- bcochran, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24Well, they are a company and that's kind of the point.
- gmillerd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9$29? Thats the retail cost of most of the cables involved by and large. I am not too worried about that.
- SLP1111, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"...and does not include a video port (unused by the nanos)"
I used the video port on my nano for viewing photo slideshows on my TV.. - Fett101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7$30 for a dock :O I'm always shocked when I see that price.
- xoineg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6$30 is not bad...unless you are cheap...if you are, why do you want nice things?...go to walmart instead and get a regular casette player...hey no DRM in there!!!
- sinembarg0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The port on the ipod it a headphone port you ass. Line out doesn't go through any internal amplification (in the ipod) and sounds better when you run it through a stereo system.
- drogers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2
when you buy a computer, do you buy a seperate docking station to plug everything into?
Umm, yeah - http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&cs=19&sku=310-2913
unless of course you'd rther not use one... That's why they're called 'optional' accessories. - jeriqo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Heh ? can't you just use the one on the player itself?
- gmillerd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well sort of DRM free ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blank_media_tax#United_States
- SonofMaug, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The larger dock is a universal iPod dock which accepts inserts to fit different iPods (the nano does come with an insert by the way). The additional port is an S-video port to disply pictures and video if you choose.
- hyukhyuk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Oops, I should add that only the iPods with dock connectors had the free dock.
According to Wikipedia, the 5G was when they stopped bundling the dock and charger so maybe I am wrong. - hyukhyuk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yes, iPods included charger, dock and case (along with earbud headphones) up until the 4G was released two years ago. That's when the price dropped and the accessories became optional
- ThirdPrize, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Waddya mean digging me down? That was satire doncha know.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1SLP1111:
Neither iPod nano outputs TV signals.
You most emphatically did not use the video port on your iPod nano to view your slideshows on your TV. nano slideshows are onscreen only. - HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wikipedia is wrong.
The mini came out before the 4G even and it didn't come with a dock. - fanboydcs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1cool, I needed a line output for my car..
- DocNo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Belkin has a great dock based car charger that also provides line output.
One cable to your iPod provides power and audio - I love mine... - yathosho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1does anybody know an article yet about the new displays? are they as scratch sensitive as the previous nanos?
- spazzium, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you need a line input for your car don't get a huge freaking dock.

Great product.
Personally I was very annoyed that my new ipod didn't fit into the nano dock I already had. - crashingechelon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, when I got the 4G 40gig iPod it came with the dock, both firewire and usb2.0 cables, and the wall charger. It was still at the 400 dollar price point but yeah, all the iPods now don't come with anything, just the head phones and usb2.0 and a software cd.
- Qoogirl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I am sort of surprised that the iPods don't come with "stands" or "docks," actually. I bought a Creative Zen Micro last year and it came with a holding bag, power cord, extra battery and a stand/dock to keep the player upright while charging or connecting to the computer.
I guess I just assumed from Apple's advertisements on its website for Macbook+iPod deals that the dock was included. Silly me. Was there ever a time that iPod sales included the docks (not the ones with IR sensors, just a plain old "stand"). - Fett101, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3"$30 is not bad...unless you are cheap..."
Plastic. Wires. Some connectors. It's $5 or materials and $25 design. I bet you paid $30 for 5" A/V cables with "24k gold contacts"
Anyway, there's no DRMed music on my iPod. - Dinogle, on 04/15/2009, -0/+0Nice Dock. I have an old nano, but I own a newly-bought iPod Touch now. Luckily this all-in-one (iPod to iPod, iPod to iTunes and iPod to PC) transfer program helped me get my music from my old iPod onto it http://ipod-tool.com/ipod-software/joboshare-ipod- ...
- ShrimpCrackers, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2@Gillmerd
Its the cost of extremely extremely extremely expensive cables. I crimp my own cables for a $15,000 sound system and only in these extreme circumstances are the cables that pricey.
OR you could have been buying from Best Buy, in which we all know the 1000%+ markup on cables provide the highest profits in the electronics department. - mediaphile, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1usually when i buy nice stuff it comes with stuff like this included. when you buy a computer, do you buy a seperate docking station to plug everything into?
- d2nd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0especially once you consider it will only work with 2nd gen nano's. I agree the docks are overpriced, but I could undertand buying a full size dock. This just seems absurd, the fit is so tight that original nanos wont fit, forget about using a skin/case (original nano dock didnt work with most skins either)
- nroose, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Why were there 2 different ones in the last photo? The one on the left has an additional port. What is that port?
- justnick, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I thought it was funny. Don't complain when you get modded down for making a joke about apple. Apple fanatics here don't have a sense of humor. I find the funniest jokes in the modded down comments. So sad. Grow up and learn to laugh a little people. It's good for you.
- zenmouse, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4WHY IS THIS ON THE FRONT PAGE? It's a freaking ipod dock people. I swear Apple could stamp its symbol onto a ballpoint pen and it would show up as 'breaking news.' This fanboyism is really getting ridiculous.
- ThirdPrize, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4Yes please. The iPen. $20 and you can't change the ink when it runs out.
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Very cool! I was never going to get a dock, but I have my iPod 5G a year, and I now know how useful one could be. I'm selling the 5G iPod, as I don't use the video enough. I'm buying a blue nano, with a dock. Very cool indeed!
- theciuffo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1it looks really cool, but in all actuality, not only does the iPod nano have its own 30 pin connector, but it actually has a built in line-out jack (very rare).
...yeah, I bought a dock, SO!?! - ipodman715, on 10/12/2007, -23/+3Yep, it's so Apple can make more $.
