Facebook Sync
fsbsoftware.com — FacebookSync syncs your Apple Address Book with data from your Facebook account. Specifically, it pulls down your friends' names, emails, AIM, mobile phone number, and photo. Adds missing photos, inserts missing information, and adds missing records to your Apple AddressBook.

- bomg31, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16this software is in beta at best, but it DOES work, and it deserves some attention, I acutally wanted to write this program myself a while back. mad props :)
- kingkilr, on 11/12/2007, -18/+1My first instinct is that this is the exact thing adobe is trying to make with their Apollo app.
- UberNick, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8@kinkilr
Apollo is simply a tool that turns web-based Flex apps into full desktop applications. I don't see what this and the article have to do with each other. Are you referring to one of the sample Apollo projects? - kingkilr, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1Well. one of the apollo apps they demo'd was you would drag a vCard onto it and it would parse the data and then get you a google map to that location(from wherver you set as home), this seems to be taking the data stream the other way within that frame work. It takes internet and parses it into a vCard.
- transversed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5In the early days of FB you could download all your friends contact info in vcard format and send it strait to address book. This app is only catching up to what the FB admins took away.
- Iwantawii, on 10/12/2007, -6/+5Fantastic!
- jkleinfeld, on 10/12/2007, -19/+1yes, now the government can track us even more!
seriously, just don't use facebook
- jkleinfeld, on 10/12/2007, -19/+1yes, now the government can track us even more!
- Lounger540, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2I was going to write this exact type of program when they first announced the Facebook API, but the first API sucked and I realized Objective-C was going to be a bitch to learn during school. So, I'm really glad someone else did it because it's an awesome idea for a way to easily fill your address book.
- aychamo, on 10/12/2007, -6/+19So basically you weren't going to do anything, because you don't know how to do any of it. Wow, you sure almost pulled it off!
- Lounger540, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3No Mr. Sarcasm, actually I did come up with the idea, submitted it to the Facebook dev page, and started to write it in C++ and Carbon but decided I wanted to write my first OS X app in Cocoa so put it off until after I finish my CS degree next month. I was simply saying I'm glad some one else did this though as it really helped fill out the wholes in my contacts database. I've tried it on both my macs and it works great. I would love to contribute to the project too if the author releases the source.
- mklopez, on 10/12/2007, -6/+30Is there anything similar to this for Windows? Or for other address book services (like Yahoo, Gmail, etc) ?
- ATLien, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7I don't use apple computers, but this is just cool!
- jads, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4for beta software, I've had absolutely no problems with it. With most sync software, I was expecting it to default all email address to 'home' etc, but it even categorised all the contact details correctly. Awesome stuff!
- marmanold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Awesome! I always wanted to have my friends photos in my address book, but never got around to getting their pictures. This is perfect!
- ShtrMcGavin, on 10/12/2007, -9/+1Great.. one more way to stalk your friends
- ajdl1925, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Just used it and it works quite well. Pleased with it especially as it ported over the display pictures too... Now I wonder how safe my password is now...
- ogmak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1amazing...
- McTendo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8My Ubuntu cries for this. :*(
- wiihuck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10i just used it. it worked well. it went through each of my contacts from facebook, and if there was info missing from a contact that was already in my address book it asked if i wanted to add the info or ignore. if the contact wasn't in my address book, it asked if i wanted to add or ignore. i just checked my address book and it worked well.
i did learn, though, that i have too many non-friend "friends" on facebook...- kyl3, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I came to a similar conclusion... and those who are actual friends don't have their phone numbers and whatnot in their profiles anyways.
- aliceinreality, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it hasn't asked me about every person on facebook, but reloading the application seems to make it find new people.
maybe fixed in later versions? still an awesome app though.
- insanemike, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Nothing else to say other than: totally awesome
- catalysis, on 10/17/2007, -1/+28Now all I need are some friends.
- kd5ftn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Damnit, I was just looking for something to do this yesterday and only found one site that no longer exists: http://www.facebookdownloader.com/ I wish this was on Digg sooner!
- operamatic, on 10/12/2007, -8/+0I don't know why you would want the government to have access to you and your network of friends info, but hey all the cool kids are doing it right?
http://www.a2planet.com/adam/2007/03/the_truth_about_facebook.html - joeycerone, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3the program closes for me after I login to facebook.
anyone else having this problem? or any tips on how to get it to work?- willpatterson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i'm having the same problem
- vatchea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2this happened to me, it closed after logging in. When I opened it again, it started the download!
- fleetskeet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It says on the download page not to login to facebook while using it.
- drspringfield, on 10/17/2007, -0/+2Hi, I'm the developer. Check out version 1.2 at http://fsbsoftware.com which fixes this problem (related to large friend count). Looks like you have too many friends for your own good!
- mastersarg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is awesome I've been thinking about how cool a program like this would be... now only if there was one for syncing Facebook to iCal so that I could then sync my events to my cell... *drule*
- ExSlashdotter, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Yeah, same here. I've got two intel macs on 10.4.9, both have the same problem.
Are you on intel or PPC?
edit: damnit, reply meant for joeycerone
- ExSlashdotter, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Yeah, same here. I've got two intel macs on 10.4.9, both have the same problem.
- singletrack861, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Holy crap. This is one of the best pieces of free software I've ever used.
- lessew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Works perfect.
- fongzulu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I think the next big thing for facebook is too link picasaweb and iphoto for more pictures, easy upload thingy
- fleetskeet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They already have an iPhoto export plugin for facebook.
- zmigliozzi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2amazing, why didnt anyone think of this before?!
- unusualFall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4fongzulu: like this? iPhoto -> Facebook exporter: http://blog.facebook.com/blog.php?post=2253657130
- Phusion, on 10/12/2007, -16/+2This is a fantastic tool! Oh, wait, it's for Mac, it's .. uhm what's that word? Not fantastic?
How about a _real_ app that pulls said data from outlook/office/gmail/yahoo?- avihappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Apple Address book is a "real" app. It is a huge part of OS X, in that all apps can read from it and then use it to things. Mac users have "real" apps too you know, Jackass.
- theseventhyear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5thats great! but it dawned on me that about 80% of the friends on my facebook im never going to call and didnt upload them. wow
- whistlerpro, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1MySpace Sync?
- Jarhead085, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Now my path to being a facebook creeper is complete.
- markdregan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is like Plaxo but for students! I much prefer it.
- blueigloo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Works great, awesome work!
- rhnaccounts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Get it while you can. Very likely to be zapped by Facebook. They put the kibosh on Facebook Downloader and 1 other windows-based Facebook downloader within the last year.
- jackmaninov, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't see why they would pull the plug on this. It's using their API, as are tons of other apps (see http://developers.facebook.com/products.php).
I would suspect that the other products you mention were HTML rippers. Facebook probably doesn't want that, as it can't control it. Plus they would break every time Facebook changed its layout significantly; the Facebook developers wouldn't want people using stuff that seems broken. - djjoelyd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0have you got a copy of this app plleeeeassseee !
- jackmaninov, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't see why they would pull the plug on this. It's using their API, as are tons of other apps (see http://developers.facebook.com/products.php).
- commongiga, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This app works, but is definitely not very efficient or convenient to use. I love the idea of this app, and it seems like they have the nuts and bolts of it together, but a better UI would be nice. Maybe a checklist of people who you would like to sync with Address Book would make it a little better.
- astav, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1get a blank login window... nothing loads... anyone else have this problem?
- npulido, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Check out these other Facebook additions that are mac friendly!
http://macnewsonline.com/wp/the-socially-networked-mac/ - PandaWear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This program worked like a charm. Thanks for taking the time to write it. It would be nice to have a little bit more say when selecting friends to add, especially if they're already in your Address Book under a nickname.
- adamawick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If only my friends used better pictures of their faces as their profiles on--gasp!--facebook!
What about having an option to crop them during import like AddressBook doe? - Legolover64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Weird, mine starts and asks for login info, but then doesn't move beyond there and crashes...
No problem though, this is a definite download when it's out of beta! - PHovey, on 11/12/2007, -0/+2I feel like such a lazy stalker.
- ianmccoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0good show, man!
- TheCheeks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1love how it replaces the screennames on iChat with full names.
- jayrobinson83, on 11/12/2007, -2/+0Probably should change all your passwords after using this software from a shady anonymous particular individual.
- drspringfield, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I wrote this. I don't think I'm particularly shady.
- vbagate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I love this program. It is simply amazing! Works great with PPC and Intel
- oscbash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I thought that was going to be neat until I found out that most of my friends have no email or phone info in their Facebook profile. This results in a bunch of empty cards for my friends with nothing but a pic.
- lisafordeg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wonderful! Almost all people think so
- djjoelyd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0does anyone has a copy of the 1.2 version of facebooksync, now apparently u can't get hold of it anymore, i'm just desperate !!! cheers
- CanuckMakem, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Argh... can someone please get me this software????
- djjoelyd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I still have this app but it keeps crashing after i login. anyone else experiencing this? i have over 800 friends could that be why?
- flydaddyophus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I believe the program no longer works. It violated the Facebook Terms of Use agreement
- russ3, on 10/18/2007, -0/+1has facebook now throttled this app? i wanted it so bad, i did get the 2.0 version instead of the current 2.2, but that is because i hear 2.2 can't get phone numbers - useless
- jaredly, on 12/10/2007, -0/+2Bring it back, join this group to let facebook know you want this app back.
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=12328170170 - theundone, on 02/07/2008, -0/+1Does the older version still work? If so, where can I find it?
