTV doesn't come with a DVR does it, cancel that thought.
- SVPirate, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Ouch - so many negative vibes here!
- r2builder, on 10/12/2007, -11/+10Not unless someone finds a way to alter the firmware (which might happen, but not anytime soon)
the appleTV will play anything that iTunes can play, so you'll need to convert all your porn into h264 for the time being. - deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -10/+9I'd suggest just re-ripping your content into h264. It's much better supported than Xvid or Divx and there are free encoders that do a great job. I really don't see any compelling reason to stick with Xvid over h264 anymore. The only lingering issue is encode times but that's a small price to pay in the long run.
- Wonkanobi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1In America, Apple TV sets up you!
- svenjick, on 10/12/2007, -8/+7This video was a waste of my time (besides, if you "have" to film this, make sure you've got some light in the room, and someone who can handle the camcorder!)
- PaperMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -8/+7I seem to recall seeing a 3rd party dock on the Apple store that had menu functionality on your tv at least but it was in the neighbourhood of about C$300 so on one hand it's not so bad but on the other, when you can get an Apple A/V kit for C$120 (+tax of course...) suddenly me having to get up and walk across the room doesn't seem so bad.
Having said that, when the prices come down and the menu functionality improves I have every intention of upgrading (although unless I am completely mistaken, they should be able to enable much of that with a firmware update on the iPod... I mean you have to tell it to send the video down the line so why not have a similar option for all output to the screen...? That way you don't have to design any new interface, you just have to make sure that the remote interface has all of the appropriate functionality.) - hollywoodcole, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Think I will wait till someone hacks this so I can play my non-iTunes movies over it!
- mpancha, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2.... just being the first video of an Apple TV in use shouldn't be enough to get on the front page... or any digg page for that matter. That was probably the most pointless video product demo I've ever seen.
- ThankTheCheese, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5Is it just me or did they seem to edit the video to show only the negative aspects. They did not show or say one nice thing or even show it playing music or video. It started with them complaining about the cables, then cut to him saying "initial setup takes well over a minute", then cuts soon after to him complaining that he couldn't view a video while it was syncing... I"m sorry but that was a windows user who clearly was not in the frame of mind to give the Apple TV a chance. This seems to be a trend with Gizmodo.
- nerditup, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5This is what I hoped my iPod would be able to do with the dock, but to a lesser extent (obviously). I wish the ipod + dock combo could output a media center style interface for the tv, otherwise what good is the remote other than play and pause. It would be cool to have your music and album artwork on the tv. Im sure the iPod has enough power to do it. Does anyone know of anything??
- dignick, on 10/12/2007, -9/+7That guy depressed me just listening to him.
- blakeley, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1thank you!
- penneyisok, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3This was the first time and the worst:
http://www.digg.com/videos/comedy/Bart_Simpson_s_Heart_Attack
Its currently 179 days old with 691 comments all still being dugg down. Not a single positive digg. - uofmpike, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Is that Beck setting up the AppleTV? Nice celeb guest Gizmodo!
- Vasant56, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0but does it blend?
- jordn, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2since the website is down i think ill take a moment to LOL at the number of dugg-down comments :D
- tzon, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Who's Scott Thompson?
- Trioxin, on 10/12/2007, -14/+11Sometimes its nice when stuff just works and I don't have to worry about being tech support in my own house.
- stockjones, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Lol most burried comments in a thread ever. Perhaps the hype is overbearing. Dont upset the Apple peoples.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rw2nkoGLhrE - unabonger, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2so, consider me completely ignorant and have not done any research on this appletv thing... is it basically a front end for iTunes running on a seperate box attached to a tv? So, its limitations are iTunes limitations?
- Tenoq, on 10/12/2007, -15/+1160Hz is standard, 50Hz is the option. It'll do both.
- pmdones01, on 10/12/2007, -12/+8just a reminder I know i sound crazy and i know that this topic has nothing to do with the Fanboy war, but i'm just going to pull a cartman and start yelling "RACE WAR"!!!!!! EVERYONE GATHER AROUND!!! RACE WAR!!!!
- r2builder, on 10/12/2007, -13/+9I can't believe they're trying to sell this in the UK, where we don't even have TV shows in the iTunes music store. The only video content we have is music videos, and pixar short films.
I'd consider buying this if the UK store was as vast as other international stores, until then I plan to torrent my video files, and use the HDMI link from my MacBook Pro to watch them. - goodbeershow, on 10/12/2007, -11/+7Will this thing do xviid? You know, the fun stuff.
- Tcnorman, on 10/12/2007, -11/+6This thing looks cool. It has a lot of potential to be unbelievable. But for now, its cool.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+650 Hz is for PAL.
- sesante2000, on 10/12/2007, -13/+8Ah yes, Come to DIGG.COM for all your Anti-Apple idiots.
- bobbothegrayson, on 10/12/2007, -10/+5There have been worse, my friend. Actually, this has been happening a lot lately. Maybe they're depressed by that guys voice. :P
- craig4, on 10/12/2007, -18/+13apple tv you mean? :D
- Namesbond, on 10/12/2007, -9/+4This is my first apple purchase and I can't wait. And I am a long time apple hater.
- Powerdrift, on 10/12/2007, -11/+6Everyone is being dugg down... fun.
- bsnatch, on 10/12/2007, -10/+4looks pretty sweet but i'll pass on it till the hacks come out for divx/xvid/non iTMS playback support.
- bsnatch, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3you obviously have a disagreeing viewpoint of apple tv and while you're entitled to your opinion, it sounds like you're trying to bait me. ;)
- justnick, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3What looks better? The setup process? Sure.
- raymore, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3How does that "look sweet"? Please elaborate.
- AngelBunny, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3It actually looks a lot better then I expected. It will be interesting to see how it fares in the market when it comes out.
- salmonmoose, on 10/12/2007, -11/+5"The softwate seems to have no lag which is really great."
Except for the apparent "Hey! you're viewing photos, so I'll break the network sync!" - Tcnorman, on 10/12/2007, -14/+8Some of us are.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Yes.
