First Looks: Apple Computer iPod nano Dock (Second-Generation)

ilounge.com — As before, its smaller-than-standard-iPod-Dock casing includes only a line-out audio port and a Dock Connector port for data transfers, and does not include a video port (unused by the nanos), an IR remote sensor, or any ability to work with other iPods. Even the prior iPod nano doesn't fit inside.

  • SonofMaug, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The larger dock is a universal iPod dock which accepts inserts to fit different iPods (the nano does come with an insert by the way). The additional port is an S-video port to disply pictures and video if you choose.

    According to Wikipedia, the 5G was when they stopped bundling the dock and charger so maybe I am wrong.

    You most emphatically did not use the video port on your iPod nano to view your slideshows on your TV. nano slideshows are onscreen only.

    Personally I was very annoyed that my new ipod didn't fit into the nano dock I already had.
  • crashingechelon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, when I got the 4G 40gig iPod it came with the dock, both firewire and usb2.0 cables, and the wall charger. It was still at the 400 dollar price point but yeah, all the iPods now don't come with anything, just the head phones and usb2.0 and a software cd.

I bought a Creative Zen Micro last year and it came with a holding bag, power cord, extra battery and a stand/dock to keep the player upright while charging or connecting to the computer.

    I guess I just assumed from Apple's advertisements on its website for Macbook+iPod deals that the dock was included. Silly me. Was there ever a time that iPod sales included the docks (not the ones with IR sensors, just a plain old "stand").

    Plastic. Wires. Some connectors. It's $5 or materials and $25 design. I bet you paid $30 for 5" A/V cables with "24k gold contacts"

    Anyway, there's no DRMed music on my iPod.

    Its the cost of extremely extremely extremely expensive cables. I crimp my own cables for a $15,000 sound system and only in these extreme circumstances are the cables that pricey.

    OR you could have been buying from Best Buy, in which we all know the 1000%+ markup on cables provide the highest profits in the electronics department.

  • d2nd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0especially once you consider it will only work with 2nd gen nano's. I agree the docks are overpriced, but I could undertand buying a full size dock. This just seems absurd, the fit is so tight that original nanos wont fit, forget about using a skin/case (original nano dock didnt work with most skins either)

  • Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Very cool! I was never going to get a dock, but I have my iPod 5G a year, and I now know how useful one could be. I'm selling the 5G iPod, as I don't use the video enough. I'm buying a blue nano, with a dock. Very cool indeed!

    ...yeah, I bought a dock, SO!?!
