- merreborn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Just a heads up for those who care: all the amazon links on that page are referal links, so if you click 'em, "tedsbatterpac-20" gets a cut of your sale.
- robbh66, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4This guy is Einstein because he made something that 5000 other people have already made and posted instructions on the web? Or are you referring to the urban myth that Einstein got his theories on relativity while seeing some patent application for the same thing?
- robbh66, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5What would be the point? You obviously already have access to a wall socket if there is a PS2 or 360 about.
- TheCookieMaker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5somebody has a lot of time and a lot of money. me I will just stick with the AC/USB adapter and the Cigarette lighter to Firewire adapter that I have.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Does anyone know if any of these works for the nano?

How about not wanting to spend an extra $30 on a charging brick for your ipod when you can just plug it into a ps2/xbox with a homemade usb adapter? - kevspace, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No handcranks? Pshhh. I want to look like an insane caveman on long train trips.
- toaste, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Speaking of that AC adapter, does anybody know exactly what magic the wall charger works for iPod firmware updates? I've noticed that 4G iPods and earlier aren't satiated by a usb connection if they are getting an update from Apple...
I have seen designs claim a need to "tri-state" the data pins of usb or firewire to mimic the charger. I'm uncertain if they meant to put them in a high impedance state (in which case, what was wrong with open circuiting them?) or what. The design included a virtual "ground" (hovering somewhere in the neighborhood of 2.5v) made with 2 47Kohm resisters and connected the data pins to this... - Balanced, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The point could be limited equipment, I guess. If I'm traveling, I try to pack light. If I travel with my Laptop, I expect to use it to charge my laptop, thus only taking one power brick for the two devices. Otherwise, my charger of choice right now would have to be a speaker station I got cheap. It's got a travel bag and is a pretty compact charger that is also great if I want to hear some tunes in the morning or before bed.
- OdinEye, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thank goodness for the Altoids Tin. I mean, what would people use to house their DIY projects without 'em?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Its called power over USB. USB 2.0 connections with enough amps flowing through them can charge ipods.
- cwoolf34, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3yes
- Balanced, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I dunno. The Zen Vision: M seems to be the exact same price as an iPod of the same capacity, although I'll admit the extra features are of dubious value. I have enough trouble getting an FM signal through my RadioShark, much less a tiny antenna stashed in an MP3 player.
The iPod is slightly lighter and does have some notable 'network effect' in that you are likely to find iPod compatible 'stuff' all over the place these days. And the iTMS, as well as some niceties like support for a few nice formats... - Balanced, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't think my iPod is imaginary. It gets pretty good battery life, although the screen backlight sucks down power. I think of chargers because I do travel with it, and don't want to run out.
- pacman122, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Is it possible to charge your iPod on a PS2 or xbox 360?
- drake111, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0apple also offers a triple a-> shuffle solution (i think it can be used with usb cord for other pods), but its $35 and not worth the money at all
the diy altoids tins are the way to go - evandrake, on 04/17/2008, -0/+0Don't forget the Solio Sun Charger, www.solarpoweredtech.com
- Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1lol, dugg down for saying there is a better product then the iPod
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2ok... which ones? all of them?
- gotadobo119, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0hmm.. can these DIY battery packs somehow reduce the battery life of an ipod? just wanna be safe before trying 'em out.. replacing a dead ipod is never cheap.
- tdkyo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1With such poor battery life, why do people still buy iPods? Get a REAL portable music player! Shop around! Geeze.
- pacman122, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Yeah but I have a 5G iPod and the charger is the USB cable. I'm not shelling out $20 when I already paid $500
- robbh66, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1oops.
- DigiDT, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3You could just get a Creative Zen which has more features, costs less and has a user-replacable battery pack. You could get an extra battery for it and still come out ahead.
- Celeron, on 10/12/2007, -12/+1I present you the next Einstein.
